I pulled the Alecto along with a few other, similar looking ships from the ModelDump Raven released not long ago. Ultimately, I want to give them all similar texture jobs and release the models as a small fighter kit for anyone who wants to lod/pof them.
The Alecto I see as a Superiority fighter. It's got six gun points ala myrmidon, but doesn't seem to have the bulk to be a heavy assault ship. The design also has traces of Apollo in it, which I'm sure influencess what I see :)
FYI, the other ships I pulled were the Chiron (Interceptor) and the Icarus (Heavy Assault) But I have no idea when textures for those will turn up. Say sometime after next week and before the apocalypse.
For this particular texture, I'd like some feedback, and suggestions as well. The Alecto will be the basis for the other two ships, so any suggestions here will be carried over, and hopefully make all future ships I texture that much better. And that's gotta be good, right?

yeah the alecto does have that apollo look.

Looks like there's some poly or texture problems around the secondary banks. The texture doesn't flow properly from the square bit above the wing guns.
The texture itself is servicable, if a bit plain.

I think that may be the lighting, which tends to be harsh in Deep Exploration. As for the plainness, got any suggestions? I've tried writing and it looked out of place, and mech elements really don;t work either (It doesn;t help that I'm crap at drawing them I'm sure).

The map isn't bad. I concur that it is a bit plain, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with some darker patches and some running lights. Look at the Herc though if you're worried about blandness. It's got nothing on your detail.

That fighter still reminds me of the apollo and the myrmidon...freaky

Not too shabby. But yeah, look at some of the FS1 Terrans for ideas on how to spice up an otherwise dull metal plate. Stickers, stripes, panels, and some paint on the ends of engines and weapon hardpoints can do wonders.
I'd recommend banding those guns, though, as they're currently very plain. I'd suggest you shorten them to about 40% off their current length, but you said you can't model at all, so...

How many? I am kind of busy ATM, both with RL and TI stuff, but I'm also looking to improve my texturing, so a chance to practice on different styles'd be useful.

well textures are a bit low detailed but you are undoubtely getting better try after try...:)

Am I the only one that likes the textures.:nervous:
A few plating lines here and there, and some more at the detail at the secondary banks wouldn't hurt. Otherwise:yes:

It looks like an earleir version of the appolo, or a retrofit upgrade of the Loki :)

the textures remind me of Tie Fighter (the game not the ship) for some reason. I like the fighter. :nod:
