Title: My first render/rendered movie
Post by: Corhellion on November 20, 2003, 11:14:05 pm
Well, I got me a new toy to play with!

It's called Cinema 4D, and it's incredible!

I'd get a screenshot up to show you, but I don't have any rendered...yet...I'm currently rendering a short (170 frames) movie. It'll take an hour and a half to fully render...and will probably be a huge file...probably because I used Radiosity...meh It'll look good when I'm finished!

I'll post a link and a few renders later on...maybe tomorrow...it's late...

Mmm, C4D.

Hey, you know, that's almost as cool as MAX 6, BABY! Whoooo!

...

Which actually doesn't do much more than MAX 5, yeah. And they got rid of the tab panel, those bastards...

I don't know. I think it has something to do with the "Now with EVIL!" label on the side of the new box, though. They claim it's to free up space, though since it was never on as a default anyway, just available, that's kinda lame.

Oy, everything here is trying to sell me something else- I like how every last plugin they include with MAX, including the crippled demos, requires like four squintillion dollars in models in some proprietary format to really do anything nice, in addition to the full version of the plugin. At least the free third-party plugs should be around soon.

They do have some cool tricks in the new version, though, none of which I've really used yet (seeing as I'm still flailing like a spastic gibbon at Reactor- HOW THE **** IS THE CLOTH THING SUPPOSED TO WORK??? And why does it not take bloody hours to process for everyone else?), and most of which basically fix up things that sucked in earlier incarnations (like extrusion that actually leaves the original surface if you want it to) or do something that was standard-issue in lesser programs a couple years ago (like proper disp mapping). The biggest change, really, aside from all that Mental Ray yak I haven't paid any attention to in the slightest yet, is all these wierd architectural primitives they threw in. Which are nice, if slightly confusing. Less so than the Teapot, though.

EDIT: Ah, got the Tab panel back in place. Good thing I didn't overwrite any of my MAX5 files. Mwuhahaha, I'm, like, powerful now and stuff.

Well...I can't upload the movie...so I'll just render a part of the scene, hang on...

work fine for me... type a '?' after the url when it opens in a new window to get it to work.  And Corhellion, be careful with your Geocities bandwidth.  It'll expire before you realize it if people start downloading a 4mb file repeatedly.

And the animation's pretty cool.  The initial explosions may be too big... there's a lot of secondary explosions as that target (depot?) blows up, and all you get is just a bunch of bright flashes.  For that matter, it's all a bunch of bright flashes anyway, which makes it hard to see much of anything.  Nice work on the shot and debris though.  And a stationary ship is leaving a trail in space... again.  You might want to work on that a little bit.

criticism accepted, and acknowledged.

I'm going through and fixing up and adding a whole bunch of new stuff.

I need a new server to upload my crap

*btw, my bandwidth went bye bye like a few seconds ago*

Damn Geocities to the depths of hell...

anyone want to host a few pics?

Looks nice, yet its a little bland and short, you need to make that ship look like its moving more.

hopefully this will tide you over :)

Hope that's better looking than the first one.

It doesn't have Radiosity enabled so it looks a bit crappy, but oh well, it looks ok to me.

Hmm, you need to have the engine flickering, otherwise it looks as if it is standing still, and looks very plain.  Otherwise, great job, I could do nowhere near as good as that...

watched the anims.....

1 make the ship move..... secondly the explosion make the flares flicker in different locations at different times to make it cool looking ;)
