just a few of them, I just made them, liked them so much decided to share.
trail 1 and 2 are alternates, they arn't quite done yet, but you can see were I am going

and given how many beams use thrusterglow01 it does add a lot of cool ness to a lot of beams

been playing with the axion lens flare plugin i see.

Eenteresting. I kinda like the thruster tails, but I'm not sure of the glows... I guess I'd have to see it in game. If I had a good enough PC to render them with a decent FPS...

actualy the lensflares were made from truespace + a slot of work

Dont those thrusters look crap in the game? It's only my guess, but with a vertical design like that they should be visibly spinning around their z-axis. I like the images though, make them a bit higher resolution, and get rid of the white flickery line (a dot in your case now) problem.
the Lenseflares and trails have some weird sharp colour specks and dots inside, try making them smooth.

I think the lenseflares look weird. The other maps are good, all they need is to make them more opaque so you dont see the ugly thruster model through.

They could prolly use some refining perhaps. Feel free to experiment, Bob :)

I didn't make a #3 thruster glow so keep the old ones, at least for now, they were designed with use of the old #3 glows still being present in mind

are you using a recent build?
the #3 glows should be getting pushed tward the camera all the time now, and it doesn't look like they are in those screens

hmm, the glows seem a little too weak and... purple. I think they'd look better if they were more blue and thicker, the trails seem perfect though :yes:

Bad for thrusters.
Sexy looking from a non-fs standpoint, though

Awesome. Not that much like you woud expect from fs2; but hey, we're devloping a new engine, why not put in some 21st century graphics?
I'm all for making it look like fs2 was pulled out of one of Setekh's renders.:D

I just updated the graphics, they should look moe like an improvement on the origonal, be sure to extract all of them becase I only added #3 glows (#1 and 2 are exactly the same), and trail01 and 02 should now be usable if you want to give them a shot

Well, since we can use different Engine Glows for different races, theres a whole world of possibilities opened ;)

thruster glows looks very good but trails...hmmm on fighters yes on caps no :ick

i was watching the Fs1 intro and this effect is on all the fighters.....
thruster trails arnt.... hmmmmmm....
BTW look at the Lucy's warp effect in the intro/endgame

bobs refering to the main folder, where all the .exe's are kept.
your really supposed to slap the effects into the data--> effects folder and the maps in the data---> maps folder models in the data ---> models and so on, its less clutter to take care off.

I like what I see on those screenshots, and I like the lense effects too :).

things in the fs2 folder will overwite anyhting in the folders or VPs so if you want to make sure something gets used put it in the fs2 folder.
and I have taken note of the warp effect of the lucifer in the cutsceens, and have thought of ways in wich to implement it

yeah, ive had trouble with flares too. But anyway, heres what I came up with. Less cinematic I guess, but i kinda like it - you inspired me :)

BTW What do the trail graphics do? (trail1 and trail 2) They look like they would look great in the place of the thrusterglows 1 and 1a.

The Vasudan "ray" effect is a nice touch, but as it stands now, it's simply too large. The Vasudan cruisers look as if they should be cleaving some kind of wake through space, their thruster trails are so big. Opt for something more subtle, along Shivan and Terran lines.

I always thought the shivan should have had only those engines you can find in FS1, those red thinguys w/o thruster flames. That made them look different

Take the scorpion, it only has those red engines. The manticore has two of them on the back end of its arms, plus the regular engine between them. That's a model thing tho, nothing you can do about it.

oh, yeah, that was, I feel, a nice effect as well. made them seem even more alien

The rays on the Vasudan trail look awful. That should be used for a glow, not a trail.

might want a look at my version then, theyre lots less 'rayed' although you can still see Bob's cool idea ;)

Well... err... why is there a limit of 3 particles? I wanted to make a 4 tiered particle trail, but it wasn't happening.
And particles don't seem to work on Capships. Or atleast whenever I tried, they didn't...

I think they do, but the ship is so slow you can't see the effects extending.

I set it to 3, becase I thought thats all anyone would need, I can add more easily
