Hi,
Last posted here a long long time ago (or feels like it now) and i'm getting back into modding and campaign scripting.
Now knowing my luck I'm posting this in the wrong forum (as i said its been a while so I'll appologise now)
Early in the source code project there was a simple exe that did one thing. and that was allow for larger ship.tbl files. - Im just wondering if theres any still about (without any silly messages in game which change colour - which i remember one had). Mainly as i want to try to keep what FS2 was in a campaign i want to work on (well restart on..)
I've had a look at the source code project open exe and to be honest it looks a bit confiussing - all these new features.
Where all i want to do exe wise is have a larger ship.tbl file.
So could anyone point me in the direction of one please.

I believe you want on of DTP's builds. I don't think I still have one but someone may do.

I can't say I've seen one of those, but the current build is pretty good. The new features can be turned on and off fairly easily, and the new sexps and other fred features are well worth it. I'd say just spend a few days getting used to the new stuff and use that. :) You can always just ignore the new features if you don't want to use 'em. :)

Phreak's old Inferno EXE upped the limits from 130 --> 250 IIRC. Try looking in his sig.

Pyro does raise a good point and the fact is that most people will be playing your campaign with one of the FS2_open exe's which doesn't actually have any raised limits.
There are two limits on the ships tables that AFAIK are still present in FS2_open.
1) You can't have more than 130 ships or multiplayer breaks.
2) You can't have a ships.tbl larger than 380k or FS2 crashes.
If number 2 is the problem then you might want to try this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/ships.zip) reduced size ships.tbl.
If that still isn't enough or it is the first one which is the problem there are plenty of ships that you probably don't need in your campaign which can be removed.
The other option is to try Phreaks exe as Goober said but the problem with that is that you also force all the players of your campaign to use it too.

and try as I might my ship tables and weapons are around 640k each...
I have entered around 190 ships in game and they all work :)
I now know my 2 main problems,A) ships that need lods!!! and also B) FRED lines of death so they need to be subobjected..
write to me at [email protected] and I will send you the FS2 exe and Fred EXE's I currently use for the raised limits
I think it's dtp BULID 3.1 OR 3.2

SD have you tried any of these models with the HT&L code. They should work well with that.

Thanks - actually that ships.tbl file was definlty worth a look at - looks like an exe wasnt needed. - I never realised that taking out the tabs would save that much space.
I dont suppose anyone knows of a weapons guide (i want to make some beam cannons but as i lost all the old stuff to do with this campaign mod and because its been that long i cant remember how to do it :s)

That part's not actually mine. GE made the tabling section but it is wonderful and I use it whenever I have to do any tabling myself. :D

Once the exe's changed titles to FS_OPEN SouRCE 3.3, 3.4, 3.5 ect..
and changed how they work (I could NEVER do more than run the original game) I gave up on the new stuff and just shuffle along with this old build (kicks dirt)...
I tried asking for help or at least an explaniation as what they were talking about (as the webshot wasn't very clear, adn the terms link "COMMAND LINE" not explained") I am NOT a coder!!! I just love to play sims...
that was like last summer I asked for help with FS open, but to tell you the truth I am perfectlt happy with 3.1/3.2...
AND TO HELL WITH BREAKING MULTI-PLAYER! Give me MORE ships dammit! ;)

I sure hope so. - Had some work on 'another' computer game to do (beta testing and some other stuff) but I've got some time now to do more FS2 stuff.

OKay great - Thanks guys.
Been able now to add a third fenris variant, COnquest (all shall become clear)
a few models from elsewhere
5 new beams
1 new laser (up to now)
and a few new missiles.
as well as four completed missions for a direct post-capella campaign.

No kidding, I completely empathise - and you couldn't be more right saying it's great to be back, I returned only a couple of months ago myself. :)

Of course i remember, I think you left just before i did.
I've been reading up here between doing some old-style FS2 missions for a campaign. I cant belive its been over a year since i was 'ere last.
I've been over at the X2 the threat forums. Kinda got involved in that.
But now hopefully i'll be able to finish off a campaign here now.
Just trying to sort out a crashing in a mission. May be back sooner than i thoguht.
