It's about time someone made some uglies of Freespace fighters, so here you go. For those of you who don't know, Uglies are fighters made from scraps of debris and other fighters welded together and jerry-rigged into working condition. It's been common practice in Star Wars fiction for a while now, with TIE-Wings and Y-fighters and such.

Those are the LOD1s, no submodels yet. What do you think? And here's the game: name the components used in each ship. :D
EDIT: fixed links[/url]
-
Actually, I think they look very good(though I'd still work on the first two). One of those models looks more terran than some of the [V] fighters toghether.
Just one thing: they should either be grey or brown - not both.
-
You already know what I think, but to reiterate: F'ing awesome. :D
-
How come no ships have Vasudan bits welded on them? :p
-
technological diferences?
-
I like these ships.

Plus lack of availability. If you're a pirate/renegade/good-cop-gone-bad, you're probably Terran.

Well, they're all using the default textures at the moment, so a few mismatched colors are bound to happen. I actually like the patchwork colors, it's part of the whole Ugly theme, but some texture editing to add warning stripes, metal patches, welds and duct tape would be wecome.
The reason there are no Vasudan bits and pieces are because of A) technological differences pirates and scavengers have no hope of overcoming and B) most of these scraps would have been from GTVA-NTF battles.

Hehe... hmm...
Comanche: Body of a Loki with a Myrmidon missile pod slapped on the left, engines of a Valkyrie, nose of a Centaur.
Seminole: Body of a Valkyrie with the right wing of an Athena, engines of a Loki, nose of a Hercules.
Cherokee: Body of a Hercules with the right missile pod of a Medusa, nose of a Valkyrie.
Navajo: Body of a Zeus with a Medusa engine block stuck on the left and a Zeus engine block stuck out of place on the right, nose of an Athena (in the wrong place), unidentified forward gun mount.
Yurok: Unidentified body and nose, engine of an Ursa (rotated 90 degrees), left missile pod of a Medusa, right gun turret of an Ursa.
This was all from memory... now to research the so I can fill in the unidentifieds. :D
-
The Yurok's nose and body are from the Zeus.
-
Almost, but not quite. Any more guesses?

Engines of a Loki. D'oh! Should have stuck with my first guess. Post edited.
-
My god.. bastard children. :D
Only thing negative is that a lot of the mixed pieces look out of proportion, even for uglies. I think it has to do with the cockpits.
-
I personally would have preferred at least a few symmetrical designs, but the concept's good, and the implementation's not too shabby
-
Those are definately awesome man!!!
-
Galemp, you should be shoved into the intake of a Boeing 777. That's... Well its good work, but damn man, that's horrifying.
-
Indeed! I like them alot!
Now, do some Vasudan ships like that!
Old AND New
-
The best part about Uglies is their design peculiarities. For example, if you turn that Cherokee too hard, chunks of it might fly off. :D
Too bad that can't be modeled in FS, but I'm sure that flying these babies will be veee-eee-eery interesting.

He's referring to the chunks flying off the ship he was joking about I believe.
Anyways, hurray for the mutant ships! XD I like these things. That Navajo is one freaky ass bomber. Wonder how it flys.
-
Those have got to be....
the ****ing uglies things I've ever seen! :D
Good job! :D
-
There may be individual ships in SW that can be termed "ugly" but not as a ship class! I dare you to call these ships ugly so take it back Emperor...

-
They're not ugly but they're uglies.
-
Goober: 63%
Woolie: 3%
So, any more guesses?
-
Hey! Navaro and Yurok are actually pretty good. Can't identify Yurok's body though...

it's a medusa's it's upside-down by the looks of it..
-
Well I can't tell why, but these ships look quite cool. I like them they are so confusing to look at that this maybe could be there best weapon ^_^
(An confused enemy can't shoot back right?)
I would try to make some new/add textures where the different parts are connected so that it looks like they have been weld together, but after that not beein painted...or even think about letting them be just grey...as they wheren't paintet.

I wondered about that. I figured it was upside-down but I didn't know which one it was.

'takes a closer look'
so it is! That was the only part I couldn't get.
Very good man:yes:
Flying them could be a realy pain (due to the strange alignment of COG, thrust resultant, weapon ports and cockpit position), but would also very intresting
Now make a few more, maybe some symetric ones?
One question: Why are there no Apollo parts? I'd of thought those would have the easiest to get hold of.....
-
Well done, Turnsky! Did anyone notice that the Zeus hull was backwards?
I'm considering making more, if I can get my hands on some more scraps... perhaps use chunks from the Kulas, Myrmidon and Scimitar, and some pieces from Inferno's Jotun and Notus.
There's no Apollo pieces because they're connected in such a way that it's nearly impossible to integrate them into the other hulls. The Loki, Herc and Medusa are all fairly modular while the Apollo's bits connect in weird ways.
-
It's not just an art form it's Picasso!
So Galemp, have you found your true calling? ;)
-
as said before, try some more semetric ones.
and what about this idea?
take the weapons hull of a Centaur, about five of them, welded in a line. now, had some stretched nose, a few big engines, and various missile pods on the side, and some turrets top&bottom. it could be used as an utlra heavy fighter/ultra light cruiser.
-
Just the sort of thing for pirates, hmm?
-
Navajo and Yurok look cool :)
-
Looks cool. The only thing needed are new textures...
-
ooooooohhhh...
-
OH... MY ...GOD!
They are perfect! They would make excellent pitare fighters!
Can I have them for DOTA??? ...PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

That's true (http://www.darksaber.freeserve.co.uk/craftgeneral.htm)
-
TM: I think he was planning on releasing them publically.
-
It all depends. Who knows, maybe I'll hand out one to each campaign that wants them... :D
-
I call Navajo. :p
-
Dibs on the Seminole.:D :nervous:
-
Hey, I asked first!
-
Like throwing a bone to a pack of starving dogs... :D
You know somthing, I think I'm going to beef these up. I'll add some exposed wiring and tubing, and a few other things so they actually look cobbled together instead of just bits of models glued to each other. There may also be some more on the way, but those will be kept secret for use in the campaigns priveliged enough to have me on their staff.

Hey, you're on my staff. :D
-
You're welecome in my staff anyday!
-
Off the top of my head
Comanche
Nose - FS1 support ship. Rear/mid body - GTB Zeus. side pods - Loki, Myrmidon. Engine - Valkyrie
Seminole
Nose - Herc 1. Body & wing - Valkyrie. Other (right) wing - Athena.
Cherokee
Nose - Valkyrie. body & RHS pod - Herc Mk.II. Left pod - Zeus
navajo
Nose- Athena. Body - Zeus. Guns - Ursa. Right engine - Medusa.
Yurok
Nose - Zeus. Body - upside down Medusa. right pod - Medusa. Guns (LHS) & Engine - Ursa.
-
man, those are [glow=blue]ugly[/glow]
in a good way though
-
WEIRD :wtf:
-
Somehow...the Cherokee fighter scares me :nervous:
-
It's probably far inferior to a Herc, although it can carry bombs on the left missile bank, so cap ships better watch out.

Cockpit is of the FS1 support ship, hull and right engine from loki, back engine from valkryie
-
I think everyone has that one. There's still a component everyone's missed in the Cherokee, though...
-
the (perseus?) hook?
-
It's an Athena tail-fin, actually.
I win. The cookie stash is mine!
-
The second missile launcher - ti's from a Myrmodon!
-
What's the left gun pod on the Comanche?
-
All uglies are uglies,
but not all uglies are ugly.
:)

I'd guess Zeus, but I think I'm wrong. I couldn't place it to begin with.
-
It's an engine module from a Myrmidon - I guess upside down.
-
Ah yes, a good set of Space Inferiority Fighters. Looking good so far.
I like it!
-
Kewl. :D:yes:
-
Use these in a campaign.
