Yes, the long awaited second iteration of the "Six Most used Windows Programs" thread is here. Windows XP users, list the six frequently accessed programs that appear on your start menu list.
Mine:

Bersirc IRC.
I am NEVER lettting my parents use my PC again. :p

Word

PSP
Winrar
Calculator
Homeworld 2

total commander (windows commander! why they changed the name?)
outlook express
tvtool
palm quick install
winscp3
this list is in no way at all accurate. I use windows commander for almost everything. except starting windows commander and outlook express. I have about 60 folders in the start menu programs menu, because I never use it, and everything I install puts a folder there.

I'd list the top six on mine, but well, they don't involve Lightwave or games or editors or web browsers or compilers. That leaves horrible implications.
-
i offed anything that looked like Luna, and i switched everything back to the win9x interface.
-
Windows Classic looks like utter ass.
I'm in the middle of a reformat so some of the default icons are still in the list (even though I've never used them) but here's what's on mine atm:
Set Program Access and Defaults
MSN Explorer
Windows Media Player
Tour Windows XP
Freespace 2
Descent Freespace
XChat
Brood War 1.10 Loader (;))
My Shared Folder
Gaim

Yeah, but parental controls!? Any friggin moron can bypass that :p Just buy one of those little lockout thingies for on your tower. That keeps people from reaching the on/off button.

I just figured that since I don't have XP's 6 frequently used programs thingy and would have to make up the programs, I might as well make up the programs. :D

Shyeah! I installed it before I got the game, and some of my buddies don't have the game yet. And on top of the fact that I'm kinda lazy when it comes to deleting/uninstalling stuff. :D That's why I have 160GB worth of space on this baby. ;)

So I said
"Well how about I give you the finger... *gives finger*... and I get my phonecall"
Using that phonecall, i reset my menu to the classic windows menu - which = teh 0wn.
Moral of the story: the new XP menu sucks.
And I still have a mouth. Bonus.
Thus, lacking the ability to easily check what 6 programs i use (plus i'm not on my home pc), I'll compile a nice realistic list for you.
1.Winamp
2.Rhino 3D
3.Paintshop Pro 7
4.Truespace 3.2
5.Realplayer
6.Whatever game i'm playing at the time.
-
No, the old menu sucks hard. Having your most commonly used programs available without having to drill down into the 'Programs' menu, minimise everything to access the desktop ot fumble about with the mouse to use the Quick Launch toolbar = teh 0wn. The only problem with it is that it takes a ****ing age for it to learn your habits, I *still* have 4 of default shortcuts in there even though I'll never use them in my life.
edit: Did I mention the fact you can also 'Pin' your own stuff to that pane rocks the house as well? No? Well it does.

Quicklaunch toolbar? The bit with the icons next to the start button? It is teh 0wn. One click opening of any program is sweet. Make your taskbar two rows deep to take full advantage. Then you can get 10, 12 of your favourite programs in it. Not jsut 6.
And desktop icons are sweet too. Power to the old style windows!
-
But you can't access either of those conveniently with the keyboard ;)
-
Mouse= your friend. Ofcourse.
I just preffer it cause i use the mouse more. Its easier to use at a full arms reach, ie more slouching in chair - and it keeps the other hand free for... ummm... a drink. Yes.
-
IE
mIrc
DC++
PTC
Photoshop7
WMP
-
Well I use a Mac OSX GUI for Windows, so I keep everything in the dock... here's what I use, though.
1) Trillian
2) Internet Explorer
3) 3D Studio Max
4) iTunes
5) Irfanview
6) TMBG Clock Radio
