Hey all,
I just re-installed FS2 today and updated it as usual. I downloaded the latest builds and all of Lightspeed's shinmaps. I didnt know where to put them so I just dumped them into the main folder...
anyhow, when I began playing, I noticed that when I fired primaries, I could see nothing. I still heard the sound and saw impacts though.
Also, I was looking at the orientation of the ships and the sun, there was no sun...There is still the brightness increase when I look at where it should be, but it cant be seen.
Anyone seen this before? (Sorry if it has already been posted havent been here in a while...)

Greetings,
What operating system? OpenGL or DirectX? What is your video card?
-
heh that makes sense.
You'll have to enable 32bit textures and 32bit mode in order to see any of the improved effects ;)

I think the readme for the 3.5.6 (a or b) VP file should include a line that tells the user to use the -t32 tag and which builds support that tag. Also, all new build packages should include RT's Launcher V3.1 so that the tags can be activated automatically.

Crap forgot to replace -t32. Took it out to test something. Lemme try it...

K...still not working. I added -t32, i get an error saying its an unrecognized command.

Then you're using a build that doesn't support -t32. Only the "_t", the version without an alphabetical extension, and the 11_18_2003 builds support it (from my experience). Also, if you choose _t, you have to use the -htl flag as well, otherwise it won't run.

to correct you TP, you dont need to use the -htl flag to run fs_open_t.exe.

Got it working now
Had to do a little digging to find the most up to date launcher and build. :doubt:

Odd... Bob said it wouldn't work without it when he first made it. It was in fact, my lack of knowlege with the launcher, command line tags, and the proper use of these that kept me from using the _t. I didn't know that the tags weren't being applied if I didn't run the game through the launcher. Of course, 3.1 fixes this. In any case, before I discovered this, the _t would crash as soon as I entered the techroom or commited to a mission. This would seemed to have been a response to the -htl tag not being activated when I ran that build. Using this and the -t32 tag got the build and the new effects working. The only thing I can think of (assuming you are correct) is that either A, the _t will work without HT&L, but only under certain hardware configurations, or B, a later "_T" build was made (circa fs2_open without any extension) that solved that problem, which you have and which works without HT&L.

the original _t build crashed if not using the -htl command line
