off topic here, but has anyone made some decent replacment background planets? as far as i can tell lightspeed didnt in his 32bit pack
-
You mean...
Again, just say the word and I'll start doing some custom ones. I have some free time - any custom requests welcome.
-
WOW thats nice. How'd you do it?
-
"word" question is do they need to look like the original [V] one's?
-
The original :V: ones would be nice (like the lava planet and the one used for the planet in Deneb in the first mission) but more [better] planets would be nice too.

Hm...
I'd like you to make more. :) And make a semi-habittable desert world (desert with islands of shrubbery, some oceans of course...) and I'll take it. :)

Shhhh ;)
Seriously though, yeah, I wouldn't leech directly from Mr Martin, I wouldn't give him to much credit for them either (since it's only a technique, and anyone with Photoshop could discover it - he just happens to have written it down). But they did originate from his work. Damn impressive they are as well.

Hmmmmm.... Do I see the first few entries for 32Bit.vp? Once I get home, it's time to start Photoshop I see ;)
Flipside :D
-
I had a whole set of them...
The problem is, FS2 will not accept them, it just shows black space. (I tried with .TGAs)
-
also make sure they dont get that gay black edging when over layed on nebula nd things. ([V] originals sometimes do that and it looks very tacky)
-
yes, because they have 00FF00 = transparent, they do not alpha blend. Another problem with making good 32bit planets work. I dont know why but they don't even show up :(
-
hmm...
make a planet with visble urban areas and infrastructure ;)
that would be cool
-
Have you tried making the Planets as JPG's Lightspeed, it may be a problem with TGAs because of the alpha planes or the like?
Flipside :D
-
That is the coolest tutorial ever! I'm going to start making planets methinks :D

Make sure you are saving as a 24bit.
If you save as 32bit without setting up an alpha channel it will all be 0 alpha.
Green isnt used as transparrency in TGA, the alpha channel is.
All this was covered in the original thread.
If this doesnt solve your problems give me a shout.
