Well folks, I've come to the conlusion that there's little to keep me here, so I hereby tender my resignation.
I may still pop in once in a while to check on the SCP, but other than that, I'll not be here.
Goodbye all, it's been a pleasant (however long it's been).
(Clearly I'll still be here for the next day or two to check on this thread)
-
Well... okay. Thanks for the company, you've been good to kick around. :) We'll miss you.
Bye now!
-
Gonna miss you man! God bless.
-
I applaud your taste, if not your chosen mode of exit. Me, I say make it a drama or make it quiet.
-
What's not to keep you here? :wtf:
-
uhhh your leaving? in the sence i dont have time to peek in just another forum and post a few things....... lol i think hes just spamming
-
You're leaving? Any particular reason (Well, more descriptive reasons?)
And id this just HLP, or the FS community in general?
-
Because here is boring. Like I told y'all months ago. Same reason I only swing by here about a week outta every two months now. That's about enough time for a week's worth of content to have developed. About half of the Hard Light forum is basically just people emoting randomly and making dumb comments nobody would ever want to read about someone or other's posts anyway.
Honestly, if you people put ten seconds of thought into every post, people'd stick around and this'd be a place worth sticking around in. As is, the campaigns are mostly going nowhere, models have slowed because everyone's modeling solely for their "UBAR SECRET SPECHUL CAPAIUN PROJET" that's going to replace Derelict as the offhand definition of a great user project, and the SCP is off in its own little world, getting stuff done but mostly fixating on little things that specific campaigns want rather than the grand sweeping stuff that'd really be of interest to anybody. There's larger things going on, sure, but they're not nearly enough to stick around for most of the time, and they progress slower'n a turtle with no legs. Add that to everyone treating the forums like their personal ****ing blog and the fact that evidence shows that basically nobody here lives a life interesting enough to make for good bloggy entertainment, with the possible exception of an0n who makes half of that up anyway and me whose life, while it involves hitting things and screaming, gets pretty repetitive and isn't for public consumption, and you've got not a lot to stick around for.

your're the one still here after 2 years, cource is gonna get boring.
-
Petrarch, not sure myself while you'd like to "leave", but I respect your decision. Don't forget to pop round. :)
-
Sad to see people going, especially the older members. Even though I'm pretty new to HLP, this place feels like home already :)
-
well, if you ever decide to come back...
:welcome: :D
bye...
-
a pity that you've come to this desicion, i still feel there is enough to stick around for, even if it was just the mood of the community. are you still sticking on sectorgame, or leaving that too?
-
*just realised the VBB is gone*
Wow, and it only took....what?; 10 months?; to sink in.
And in regards to Stryke's comments, I tend to agree.
I used to read every thread, make a post in them all, check every forum, chat and/or flame everyone. Now all I do is scour the threads in here and Art and check out anything with an interesting thread title.
But I'm a lifer. I've said it before and I'll say it again; I'll be here even after they turn out the lights.
-
Take care Petrarch, pop back from time to time if you ever get the chance :)
-
See you petrarch, I understand your decision.
-
It's been an honour and privilege, sir
-
have a good time

agreed
-
God speed Pertach!
Have a nice time... And do pop around!
-
agreed with Ashrak and an0n.
And an0n on his second point. I haven't checked General Freespace in months. And I'm looking at the SCP only based on the highlights.
Which reminds me to go and declare a mortuary on LM
-
Good luck Petrach. Hope u find something more interesting to do ;)
-
fare thee well Pet.. stop by to visit sometime..:)
-
You don`t know me but I was on the vbb by a different name when you were there.
You said you are keeping taps on the SCP, good, who knows maybe someday it will spure that akin for freespace2 once again and bring you back with re-newed interest..
So for now anyway, I guess its goodbye and take care, but I hope and pray you have a good life, and watch these forums.

Bye- hope to see you back tho!
-
See ya, man. Stop in every once in a while so I can have someone to flame/abuse/spam on. :D
-
We shall all miss you keeping the community alive in your self-proclaimed 'annoying manner' ;)
Don''t be too much of a stranger and watch out for those Mooses or Meese or whatever they are :D
Flipside :D
-
Shouldn't the Goodbye-Beam be red?
-
The reason it's boring right now is because they're working on bug squashing in the SCP instead of adding new features. It's not real exciting, but it has to be done. Just wait until this build is out, then they'll be doing all the exciting stuff again:)
-
Yes, but the question remains; What then?
As long as the SCP keeps adding new features and doing new stuff, no-one can use it. Who's going to start a campaign with FSO when, by the time they've finished making a ship to utilise all the new stuff, a whole new list of features has been implemented?
All it's good for while they're still adding stuff (which they will forever be doing) is showing off.
-
L8er Petrarch!
*salutes*
-
That's not true, the SCP has sorted out a lot of the limitations of the engine as well as adding some graphical tweaks.
I for one am glad that we now have fighter beams for example, and the HT&L option is looking very juicy. For myself, the SCP is just another way of modding FS2.
To Petrarch: Farewell, and do pop back ever so often to moan at people and what have you. I myself will be here until the server burns out, or something like that. I'll be mucking about with FS2 for as long as I am physically able to! :D
-
an0n: Well, I[ will, for one. Already am, though I still hate all that gunpoint and heirarchy **** necessary to actually take advantage of the new features (i.e. anything at all to do with modding except table editing and modeling, ever). It's handy, and people are using it, it's just not pants-cackingly exciting stuff that's getting done. Glowmaps? Pretty fancy. HT&L? That's cool. Some of the more advanced SexPs? I'm sold. But those are few and far between, and generally pretty damn buggy, because most people are still working on things like (at a glance) making subspace textures procedurals- something that's of incredibly limited use, and is really just fixing something that ain't broke enough to be a priority in the first place.
It is making a lot more progress than anything else, which is why everyone still follows it even if they don't really anything else, but it's not enough in and of itself.
Hitman: I've been on HOTU for at least three. What's your point?
-
Well mate... um... whatever I'll hassle u on msn if I get bored. :p
-
Lack of activity isn't a SCP fault, or, I think, a lack of interest problem. It's really us FREDders that are causing it. The few of us that are still around just don't seem to be as quick any more. Maybe it's because modding's become more common - back in the day, nobody could mod, so people FREDded their dreams into place. Now that people can mod, well, hye're concentrating on that, and the missions to use those mods simply aren't happening as fast. After all, lack of missions does directly correlate to lack of new campaigns.
-
well, good bye and I hope to see ya here sometimes :)

Good boy.
*pats Odyssey*
Now we've got a nice green Collosus welcome, and a nice red Sathanas goodbye.
-

Bai bai!
-
See ya later.
Kinda agree, to a point.
Other than testing my FRED missions, haven't played FS2 for ages now.

That is deep....And can be interpreted in more than one way...
-
Well, as I see it, everything becomes one at some point, and I guess I'll see ya there. Lader man.
Get in touch with me sometime, if nothing else just to shoot the breeze...

That's quite insightful. Modding is very widespread these days... but the mods are hardly used as much because of the new mission/mod ratio. Maybe it's time to start another trend. :)

Rendering? :nervous:
-
Salute!!
Later dude!
Rendering?
Possibly.
Reminds me that I need to pick a prog and learn it, besides a rudimentary understanding of Blender.
-
Cya later :/
-
Later man. Its a shame to see people leaving HLP and stuff. Personally, I think the past couple of months have been very active and such, but your choice.
Drop by every once in a while..
-
Adios dude. We'll miss ya. :(
-
you don't have to leave Petrarch  ;)
I mean, the community is dying, but i'm sticking around :D
-
its to bad i never got to join the FS community until recently when i loved the game since it came out. Oh well, im definently a lifer, and when HLP goes down ( god forbid ) Hades - Combine will always be left. I plan on keepin it runnin for as long as humanly possible.
Bye, and good luck.

He says, right in the middle of the period in which we must have had the biggest newbie influx since the fall of the VBB, after the SCP have brought graphical standards up beyone many modern games, and Gamespy is spitting distance from hosting the entire FS2 game on fileplanet.
We're seeing more activity than in a long time...

i admit, we have a little increase in activity, but does that mean the community's growing? not really... it's still dying, just a little less slowly ;) the only thing that can stop it, (and it's the truth, so don't get offensive) is if something DRASTIC happens, PUBLICLY... like if Freespace 3 or Freespace 2 EXP is released. otherwise, there's nothing that we can do to make Freesapce a popular game, thereby making the community larger. the community may be small, but it is strong, thats what matters

We have at least two new registrations per day druing the week, and four or five per day during weekends, if anyone's interested. It would seem that the number of people leaving is a lot smaller than that of new users registering.
