Title: Broadband modem advice?
Post by: aldo_14 on November 28, 2003, 08:06:12 am
fianlly got the f-ing thing ordered, and I'm activated on the 10th next month.... anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has any general advice on buying a modem.  i was just going to buy a farily generic, cheap USB one from dabs (need to connect to a laptop, so I'd rather just move the modem than faff about with a router - though I do have a wireless network card for the lappy) but figured I'd check to see if anyone had any advice / warnings first.

f2s.co.uk

I turned down paying 70 squid for the modem - figured I could get one cheaper elsewhere.

yeah usually the ISP will either sell or rent one out to you... that's what they did with us, except that instead of having to pay for it, as long as we use their service the modem's free...

USB 2.0 is designed to work at up to 480Mb per second. It is fully backward compatible with USB 1.1. USB1.1 supports two speeds, 1.5 and 12 Mbps. USB 2.0 supports 1.5, 12 (making it backward compatible), and 480Mbps.
