Title says it all, I'm modelling a Futuristic Battleship.
It doesn't have a name, but I'll leave that up for you guys to decide.
Front View, Looking into the hanger (lens flares are running lights)
http://cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Terran_Battleship_WIP2.jpg
The Bridge (I know it looks small, but that gives you a sense of scale, I'm also not moving the turret near the bridge :p)
http://cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Terran_Battleship_WIP3.jpg
A row of AA Guns (Individual models, just wait till I get them firing :D)
http://cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Terran_Battleship_WIP4.jpg
One of Two Secondary Turrets (Smaller, but just as detailed)
http://cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Terran_Battleship_WIP5.jpg
A Primary Turret (Like the ones on our modern Battleships, but alot bigger, and meaner)
http://cor_renders.danmattia.net/Renders/Terran_Battleship_WIP6.jpg
A Beam Cannon, or Rail Gun ( The blue rings are magnetic accellerators, so I guess it is a Rail Gun :)

Now, keep in mind that this is a Work In Progress, and I'll be working on it for a while, till I'm satisfied with the results. (More details, more greebles, more everything!)
Questions? Comments? Ideas?

It needs greebling (real greebling, not ****ty plugin-greebling) and some....err....whatdayacallit.....err.....Chamfering.
-
Like, I said in the first post:
Now, keep in mind that this is a Work In Progress, and I'll be working on it for a while, till I'm satisfied with the results. (More details, more greebles, more everything![/I])
I'm gonna keep on adding detail till I think I've covered everything in some kind of detail.
It'll take time, but I'll get it done.
And whats..."Chamfering"...?
Cor

From what I gather it's a fancy way of saying 'smooth the edges'.
I'm not up on all the 3D terminology so I could be wrong. Infact I think 'greeble' is the only term I know. But anyway, smooth the edges.
-
aztecing?
anyway intrepid sounds like a good name.....
-
Intrepid...Hmmm...I like the sound of that!
As for the rounding...can't seem to do that...don't know how...yet...give me a few days to play around with the model some more and I might figure out how to smooth out the side.
anymore comments?

Why did you 'say' that?
-
pretty neat looking ship. what are the current polycount and dimensions?
-
I'm guessing.....150K and.....3
-
Not bad, really scary looking, except. . .
Well, the coverage of the main guns is good, great in many cases, but there's a glaring lack of coverage in the engine area. The big guns underneath and forward can't get around that giant tower, and the guns on top don't angle forward enough. I suppose smaller guns (which is there) could do some of the work, but if another similarily armed ship got into that blindspot and pounded. . .
BOOM.
Armageddon is a good name for this ship, BTW.
-
I'm taking all the suggestions into consideration.
And I've already named it.
Thanks goes to an0n for the name list.
I'll add more guns and detail this week, and next, and the week after that, almost christmas holidays, so I'll have plenty of time to finish it then.
I'm gonna work on the detail for a bit tonight, I'll post some renders before I head up to bed.
Thanks for the feed back!

Alright, I added some detailing to the bridge tower section, it's not done yet, but I can finish it up tomorrow.
The lower half is some of the crew quarters, and the mid section is the communications array (swept back turret looking thing) , and radar systems (blue dome with the 2 antennas with the lens flares on the tips)
Any more comments?

I hate to say it, but it looks really cartoony. Hopefully that's just the absence of textures, but the round/square dichotomy make it look like a bunch of stacked primitives. The guns look great, the engines look good, but the hull itself is somewhat, well, meh...
EDIT: Before you go gung-ho with greebling, add some mid-level detail. That bottom tower needs it a lot, and there are a lot of flat expanses that greebling alone won't begin to fix.

Hey, I didn't give myself that title on NW, I only kept it like that. :p
And lose the glowy red glows on the closeups, they cheapen the render, IMO..
-
You guys do know it's legos, right?
-
KT: Um, no. It just kinda looks like the same sort of thing.
Anyway, if this is your first model, it's quite good. Could do with some detailing on the large surfaces and some non-****e textures, but overall pretty nice. If this is, say, your fiftieth, for shame.
-
Stryke 9: it's my 3rd I believe.
KT: No...it's not lego...it's a Cinema 4D model...a real model...
Raa Tor'h: The glows are only that big on the close up shots, they are scaled with distance, and so don't look like that all the time.
Strat: Well...I guess it does look kind of cartoonish...but I can fix that with some Radiosity :) And mid level detail I can do before I add the high level detail.
Thanks for all the feed back guys!

Whee for me!
Also, that's not detail.
This is detail:

CREDITS: The above is a render of the Saratoga model made by that Merc guy from TGU.
-
Is this futuristic mega detailed monstrousity gonna be able to squeeze into retail FS2 or is this a product of HT&L open...?
-
Did anyone say it was a mod at all?

that's textured... that doesn't count ;)

Lightspeed, that's a lot of modelled detail.

Err, my bad. I guess the way it's designed, with the shapes and the 'pieces' and the fact that it's you, made me think it was. :p :D
-
It looks sorta like lego.
-
guess I'm sorta used to lego...meh, my stuff will change over time
-
Little update: OMG...I finally found out how many polys the ship has...Polygons=564
I AM NOT KIDDING!!! there's also 1223 objects, but since the SCP has obliterated the poly levels...I think I can put this in-game!!!
I wonder what it would look like. (it's about 2.8 kilometres long)
Hmmm...anyone wanna try to convert this into a pof?
Cor
-
Oh, yeah, right. I've been waiting... how many years now for someone to convert my models to Freespace format for me?
It's kinda a DIY deal. Though with some different textures that would indeed be pretty damned cool ingame.
-
I would do it myself, but PCS keeps freezing up on me...and I have tried to convert some models myself, with no luck. So there!
-
If that whole model is only 560 polygons AND its made up of 1200 objects, you've used about 0.467 polys per object.
You've misinterpretted your data somewhere along the line. I think, perhaps, you're looking at a single subobject being 560 polys, not all 1200+ subobjects.
-
more like 564k polys.
The damn model is like 30 mb
U crazy crazy person
HTL = 25k MAx
-
actually, the file isn't that big, only 810 kilobytes if I'm not mistaken...
it only looks like a better model because of the lighting
-
1000 polygons in Lightwave is about 27kb... Thats one hellload of polygons if the file is 810kb
