Just letting everyone know that Swooh's working again, and the ISP seems to be faster than ever now...
hopefully this problem won't happen again (well, for as long a time anyway ;) ). sorry for the hastle though.
-
Yeesh, if that's supposed to be faster than ever...
-
I was gonna say, it's slower than a sleepy hutt right about now...
-

1.6 MBPS not fast enough for you?
EDIT: OK i see, it is moving pretty slow at the moment. well earlier today it was super-fast :D

On that note, anyone who wanted a PEON account, please do it very soon, because we're thinking about not taking any more applications within the next few days
-
Important information - stuck for the time being :)
-
Swooh's HTTP server is currently offline, because of some of the bandwidth problems we've been having... the unnecessary bandwidth problems. it'll probably be back up within 24 hours, after we all discuss what we're going to do, and delete a few accounts that are abusing it.

we're discussing it. stay tuned
-
Guys, cut it. For my sake. Here, I'll even help you.

I'm not allowed to not laugh now?
And regardless of my personal bias, it IS funny.

A fitting punishment for incurring the disfavor of Stryke.
And that for minor things- see to it that you do not annoy me more than he has, little ones. Those freak UPS-related accidents are pretty nasty.
-
Hold on a sec... I don't mean to pick holes but the last time anyone posted a thread about Swooh's status it got locked, not stickied
-
There was probably a conviencing reason why it was reather closer than stuck. Whatever happened in that thread, it achieved its goal: It notified everyone that the page is online again.
-
last thread (the one that got locked) was some PEON commenting that he couldn't access Swooh. since this thread is legit and is posted by me, and contains informaiton everyone hosted at swooh should know, it gets stickied... same as the last thread i posted on swooh.
-
Hmm, when I log in through FTP, is there a default remote site folder I should be aiming for? Because right now, I can't get in.(Using WS_FTP LE)
-
no, it defaults to your home folder... (/peon/*whatever*)
send me a PM with your username and password and we'll work this out :)
-
Funny thing is, I haven't been able to log on to swooh ftp for long time now.
It just repeats
Status: Connecting to swooh.com ...
Status: Connected with swooh.com. Waiting for welcome message...
Error: Timeout detected!
Error: Unable to connect
At first I thought it is because some time ago Stealth wanted everyone to post or give him PM or otherwise the account will be deleted, well sending the required info to his PM didn't make any difference. It's been like this at least for a month now.

worked for me yesterday.

well a lot of people had been having that problem since about 2 weeks ago... it should work for you now... doesn't it?
-
No it doesn't work.

Stealthy, baby.
Why in gods name are you even running Swooh?
It's not like you're getting anything out of it (except the hassle of trying to keep it running), and a T1 is pretty damn expensive.

we're not running T1, we're running on Fiber. we were thinking of getting T1 though, but for now Fiber's faster.
Swooh started as a personal server, but with a lot of the members of the community desperate for a place to host images/files/webpages/etc. i decided to buy what was necessary to upgrade Swooh to host outside accounts.
We've had a few problems now and then, but not major ones... Swooh's been down a day or two over the past few months, and this problem we've had is the largest to date, and even that wasn't too big of a deal, since files could still be viewed or downloaded, just users couldn't log in through FTP.
Why are we doing this when we're getting nothing out of it? Because not everyone does something to profit from it. We haven't made a cent on Swooh, and we don't intend to, we're offering our services and our money to keep Swooh running for the benefit and welfare of the community. many people rely on Swooh, and while we don't profit from them, we're more than willing to let them profit from us. We don't get, and don't intend to get anything back from them. it's a service, a free service, of the goodness and kindness of our hearts :)
True, Swooh's been down once or twice during the last few months, but that's to be expected, and i'll tell you why. We host 150+ "100 MB" accounts, and 20+ "1 GB" accounts. it's hard to monitor everything these people do, and it's happened (most of the times Swooh goes down is becuase of the ISP... Swooh is running Linux and it's system has never given us any problems to date... always ISP problems) now occasionally someone will host a 50 MB popular file/game/movie, and then link to it on a popular site... this means that we get thousands of hits to that file per hour, and obviously we're going to eat up all our bandwidth. people do take advantage of Swooh every now and then like that, but we're still willing to keep it running to help the community out. you think of the 5 or 6 people that complain about the "poor service" but you overlook the 170 or so that are more than happy with it.
