Title: 2) orum suggestions.
Post by: Unknown Target on November 19, 2003, 09:49:37 am
Just a few suggestions:

1) Allow political debates and wider topic ranges. Take a peek at the Relic Board's GD: forums.relicnews.com

2) Spruce up the main color scheme. I know you guys just redid them, but it's kind of depressing with all dark black and red and stuff. Some respite from the blackness would be appreciated.

And that's all I can think of right now.

I like the red and black. 'Tis Shivan. And it matches the HLP logo. And those are my two favourite colours.

So, err, nyah :p

I usually don't visit a forum with a bright theme twice. don't really know why, tho.

The red and black is fine as it is. An OT forum would be a good idea though, for politcal and religious flame fights. Every other forum in the world has one. HLP doesn't, then wonders why we bring our arguments in here.

isn't this the OT forum?
Title: 2) orum suggestions.
Post by: diamondgeezer on November 19, 2003, 11:02:42 am
No, I mean as in a forum where OT threads don;t get locked unless they get properly offensive. Simply arguing the same point for 20 pages wouldn't warrant a lock.

Why the hell not? You have a forum where people can rant and rave to their heart's content, and they don't do it elsewhere on the board.

[q]The core of the HL forums, home to the latest in news and discussion about anything and everything. Now converted by Shrike to a 24-hour nightclub.[/q]Now so long as you don't start flaming that means, well, pretty much anything and everything.

Thus we're not opening another OT forum because you're sitting in it. :p

Y'know for a 24 hour nightclub there's not a lot of atmosphere. Or beer. Or women.

In fact, it's barely a nightclub at all.

In light of these requests, I will concede partly, in removing my pants.

But that is as far as I go.

Perverts.

I'd remove my pants but I'm wearing a skirt and going Scottish at that.

I must get into the VIP area.

Also, I believe you're only as perverted as the person you're spanking.

*reads thread*

You guys were saying something about OT discussions?

Besides, one of the main reasons why HLP is a nice and friendly (if slightly insane) place - even for newbies - is because we don't allow things to get out of hand.

Face it - no other board has anywhere near our level of activity per member per thread per whatever. Huge boards with tons of "freedom" are usually inhabited by 4 gazillion newbs who gome, post 3.5 times, and leave, with no desire to ever step foot there again, and by a few dozen monster posters who enjoy the 1337-ness of their huge postcounts.

And heavily moderated boards tend to remain just that - heavily moderated. People come, get their answers, and go, to return in a few months with another question. Aside from such activity, those boards are as dead as a graveyard - there's no community feeling at all.

HLP, meanwhile... ;) I like HLP. Yes, I do. :D

No kidding. Even with all the inactive members we have (quite a few), we're up around 238 posts per member. The other main forum I frequent is Christian Guitar Resources ("http://www.christianguitar.org"), and though they're huge (close to 40k members), each member has one tenth the posts that ours do. Our activity owns.
