yep. its me, Im not gone yet ;)
now just a stupid idea but kinda easy, just wondering if someone would make the Halo(you know, the big ring) just for fun. I tried a search but the search engin just isont working :doubt::
if someone alredy made this then just point me in the direction of the like :)
-
Just make a really, really big ring :p
-
Hmm....let's see......I think it would take me about ten minutes, including textures! :D
You don't even have to be faithful to Halo's landmasses either since they're not that 'clear.' Just use Lunarcell's 'map color' option on a very long texture map and apply that! :D
Although, why the hell would you want a model of Halo?
-
Just use the measurements given by Niven in Ringworld, since that's where Halo got the idea in the first place.
-
Actually, the Halo is a LOT smaller than the Ringworld. It's around 10k kilometers in perimeter, according to Shrike (don't remember that being mentioned in the game, though). You can see that it's not that big by comparing it to the planet it's orbiting (the Ringworld itself is all the way around a star, with more or less the diameter of Earth's orbit).
-
Scale in Halo is a bit FUBAR'd... the ring is MUCH larger than 10km across, although there really isn't much reference. It may actually be around 10km wide, though, as that could make sense. Or maybe 10km thick, although that makes somewhat less sense. Anyway, looking at the ring, I would say you're talking somewhere between 1000 km and 5000 km in diameter, somewhere near the same order of magnitude as earth's diameter, although somewhat smaller. And that planet it's orbiting is a gas giant, so scale comparisons are pretty much useless there.
-
at least its not as bad as the scale in freelancer

Now if that doesn't go against every prefixing convention I've ever used...
That sounds about right. Trouble is, at that scale the newer builds won't show it. HT&L has a clipping plane at something like 100km.
-
I wanted the Halo because I knew it'd be really easy to make and I just wanted it for the fun of it
now on to somethng more complicated then
Banshee? :D
-
banshees aren't space capeable though :p

Looks fine to me.... what convetion would you use, like? x10^3 ?
-
The Ring isn't very large. In that room where you're about to start the hanihilation thinguy ( where you have your AI wifey and that weirdo bot arguing ), you have a 3D map featuring the planet, the ring and the moon. The ring is about 1/6 the diameter of the moon. If the planet was to be the size of our earth, the ring would be about 1000 km in diametre. Hell, 10 km, with the wartog, you'd cross that in 10 minutes... The ring is at least 30 km wide, I think.

Originally stated by HBO (http://halo.bungie.org/)
Halo is roughly 10,000 kilometres in diameter and 22.3 km thick, and remains in orbit at a Lagrange point between Basis, the moon, and Threshold, the gas giant.
-
That's some big moon then :)

then uhh, how about that ship you leave in at the end of the game, or the Pillar of Autumn, or a Pellican, or something :p

Or how about a Covenant dropship, or the Truth and Reconcilliation?
-
how about a TC, while you're at it? :p
-
Even better! :p
-
Just wait for the mod SDK and extract the damn things. :p
-
I wonder: how large is the pilar of autumn? according to the last mission, it's at least 10 kms long, according to the intro, comparing to the people seen through the bridge and the fighters flying around, it's hardly 500 meters long...
Is keeping scales right that difficult to achieve?
-
Yes. Yes it is. Especially when you aren't even thinking about scale, as Bungie obviously was not. I think the PoA was somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5km in theory. But as you say, every external view of the thing is a different size it seems... (the one where the EP launches is probably the closest to true scale)
-
Err.. IIRC you drive at least 2k in the last level.
-
and it even has its own built in canyon!
-
And jumps.. and giant unbridged gaps. :D
-
i think it would be fun to see shivans coming out of the vent shafts rather then the Flood :D
-
FS:FPS anyone? :p
-
now you're talkin' :D
-
...huh?...

This time bullets bounce off their skin, they stab you with their knives and whomever's left they shoot with their "eyes" beam cannon.
-
It's a shoulder beam canon :D
