Title: Multiplayer
Post by: Razor on November 11, 2003, 04:46:20 am
I don't know if this is just a common phenomenon, or a desease or it's just that people don't have any better things to do. What I am talking about is laming in internet gaming. Ok let's take the very popular Halo. I play the demo very often and there is no server without lamers. Most people on the same team take a couple of jeeps and both banshees, start camping at your spawn points and kill you once you jack back in (after the last kill) I can't even move for 2 meters without getting killed. This is really coward like nd i honestly hate it. I have also noticed that server owners do some really nasty stuff with this game. Once I had a rocket launcher, I fired 2 salvos at that guy...he didn't even die. I started shooting at him, emptied about 30 rounds and he was still there. I mean...are we talking about cheating or can this guy dodge bullets and have a powerfull enough shield to protect him from 2 direct hits with rockets? :wtf:

In Jedi Oucast CTF (Capture the flag) people mostly camp in their base with rocket launchers which makes it impossible to even come close to the flag. I mean OK a little bit of extreme play is OK..it makes it fun..but constant laming and *****ing in online games is absolutely impossible to tolerate. I heard stories about BF1942 and I can't dare to think what kind of cheats and lamings they have there.

What's your opinion on this issue?

Either you keep yepping about lamers and ect...or your try to find some people (clans, communities, ect.) with an elitist atitude or at least an honour/netiquete codex.

For example in MW4 IIRC they take it quite seriously.

Hopefully sooner or later even Halo will have it's own grown up community who will try to battle it out for challenge then the lowful experience of shooting someone in the back while they take a piss.

BTW Razor, Halo demo?

You were supposed to avoide that game like plague!

(...or if not stop *****ing the rest of us who finished it on legendary) ;)

:wtf:

Whos *****ing? I am just sayin ghow idiotic and immature it is to lame other people in on-line gaming. By the way...you will never find a lot of mature players on it so I guess the best option is to either join the clan or go to a server and play with the people you know well.

most games will have players invincible for 5-10 seconds so that spawn camping is minimized.  I play TFC (still) and there is often two ways outside a spawning room and they are guarded by invincible sentrys

Jedi outcast makes a shield around you when you respawn. It lasts for about 3 seconds. Halo on the other hand doesn't have the respawn anti campers shield. Well what did you expect from a Microsoft game? :doubt:

Now who voted the second option?

Halo is unbalanced, it's not spawn camping, the game tends to spawn you nearest the action which means you have to think fast, spawn campers are a piece of piss to kill anyway.

If you think they are easy to kill you are wrong because they are usually in a Banshee  or in a Warthoog on a gun while the other noob is driving him around so he could get a better aim. So tell me...how are you gonna take on a Banshee with a machine gun a pistol and two grenades ALONE when he has a plasma rifle and a torpedo that nukes you into next map with one shot?

I don't know about Halo spawn camping - but it certainly happens a fair bit in Battlefield 1942. I'm usually one of the ones to put aside whatever else I was doing and hunt the offending camper down. After the fifth or sixth time they realise that they aren't going to have the easy time of it that they thought they were - especially since they use the same tactics over and over (snipers on hills, vehicles on repair pads etc.) which I counter over and over again.

Eventually they get bored / Call me a cheater / Leave / Play Properly.

And everyone wonders how I come first in the match ;)

Tell me about it. You use the very similar tactic like I do. Once a guy lamed me last night. I absolutely killed him every time I met him. He said: You f****g cheater! Leave me alone and he just bailed from the server. Well OK i've been playing JK2 online for a year now so I have some extra experience :D
Some people even run from me or kill themselves once I am about to strike them down. Cowards! They just can't die like men. :p

Yeah, I mean it depends on your skill level I guess. Mostly I find myself killing more than I am killed - and when it comes to planes I think I've been accused of cheating around 7 times now. Trouble is, there are others times that I've been killed that just make you think "eh?" where it's really kinda suspect that you died...

Ah well. You win some, you lose some :)

You know you can reflect rockets back with Force Push, right?:wtf:

What Trashman said.

Camping with rockets in JO or JA is suicide if the server allows Force powers. Force push returns the rocket to sender. Force speed lets you side step the rocket. Force Rage lets you choose between sidestepping the rocket or just taking the hit and turning the sender to kibble. Force Protect will let you take the hit for minimal damage. Mindtrick SHOULD render you reasonably invisible to just sneak past them. Force Lightning should leave the rocket-gimps twitching and unable to fire. Force Grip can give you a nice shield (grab one rocketer and put him between you and the other. Run forward). Force pull will either yank them off their feet or yank the rocket launcher out of their hands (usually the former). Force Push can knock them down long enough for you to get in their face with your saber. You can sometimes dodge a missile with a rolling saber attack (running forward, crouch and tap attack) though that may leave you vulnerable to a second volley.

Gimps with weapons insignifigant next to the power of the Force. :D

That's really easy to say dude...but when you are pinned against 5 or more rocketers and have little force, it is almsot impossible to return them all back. In SP it's easy because there is usually one rocketer. And in MP I always win against a single rocket launcher noob.

About rage: I hate it when people use that forcepower. Noobs usually come in, turn rage on and stalk you untill you die. They either use guns or pull you to the ground and backstab you. Anyway when a rager comes in the best tactic is to push him untill his rage wears out. When it does he is most probably at 1 health..he is slower and attacks slowly and he can be killed in seconds. Unfortunately those who are left like that kill themselves and come in and rage again at you. Lamers!

Mind trick is always an awesome and deadly tool. :D I use level 3 which makes me invisible to all players on the map. Just one sneak and hes down without even knowing what hit em.

But what really takes the piss out of the dark side players is when you use absob. That totally pisses them off. They can trow any force at you: Lighting grip, push pull...you take their wasted energy and use their energy that you earned, against them. :D Uber cool power. I love it. Well that's why Yoda owned Dooku.

Yeah the new people taht come to the server usually accuse me of cheating too. I usually tell them: "Yes I cheat! So what you gonna do about it?" And then he shuted up for the rest of the game. I tell the same to people who call me an absorb and mind trick lamer.

Welcome to the club mate. If there's something I hate it is those spawn campers. Surely it's a great way to win the game but it must get boring after a while.. where's the fun in that (we do it to the bots in LAN games time to times, so I do know how it feels like). Oh the joy when one get's behind a spawn camper and slices the bastard with a knife :D

Doesn't matter at all to me. I generally will not lame (if I know the etiquette for the game) because I prefer a challenge. However since laming is usually possible through the developers' lack of balancing, if people lame that's too bad, it's part of the game. You can't seriously expect all players to abide by certain pseudo-rules (as in, not built into the game) just 'cause a group of players don't like certain elements of gameplay.

True, although actually DiCE (makers of BF1942) included a "kick player" vote system where any player can initiate a "kick player" poll. If enough people vote on it then it gets passed and the player is kicked. Trouble is, hardly anyone knows the commands or bothers to vote.
