Still static. It looks like a glory shot with Photoshopped plasma bolts now, is all. No muzzle flash to make the weapons fire look convincing, no variance in the charges to make 'em not look like Photoshop, no motion blur to speak of, no engine glow, no nothing. Just the one ship and a static background.

You know, you could at least try. You'll **** it up the first few dozen times, but actually putting something in the renders is kinda, you know, what people look at 'em for.

have you ever watched deep space 9?

defiant front cannons dont have mussle flashes......and they dont have engine glows.....there IS motion blur if there was more youd yell aww it hurts my eyes....so i decided to make less.....the phaser pulses are not made in photoshop X method in lightwave....and if i did them seperately it would take me only a hour ..... to place individual ones.

okay, then have him shoot at *something* let us what the Defiant or whatever it's name is (never really watched Star Trek) shooting at, put in some background action maybe, a planet, explosions are always good. Static is bad.

What makes it look awkward is the fact that the pulses' "blob" is in the center and not at the front. Furthermore the colors in the render don't really fit together so the picture looks pretty incoherent colorwise. Try to give it a general tint.

monotonous sucks :p and the blob is fine imho

I don't speak of monotony I meant a coherent color scheme, keyword being coherence.

All right, so everything is fine in your opinion. Weren't you the one *****ing on and on about how nobody gives you commentary on your renders? And here you don't give a **** what people have to say. Get your story straight, man.

3 suggestions:

1) Tone down the background nebula a bit and then increase the contrast on it.  The object being to get rid of the large white dot and add a bit more texture.

2) Since you have a green nebula in the background, how about adding a hint of green lighting from the back?  Just to get a tad more of a green hue across the whole render.

3) I don't recall the torpedoes firing in that rapid a succession for that duration, what if you placed more of a gap between them and/or offset their firing times so that it looks a bit more sporadic?

Overall, I think its quite good

We've got a beauty shot with weapons fire.

Why?

Where's the target? what's the target? Why is it standing still and firing?

your phaser blasts aren't coing from teh phaser arrays - go watch dsn again they blast should com from those little nodule thigns  on teh nacelles jsut next to the bussard ramscope

the pahser blasts also arent quit the right colour abit more orangy

and yeah that green star and nebula should be lighitng the scene abit too

1/3rd as many pusles and each pulse should be 3 times as big, scoot the ship back a bit more and have one of those jem ha'dar ships getting punded in the forground, have a few burning wreks in the background

I actually think something like 75% of the criticism comes in the fact that you are rendering a Star Trek ship.  That looks a lot like it could be a still from a battle scene in DS9, although there are some minor inconsistancies as have been pointed out already.

Don't put in hulks, because Star Trek has never suffered from the Battle of Endor syndrome, in part because the ships were more powerful, smaller, and rarer.  Another factor is their vast speeds; even at impulse, a battle would leave wrecks very, very quickly.  The massive fleets of ships have their places in things like Star Wars, but in Star Trek it seems forced.

The lighting needs to be adjusted, so that the Defiant is backlit in a greenish hue, and all of the glowing bits are illuminating the hull around them.  The phaser pulses also need to light up the front of the ship a little more.  It would be nice too if you either found a render-worthy ship out of some other universe (honestly, Star Trek renders are a dime a dozen... this is actually one of the better ones, but it's still a Star Trek render) or created your own ship and showed it off this way.

I thought most of the criticism was because it was just a static picture with not real sense of movement (and even in ST, battles have lots of movement).

mikhael i showed on another forum and those people screamed too much motion blur!...... i think i set it just right look at the nose of defiant...and im gonna redo the pahser bugs and lighting later maybe add a galor explodeing but it will be another render ill keep this for my nice desktop collection:)

you never did watch the final seasons of DS9, did you?

but indeed, throw in a target, and some better lightning

It doesn't look like there's much motion blur on that at all, Ashrak.
