Can I get someone to point me in the right direction to a modeling tutorial for truespace 3.5??? Karajormas is good, I just don't really understand, and I am a complete noob at doing it.
-
Yeah the turreting tutorial was designed for someone with a little bit of experience with TS.
I did start writing a tutorial for the complete newbie to TS a few months back. The idea was to show how to build a mod from a cylinder into a fully working TS model (in this case a missile cause I wasn't feeling completely insane). It's very much a work in progress but if you want to take a look at it I've uploaded the basic version here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/missilemod.html) (it takes you as far as building the actual model but none of the converting stages are done.
If that isn't enough (and it probably won't be) the best TS resource I've found is Moonman's Resource Page (http://www.lunadude.com/rsrc_trueSpace.htm)

By all means follow tutorials, but I really can't stress enough the importance of just tinkering!
Make the mistakes, create a pink fighter that flies sideways into a warp hole, then work out how it all fits together! :D
-
I agree with Killfrenzy about tinkering :D But it's a good idea to get an idea of what the very basics are from a tutorial or two. Once you have that under your belt open up TS and a new scene and just play about with all the options until you have a rough idea what some of them do :D

Just don't over-use the sweep function! It's one of the most useful tools, but if it's not done right then it's obvious how you did it!:D
-
Alright I'll keep that in mind. Right now I'm just tinkering around making a few ships here and there, it's coming along pretty good.

Oppss. I use very little else :D Ocassional bevels but it's pretty much almost all sweep for my ships. What else can you use?

Well I have a model done, and it's in a scene. My only question is, how do you guys make a viewable image of it so I can post it here??? (It's not the greatest ship, all I did was mess around with it.) Also, whenever I try to use the 3d paint tool, it tells me there are already textures on there, yet there aren't. Can I get some help with that???
-
3D Paint = BAD! :D
To make a viewable image, get the ship into an orientation and position that shows it off, use the print screen button, paste it into your favourite image editing program, trim and preen, then upload it onto some webspace and link from the post. :)

I usually use the render command for that, but Killfrenzy's right otherwise. Print Screen is your friend
-
So printscreen puts it on my clipboard thingy so i can just paste it??? Ok, that helps. Thanks!!!
EDIT: Whoops, i still need it to be in something besides the wireframe, how do i change that?

you can change the display properties in the top-left corner. Or you can render the current window, also in the top-left corner. Either way will do the job.
