Title: Multi Monitor/TV... DVD Player Software...Argh.
Post by: Fineus on November 11, 2003, 12:39:30 pm
Hey all, does anyone know of software that might enable me to do the following:

I want to be able to play DVDs on a Television via my GF4s image out system (so the DVD drive is on the PC and plays out through the card to the TV) Meanwhile I'm able to use applications on my monitor.

As it is I can only watch DVDs on the monitor or the TV but not use the other at the same time.

So - anyone know how I might go about this? Or if I've just not got it set up right?

I don't really think that is possible Thunder because the TV shows what you see on your monitor. Hm....maybe if you get a card like the one I have (Radeon 9000 pro vivo) you may be able to connect two monitors or a monitor and a TV. Do you have a DVI connector on your card?

You see this pic?

That blue connector is for ordinary Monitor (doh)
The one in the middle is VIVO
the white one is DVI (gives best quality to LCD monitors)

I think you need to have multiple desktops set up with your Video Card, so that things displayed are on one or the other. nVidia, and ATI support this, though, so you're in luck. :)

By the way which GF4 do you have?

MSI GeForce4 4600 Ti... it does have VIVO and DVI. The arrangement is currently that the monitor is plugged into the monitor output socket, and the TV is plugged into the VCR, which is in turn plugged into the VIVO socket via an adapter packaged with the graphics card.

this sounds similar to the setup I had (untill the VCR died oddly)

I just drag windows media player into the monitor I want it to play in and full screen it

what (software) are you useing to play the DVD?

(realy quite funny thing is, for a few months I was watching TV on my computer on my TV, given that I have a TV in card and I always watched it on the TV wich was bigger than my monitor and there was no noteable quality loss)

The latest versions of the nVidia graphics drivers come with a little tool called nView which can do the task you want. You can add the TV as a second monitor, extend you desktop on to it and then drag the media player onto the TV.

TV-tool is a hot tip if the card doesn't like you. I have a gf3, and nview didn't want to find the tv. tvtool did, tho.
