Title: help for newbie
Post by: Triple Ace on November 15, 2003, 09:36:54 pm
First off let me say I'm new and I love some of the work done with the SCP and some of the campaigns. 2nd I want to report an annyoying bug with the SCP on most versions, when I get into a battle the game crashes to the desktop with no error, my specs are, 1.6 Athlon processor, 384 ddr ram, and a 32 meg S3 Prosavage ddr video card. My card does not have drivers for opengl 1.2 or higher.

I'm not an authority on this subject in any way, shape or form, but you may wish to include what OS you're running.  That may help those who do know what's going on to help you.

Just a thought. :)

What mission?  What battle?  What are you doing when it crashes?  How often does it crash?  What else are you running at the same time?

We often need much more information. :)

I bow down to Goober5000's superior wisdom...

(Blast!  Where's that smily when you need it...)

Geez folks, where are our manners?

Gunnery Control, target Triple Ace.  Fire!
:welcome:
Exits are to the sides and rear, emergency flamethrowers can be found under the seats.  And if you run into a large 5-limbed creature while wandering around in the air ducts, give it your lunch.  Hopefully it's just Carl, and he'll leave you be.

A basic troubleshooting tip is to create a new pilot before using a new version of FSOpen.  Otherwise, we at least need to know what version of FS_Open you are using, as well as all the info that has been indicated by Goober and kv1at3485.

Welcome to HLP, Triple Ace. :) Any command line options? You can fly normal missions without battle fine? More details would help immensely. ;)

:welcome:

Well thanks for that warm welcome. My os is winxp, I am using the latest build, It does this on every mission, and it runs fine until the shooting starts. I am using the -htl command which I have to use to run it at all.

Okay. That's a bad sign. You shouldn't have to use the -htl switch unless you've actually got some HT&L models.

Have you tried 3.5.5? That should be more stable.

I think non-ht&l missions were broken in the -t builds though, so it's not any problem with his system.  And HT&L really makes the game run much faster with all of the visual stuff, so I don't think you should need models requiring it to run it.

htl is not finished and still has a lot of bugs.
If fs2_open will not run without htl then thats a bug.
If fs2_open just runs very slowly without htl try using OGL, its faster.

I get a similar problem. Sometimes, like, when I first fire my weapon (;7 ) the game almost gets laggy. If there is a lot going on, I usually get lag, then dumped to desktop with no error message or anything.

Windows ME
1ghz athlon
256 memory
TNT2
3.5.5 "open_r" and "open_e" builds and the HT&L build.

Heh, don't bother with the "Me" bashing, I know already.
(switch to new PC soon woohoo!)

My problem with 3.5.5 is the lighting on ships is screwed up, as for other builds I have the same problems. Its either crashing or the lighting is messed up. As for opengl I can't use it, my video card drivers have opengl 1.1. I have the latest drivers too.

Many people experience that (like me). If you are using HT&L, that is probably the reason, though it is a bigger bug that you can't run it without HT&L.

Just got it working without htl but now the lighting is messed up on the ships. If I can I will get a screenshot.
