not sure if there's already a thread on this, but if not (and anyway):
I can't sign in, and I'm a little reluctant to actually add stuff that I might know (even if it's very little) if it means I have to give out my IP all the time. I saw those other guys had their usernames, but when I try to sign in, it says something about bad password. how do
I go about making meself a signin?
-
I don't think you need to sign in. Just press EDIT and do your thing!

yeah, but that reveals my IP adress everytime.
just use your eyes and try to grasp what I wrote in the first post, pal.

OK, see if this helps...
You need to sign in using some sort of WikiWord.
This page has some information concerning the formation of a valid WikiWord... http://www.virtualmock.org/wiki/index.php/SigningIn
So, make a valid WikiWord and use that to sign in. I guess 'SignIn' is a valid WikiWord.
-
ahh... I see. the burdens of a man with a nick in non-caps...
-
Meh - I was able to sign in just using "Sandwich".

yeah, but your nick starts with a capital letter. could be why.
edit: I'm tired, it seems.
-
I wasn't able to sign in with either Goober5000 or Goober.
-
Also, you guys know that you can make test pages until you're sore in the fingers in the SandBox (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/fsdoc/index.php/SandBox). ;)

yeah, but I couldn't try hierarchic pages in the sandbox, could I? There was reason behind my testing, you know.

wiki? :wtf:
Are we talking of the frontapge?
-
I added stuff to the species and ships pages. This thing is as buggy as hell.
-
I'd just use the forum myself. Going to Wiki is IMO needlessly complicated.
-
Works for me, whatever the hell it is...

What problems are you experiencing?

I see what you mean. What did you try to do?
KT: See the announcement.

Gah, I completely forgot that I was messing with something last night, trying to allow usernames like Goober5000. The problem is fixed now. Sorry guys. :p
-
two things:
how do you register?
put up a sticky, i always, always miss anouncements. or pop up a box or something.
-
Could you enable the strikeout tag in the Wiki?
The strikeout tag does this
-
just comment it out like this
/* this is a comment */
or soemthign.

no we're talking about "Wiki", the new installment at HLP. *see announcement*
it's pretty cool :)

Registration is easy. Just come up with a username that matches a WikiWord (2 capitalized words combined, like KasPerl or SirKasperl or something - try to stick with something similar to your forum username, please), and sign-in with it. That should be it.
And the announcement was under my user, ginormous avatar and all, until certain people complained that it super-sized the page. Hmm, I think I'll give Announcements an avatar. :)
-
aha, so on first logging in, it registers. good.

No, I need the strikeout tag for my Amun description to look right.
-
woolie, i just edited your list of FS1 ships, it was kinda messed up lay-out wise.
-
Thanks.

Okay. I've put a small(ish) chunk of my FREDding guide up. I'm not as happy with the way it looks as I am with HTML but it was fairly painless to make the changes (much easier than adding stuff to the HLP FAQ) so I'll probably be adding the whole thing if this thing gets past beta (i.e if everyone starts using it).
-
well, I support it. too bad I don't have any knowledge :(
-
This thing is weird...and the inability to use HTML is somewhat ghey IMO.
-
There's this thing called security...

Thanks kara - and everyone else who's submitted content, rearranged stuff, whatever. You're making this work. :)
How will you be able to tell when "everyone" starts using it? ;)

hmm... I think we need a naming convention for "freespace" and "freespace 2".
If you write it like FreeSpace, it'll turn out like "Free Space"
If you write FreeSpace 2, it'll not parse the 2, so it'll be "Free Space"
however, if you write [Freespace], it'll be Freespace, and if you write [Freespace 2], it'll be "Freespace 2".
I say we go with the brackets thingies.
-
well, I've figured enough out that I no longer need them. I was being retarded and not looking at the little wiki formatting guide
one HTML thing that would be nice however are anchors. I know we can make a separate page, but anchors are just nice sometimes.

That sounds like a good convention. Brackets it is.
-
Yes, brackets are good. Besides, "Freespace" never was capitalized in mid-word officially.... that I know of, at least. :nervous:

:doubt:
[q]References: JoinCapitalizedWords or use square brackets for a [page link] or URL [http://cool.wiki.int/][/q]
What's wrong with the square brackets thing?
-
nothing. I just think people should use it *cough*topace*cough*
-
Fixed the problem some people had with WikiWord usernames - now the system allows both WikiWords and words that begin with a capital letter, have one or more lower-case letters, and end with (a) number(s) - such as Goober5000. :)

but it still wasn't two words.
-
Filled in the mission chatter section. I'd also like to strongly suggest people keep a copy of their work on their HD. This looks like a very open system and, while I doubt any of our members would do it, it wouldn;t take much for some twelve year old EVandal to come on and delete everything we've done. Call me paranoid, but, well, yeah. Just call me paranoid.

Yes, but it was capitalised mid-word. Which is the point. What are you talking about? :)
BW, I think there's a rollback system to enable the return from such mistakes, isn't there?
-
Err - I have no idea. It's possible I suppose...
-
Yes, there's a roll-back system, no worries there.
And Setekh.... you just couldn't resist, could you? :p
