oh and lightspeed... it _is_ nice. pretty much the only big thing i'd pick on right now is the neck. necks are wider than people think, in portraits they tend to stretch from, to, the point of the jaw on each side. i wouldn't say my stuff is better than yours... just different.

actually that neck is correct in size...
It's more about the unnatural person protrayed rather than the picture itself :)

if you didn't pick it up, it's a portrait of my ugly self :p

oops, i forgot that, makes sense now

for reference, although it's a bad picture, this one (http://smalltimerivalry.com/sschost/scriptlightspeed/9403.png) shows a more 'normal' person. Note the neck :)

For no apparent reason, here is an image of a tired person showing their neck:

It's amber, dammit, amber! :p My text is like this because it's easier on the eyes to have amber on a black background than white on black. I'm a nice guy like that ^_^

LS, what's with the 42?

Nah, that isn't so good. Old computers chose amber and black for a reason :)

But anyway, I digress. I've completely forgotten to comment on icespeed's work, which is rude of me. I especially like the horse - you're very good at drawing animals, icespeed. Turnsky has a rival in the wolves department ^_^ And in all the drawings, the shading is perfect :) If I had to pick anything out at all to criticise, it'd be that the perspective and relative angles in some of the drawings is/are a little off, with wide-angle characteristics and long-zoom characteristics close to one another, and a little mis-alignment. It's such a minor point though that I sound like a pedant to myself just bringing it up.

Yeah, HHGTTG reference :)

And indeed, excellent drawings! I particularly like the second one down from the top of the thread, very good.

I keep thinking you are Black Wolf when you post, the two of you share a similar taste in Text colour. My first comp was a Greenscreen, but I won't subject you all to that ;)

It's old. It's easy on my eyes. It's blue. Go figure :p

And as for 42... yes, it does make sense. A lot of sense

-edit- note that i broke the tag on purpose so i wont see that brown again

Meh. Old (old old) plasma screens were amber and black. I liked it. It's the best colour on black, at least. Get used to it, bubba ^_^

Greenscreens kicked arse. I still want one for a secondary monitor.

Face it, green on black or dark green in blocky text just makes things look important. Managed to make even Pong look like something you'd see labcoated scientists running back and forth with huge sheafs of paper over in front of those neat 60s memory tape reels. And it intimidates the fuck out of computer-illiterates. Or maybe that's just because all the greenscreens I have are attached to computers roughly the size of compact pickups.

Were I sad enough to actually need any distinguishing traits to my posts beyond my own utter greatness, I'd go for green. But I'm not. Ha-ha.

But I'm not. Ha-ha.

fine, ill get it back ot... on topic... odyssey, what did you mean by long zoom and wide angle characteristics? (im not a photographer so i don't know the terms...)
Title: Icespeed's Drawings (Image Heavy)
Post by: Setekh on November 27, 2003, 07:47:24 am
When you zoom in on things, the perspective point (the line to which all parallel lines converge) moves further away, making all lines seem more parallel, and things seem tighter together. When in wide angle, lines seem far more divergent (the perspective point appears far closer to the subject), and more spaced apart. The effect on portraits is for example that at extreme wide-angle, a face will have a big nose and small ears, while at extreme zoom (or telephoto, the proper name), the face will appear more flattened than spherical.

And when they do that camera thing in movies where the background rushes away/towards while some object remains the same size and position in the center of the field, that's called a panaflexic-zoom, IIRC.
