what really would be cool, and you could achive effects like that with it, is if you could set that warping effects (the ones that were discussed for damaged ships where the polygons shudder around) to specified subsystems. You could add a semi transparent plane with this effect that actually looks like some kind of freaky warp / jump hole. Then add a SEXP to end the mission once the ship touches it.

The only problem would be the warp.pof, it would stretch backwards from the front rather than 'erupt' like the stargate effect :)

What we really need is a very good texture to apply to the warp pof and the rest would probably start to work itself out. Something where it starts from the edges and grows inwards and then loops once its fully open. Applied to the warp pof, you'd probably get the desired effect (though the wormhole leaping out and killing things would be pretty cool).
