Tell us your favorite tricks and battlemanouvers you use in Halo!
Both single and multiplayer are welcome.
PC and Xbox as well. (The first is more relevant I guess).
If you wish you can even break it down to tactics for separate levels or difficulties, but personally I like high level stuff (Heroic and Legendary).

Running over hunters is often better than confronting them. ;7

splash damage is your friend, particularly in a scorpion tank... see a tight grouping of various covenant?... gone..;)
in "assault on the control room" if you're quick enough, you can get a banshee straight from the get go... try it sometime, just make sure you take out the pilots for the banshee first.
-
Grenades are you friend, use them well.

No, that would be Marathon: Durandal
Damn, I loved the Marathon series... I had hoped Halo would be more based on it, like it was originally planned, but apparently not.
-
Sniper rifle. Use it well.
Slap a plasma grenade to anyone dare approach, then pick off the ones still far away with the rifle.
Too bad you don't get it in some levels.
-
run, shoot use, grenades, hide then shoot some more work for me;) (Xbox version level legendary
-
Ok here it goes:
All the weapons are excelent when used against the apropiate foe in the right environment.
The pistol is a generally underrated weapon, whereas in open spaces it is your most lethal sniper weapon - the one and only mean to get rid of Jackals is you can't run over them.
Suprisingly this little sidearm is your next best thing to take down a Hunter with, when you're low on rockets.
The assault rifle is overrated, on higher difficulty it's almost useless against Elites and Jackals, because it takes too long to get down their shield.
It's usefullness is somewhat aproved in close quarter battles, especially against the flood.
The plasma pistol is a deadly tool, but it runs out of juice fast so use it only occasionaly if you have shielded targets or Sentinels on your track.
Ditch it for a plasma rifle - it has a better meele reach too.
BTW the infecters are good for your weapons' butt. Don't waster ammo if you don't have to.
The rifle is the ultimate flood killer - provided they don't flank you.
-
The shotgun is godly against Flood. But why shouldn't it? Shotguns > Zombies.
Actually it's good against everything, really... I just wish I could use fuel rod cannons in single player. Take that, hunter!
I'm not one for FPS, but the Halo storyline was entertaining enough to keep me playing. I especially liked the outdoor missions, and coop is a blast. I played some with Thorn on his Xbox.
-
Standard Rifle + Circle strafe: the ultimate word in every open space.
Strategic retreats + grenades: all you need against the floods

That is absolutely the smartest tactic. The game is very buggy. it crashes my PC every time I play on line. It drains your computer to the max without giving very much eye candy and still it crashes your computer. Forget that lame game. My computer is more important to me than some game converted from a console. No wonder it is so unstable.
-
It loves you too Razor.
As for tactics, don't run yourself over in your own Banshee... I didn't manage to do that somehow just now. :nervous:
-
*would rather play Homeworld 2 multi*

Nothing beats getting sqashed by your own scorpion battle tank.
Excesise catution when parking! You must assure the vechicle stays put....if my instructor knew....
-
does anyone know why the snipers rife is almost useless against the Flood ?
can't say I ever got run over by my own tank..
-
Because there are billions of flood and 12 shots in the sniper rifle..
-
Never EVER keep the AR unless you have nothing else, I re-iterate, the AR is the worst weapon ever.
Good weapon combo's are:
Shotgun + Pistol
Shotgun + Sniper
Spanker (rocket launcher) + Plasma Rifle
Pistol + Sniper
Plasma Pistol + Melee

The flood have no central nervous system so a headshot doesn't mean anything and the Sniper rounds are Armour piercing so they pass right through doing very little damage.

no no, I can have one guy dead centre, shoot, aaaaaaaaaand, nothin'.
A grunt would die, as would an Elite. A flood guy just stands there. They may be armour piercing, but it's still a huge f'koff bulliet isn't it ?
My favorite game is to try and get vehicles into unlikely places ( usually Warthogs)
I managed to get one into the centre of the island during "The Silent Cartographer" (not sure about the spelling there)

Like I said, the flood have no central nervous system and turn the host into mush, its like shooting a bag of **** basically. Sniper rounds pass through them, shotgun is where it's at.
-
I agree 100% with the shotgun bit. Once I get that, I never let go.
Even Hunters (almost) become Cannon Fodder.
BTW, downloaded some tools the other night. Halo's on my "other" PC, which lacks a modem, so I've try to try em' yet.
-
read the books... the sniper rifle travels so fast, it goes through the nonvital mass in the combat form, liquifying stuff... the only way to kill a flood is to put several holes in them, but the pistol only seems to need 1 or 2, but the sniper doesn't hurt something when it hits something nonvital... the point behind the shogun is it damages the bdy beyond use, and often pops the infection form inside... I always wanted to see a hunter turned into a flood... ;7

wtf? Do you know how quiclky an AR can take down another spartan with full health and armor at close range? Iv gotten so many kills by just emptying a the whole clip on some guy.
but still, nothin aint got nothin on deh pistol :D
-
no, NOTHING beats being outside sidewinder with a full sniper rifle... ;7
-
:wtf: :ick
snipers rarely grab many kills, its only really effective at non-moving targets and other snipers.
btw, i racked up 25 kills and 1 death after about 5 minuits(seriously) of pistol sniping on Hang em High ;)
-
Hey Turnsky, like the self-made emblem for your Mothership there ;)
Flipside :D
-
My fav multiplayer tactic: Going down with any and all guns a blazin'.
Fav campaign tactic: Assult Riffle + Pistol + Melee
-
Campaign tactic?
Grab whatever I have at my disposal.
I use tons of ammo.....
-
You know what sucks? The save point system. I never noticed it until this time, when there was this blasting through grunts, that was impossibly easy, but took about 5 minutes, and then there was the battle with two ghosts and a flying thingy, that I kept failing. And every damn time I had to spend another five minutes battling some damn grunts.
-
How can you not notice it? It says "Checkpoint" or something on the screen every time you hit a save point.
-
did you take the warthog?
-
hehe i just found this out :D
you grab a tank at Death Island and you park it under the base on the far right corner(when facing the base) against the clif wall. Then you stick the gun turret through the base floor and you have a clear defending position. When a enemy gets in the base and trys to steal the flag, just let that baby go boom... They will have NO idea what killed them.
Or if your feeling expecialy evil take this little bug on the offensive. Go under the enemy base and stick your turret into their base. If you get it right you will have a clear shot at anything on the base platform. I was doing this and i couldnt stop laughing; the blues would run to a hog and then id launch them into the aird. Theyd all be like WTF? and run around trying to figure out what was shotting at them :D
-
All I can say: stay offensive.
Even if you're being pummeled, you still have the initiative - and a chance for one of you to grab the flag.

ofc using "non convetional" tactics can thwart an all offensive team. Even taking a different rout to the flag and back can throw off defenders.
Also, If the oppsing team trys to constantly swarm you; it is usually unorganized and inefficient. Ex. at blood gultch, you get some of your team defending against the "swarm" (defenders always have the advatage) stick a warthog back behind the base for defence, set up pistol snipers in the enemys cliffs and your golden; as long as the stay unorganized youll probably be able to thwart their offence... Of this is usually terribly difficult to get to work right. (unless your in a clan match, or you have experienced, mature players in you game; wich are quite lacking in Halo multiplay)
but it works wonders; take it from a personal experience :D

This is official: Halo rocks.
I just finished it on Heroic, and it was quite a different walk compared to Normal.
No more smashing through the opposition.
I reccomend it to anyone who wish for a challenge.
Legendary though....it is as if your shield's but a last defence to keep you alive from stray bullets.
------------------------------------------
Couple of tips:
-When stroming map room take a look down the abyss.
The wall is sloping! With full shields you can jump and skid down on them avoiding a lot of hellish figthting - I did that part of the level under a minute!
It's easier sometimes to just brake throuhg and run for it, this is true for the later parts when you can just leave the Flood and the Covenant to battle it out themselves.
-
yeah, I'm on my first run through halo on Heroic. Man this is good. Aside from that one part where I was stuck for two days, because I didn't have a rocket launcher.
-
Just got the game. ;7
For good grades incidentally.
-
heres a tip: the plasma rifle is more effective then the AR againt all enemys (other then multiplayer, though its still good) except the hunters and wraiths...

unfortunatly, you cant do that on Legendary.
Btw heroic is to easy. Play it on Legendary
-
Hell if I'm going to play the Library on legendary. :doubt:
-
Library was FUN on legendary, about the only time I actually enjoyed that stupid level.
