I realized it's been SO long we had something like this.
I belive you all know the rules. :)
But let me ask you for a thing: please make the question itself bold, udnerlined, colored, or something that highlights it from the main post text.
First question, an easy one:
What are the three parts of the GTVA?
-
Security Council, Galactic Terran Alliance, Parliamentary Vasudan Navy.
-
Where did the shivans make their first appearence?
-
you cheating bastard! he's right.
-
Be more accurate, it is not that I am thinking about. Make some corrections on the last two, the first is good.
To Stealth: I was thinking about: General Assembly, Vasuda Imperium, Security Council. But in a field of view, it is right, too. :)
The Shivans first appeared at Ross 128. Or is it more complicated? :)
-
no, i meant that Llivinlarge answered it, and then Lightspeed just jumped in with a new question ;)
-
anyway, in answer to your question (more specific), the Shivans were first encountered on the way to the Ribos system, as the Plato was traveling through the Antares system...
-
Yeah, that was the site the player first saw them, but they were first spotted at Ross 128.
Don't care, we are just now beginning this. :)
-
Where was the Meson Bomb developed?
-
It was developed by the Hedeki Institute in the Vega System.
-
Why is everyone talking about Vasudans referring to :headz: ? - I love this question ;7
-
Because in a subfolder of the Silent Threat CD it shows a Vasudan pulling a decapitated Violition guy's head out of a box. In the company's kitchen.
...I think.
-
Okay, what about... How were the shivans supposed to look like originally, and what was changed later on (which you can see in FS1) ?
-
If you mean the ships....
Green & black instead of red & black. Hell, the old maps are still on the model shown on the back of the box (screenshot)
-
that's correct.
How many different ship-types are allowed to have in your kills-list until the Barracks screen crashes (in FS2_retail)?
-
Dunno but i lost my rear admiral to it... something like 90 i think.
This one i had a hard time with myself:
What does the voice actor for Snipes say during the second bluper voice cut verbatim?
-
Well one answer to that is the number of entries in your current ships table. I don't know about the hard limit.
-

do not engage, repeat *weird noises in backround* thump thump thump thump alright, had your fun?
-
blupers? there were blupers? where?>
-
Not to be anal, but the Shivans first attacked outposts of little importance along the fringe of GTA space. Ross 128 was a system of more strategic value, so the loss of contact there was the first to actually be noticed. From Volition commentary.
-
Correct Answer: it will crash as soon as 65 or more ship classes have been killed.
-
I'll start off easy. ;)
What was the name of the AWACS being escorted by the 99th Skulls?
-
That would be the Hamako
-
Very good. ;) A little (not much) tougher:
Name the three pilots who flew with you in Into The Lions' Den.
-
Snipes, Zenny, and Xeb (not exactly sure on those spellings)
Where was the Iceni constructed?
-
Actually, Strat, it was Snipes, Xinny and Zero. :p :D
-
Where was the Iceni constructed? [/B][/quote]
The Freedom Shipyards, Polaris ?
that was a guess off the top of my head.
-

-
The aquitane is the flagship of what fleet
-
GTVA 3rd Fleet, based in the Capella system.
What is the correct answer about the construction site of the Iceni by the way?
If I am right about it being Deneb:
Which planet is to be evacuated in the 'Surrender, Bellisarius' mission?
If I am not right about the Iceni, you can ignore this question, at most I will ask it later when I will be correct about another question. ;)
-
Cygnus prime.
The Iceni was indeed built in Deneb inside that big asteroid.
An easy one Which bomber do you never get the chance to fly in the main campaign
-
NTB Zeus.
NTF bomber, no GTVA have.
-
The Zeus isn't NTF it's an old GTVA craft that they've mostly replaced. I'll have to double check if you can't ever fly it cause I was thinking of something else.

"The Iceni is the NTF command frigate, built under Admiral Bosch's direction at the Freedom shipyards in Polaris, captured by the Neo-Terran Front at the start of their rebellion."
Is it the Artemis DH?
-
Nope. You can fly the D.H if you play the loop missions. :) I thought this one was going to be easy. :)
-
Medusa.
-
Nope. You can definately fly that one in Slaying Ravana :D
-
It's one of the Vasudan ones, the the Sekhmet maybe?
-
Shivan bombers.
-
EDIT:
HAH... good edit Falcon... i saw that :p
-
If you edit the ship tables and the campaing you can fly shivans:devil: :D ;)

Finally someone gets it :D You can't actually fly the sekhmet in any of the main campaigns missions.
Since no one asked a question I'll add another one. (this doesn't prevent Strat from asking one) :D
Bonus Question : In which FS2 mission can you fly the zeus?
-
You didn't add without editing the campaing:devil:
-
You can fly the zeus in the (cant remember the exact name) but its the mission where the mjolnir cannons blast the incoming NTF ships.
Who is the old poet Admiral Petrarch refers to in the final cutscene?
-
Plato?

This is indeed the correct answer. We came up against people who thought it was deneb when NTV Emergence was released. A quick look at the ships table however confirmed that the Iceni was built away from the Boadicea.
-
Who is the old poet Admiral Petrarch refers to in the final cutscene?
Shakespeare, the quote is from Hamlet.
What is the name of a GTVA ship that isn't designated GT or GV by default
-
Colossus?
-
Amazon Adv. ?
-
no The amazon Adv. is designated GTDr
Oh, and cargo containers don't count.
-
Ma'at is PVFR in Freespace 2.
-
Meson bomb?
Yeah, that's TC-Meson bomb. But that is not a ship, so maybe it is an incorrect answer.
-
wrong. SF Mara (terrans) :D

NTD Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogeryciwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.:D

I wouldn't want my worse enemy to have to be the damn comms officer who has to keep repeating that name during an engagement! I liked Dues Ex but they really need to shorten it!
"Sir, That F-ing ship is hailing us.."
-
What are the systems in Freespace that do not exist in reality?
-
Subspace, shields, artificial gravity, holograms (see FS2 Vasudan main hall), and God knows what else.
-
Latest scientific studies show that subspace does exist - when they tried to resolve loope physics last time they ended up with a model that had encased realities in small bubbles in our own.
....beside there is no photon beam canon in reality so far.
-
Vasuda prime is one of the ones, I can't remember any of the others...
-
What was the name of the Meson-Filled destroyer the GTVA sent to collapse the Vega node at the end of FS2?
Later!
-
GTD Nereid
-
which system does FS2 begin in ? (hehheh)
-
Deneb.
Sadly your trick question didn't work.
You may have hoped that everyone would get it wrong because the Aquitaine starts off in Vega and then moves into Deneb before the first mission but since the Intro is set in Deneb it's sort of backfired didn't it :D
How many cities of Troy does Bosch refer to

Name all the destroyers that you can personally destroy (i.e., kill can be credited to Alpha 1) in the main FS1 campaign.
This is also a bit of a trick question. :drevil:
-
Enamy or enemy+your own?
In that case - Eva, Anvil, Lucifer, The one in the mission where you chase lucifer.
If you count your own then it's more...
-
All of them. All you have to do is use cheat codes. I personally like to arm BFReds in my primaries and Helios missiles. With unlimited missiles and no energy drain. ;7

But I am certain there must be one more left. Maybe it is a Typhon, too.

well, the first said to the player is "welcome to Vega Ensign".
So it is Vega really. And the intro is Great War era, not "current"
But you are right, it was just a cheap trick (question) so I'll let it slide !

TopAce and Trashman combined got it. But Trashman gave the wrong reason for the Lucifer: in the last mission, the kill for the Lucifer isn't credited to you because after you nuke the reactors it self-destructs. However...
you can destroy the Lucifer in a FS1 campaign mission. Name it. :drevil:
-
It's the 'Good Luck' mission. BUT:
But I suppose you found a bug, where the Lucifer doesn't have the invincible flag, and you are curious if we discovered it.
[EDIT]The Great Hunt :)
Otherwise, you do not stand a chance to destroy it, unless you are using cheats or hack the mission itself.
-
"The Great Hunt" is an FS2 mission.
There's only 2 missions I can think of where the Lucifer stays around long enough to be vulnerable, but I don't know if the invincible flag has been left out in either case. There's "Playing Judas" and the mission where you have to escort the scientists from the GTSC Rosetta in 2 Elysium class transports, and the Lucifer jumps in. I can't remember the name of the second mission I mentioned, but in that case, if the invincible flag is missing, and you find a way to deal with all of the Scorpions and Basilisks its sends at you, and either knock out enough weapons to make a safe zone near the hull, or find a blind spot, then all you'd need to do is plug away for a half hour or so (at 4x time) and eventually, BOOM!
Later!

Yes. Running the Gauntlet. My roommate managed to destroy the Lucifer after a half-hour or so of pounding at it with a Valkyrie armed with Prometheuses and Phoenix V's.
-
But you cannot destroy it, it is invulnerable.
What's wrong with the Lucifer in the intro of FS2?
You can release your hair here, I am not curious for a single exact thing. Write whatever you think of it.

beams in the wrong places

This is what I was actually thinking about. ;)

The invulnerability tag was off... the mission designer forgot to set it. That's what I was getting at, if you reread the discussion.

And of course the port would be the ones to point that out :)

I mean the 'Running the Gauntlet' mission. It was invulnerable at me. In the 'The Great Hunt' mission, it was really set off.
Next question, anyone?

I'm sill waiting for anybody else to find the Eight major components of a subspace drive from the last thread :D

1. Beams in the wrong places--they come from the sides of the hull,. not the tips of the arms.
2. The red parts are too dark and don't glow
3. Its beams are too strong--it can't cripple an Orion with one hit.

Look at the pod with Galemp's shine maps and hi-res textures. The pod's windows are crammed with Vasudans. Some are even waving at you.

I've seen them on the Ra... Theres a dead one in the unmanned FS1 vasudan support ship debris too...

They aren't actually the ones I was thinking of though :D

This is not a bug. Send-random-message does exactly that... it sends a random message out of the list. It doesn't send every message in the list.
-
By the way, is my answer correct?
-
Which Vasudan bomber takes after a shivan one?

yes, it is the radar scrambled one... the false prevents a string of messages from being sent...

No.
-
Seven, if you count the Great War cease-fire.
-
No. Where are you guys getting your numbers? It's right there - five, plus the one at the end = six.

Poor Goober, surrounded by idiots (myself included, I had no idea it was 6). You don't get cabin fever, do you? *eyes albatross in the sky* :D
-
 I thought they'd get the answer when I told them where it was posted, at least. :)
And, of course, this is only Eishtmo's interpretation of it. We really don't know what the canon answer is.
P.S. Cabin fever? [I know what the term means, but I'm not sure what you're trying to ask.]
-
You're worng. There were seven:
2328:
February: First Cease-Fire established.
2329:
January: Second Cease-Fire established.
December: Third Cease-Fire established.
2331:
January: The Collapse of the Talina Nodes. Though known for their instability, the nodes to the Talina system had been stable enough for the GTA to use the system as a major supply dump. In late December 2330, however, the system was contested when a PVN fleet entered via the Vega system forcing the GTA to withdraw key equipment and personnel. By January Vasudan and Terran scientists had independently determined that both nodes into the system were due to collapse to an unusable state within only a few weeks. The commanding officers of both the GTA and PVN fleet called a cease-fire and jointly organized an evacuation of the system. By late February, the nodes were no longer stable for anything to travel through. For years it was hoped that the nodes would restabilize, but hopes would be dashed after the destruction of the Sol-Delta Serprentis node and the system was finally removed from maps.
March: Fourth Cease-Fire established.
November: Fifth Cease-Fire established.
2335:
January 25th: GTA and PVE sign a cease-fire and non-aggression pact based on the XXXX-YYYY Treaty. The 14-Year War officially comes to an end.
Seven cease-fires during the Fourteen-Year War.

Ah. Yes. I'm getting bored with winter, here -- I want to either snow or warm up. So far, it's done neither. :sigh:

I can't think of any really good ones, so here's a freebie:
In the Freespace 1 mission "Shell Game," what are the names of the four transports that appear, and what are the names of the objects that cause them some "troubles?"
-
I know that the "problems" were decoy cargo containers filled with explosives, but I forgot the names of the transports.
-
Harmon, Marcos, Stern, Dobbs. :)
Which two mission names are used in both FS1 and FS2?
EDIT: Three if you count the one with II after it. ;)

The Great Hunt, Exodus
Confirm me about them.
-
The Great Hunt and Clash of the Titans.
EDIT: Question changed to be less easy
What is the name of the HoL destroyer that engages the Lucifer near the end of FS1?
-
Maybe the Prophecy.
Can we see her in a mission?
-
Exodus, The Great Hunt, and Clash of the Titans
Exodus[/u]
FS1: escorting transports and freighters after the Lucifer nukes Vasuda
FS2: first Blue Lions mission, escorting a convoy out of Capella
The Great Hunt[/u]
FS1: penultimate mission, chasing the Lucifer as it enters the Sol node
FS2: looking for the Shivan base in the nebula; the Ravana appears and nukes the Lysander
Clash of the Titans[/u]
FS1: escorting the Bastion past the Tantalus into the Delta Serpentis node
FS2: escorting the Bastion past waves of Shivans into the Epsilon Pegasi node
-
So I was right. ;)
[EDIT] I didn't mean the Hammer destroyer question.
-
The PVD Prophecy doesn't engage the Lucifer; it tries to stop you from reaching the Sol node.
-
Damn! I wish I had a FreeSpace 1 CD!

-
Ooooh, that's a toughy. I'm tempted to say Anvil (that's the only other HOL destroyer I remember near the end), but I'm pretty sure that's the Typhon which we destroy with Harbinger bombs and the new Ursas. Damn... what was its name?
-
The Anvil is the one destroyed by Ursas with Harbingers. I'm guessing Woolie Wool is thinking of the Prophecy, but it doesn't engage the Lucifer. Those two Typhons are the only named HOL destroyers in FS1 (not counting Silent Threat).
-
okay- new question:
In FS1 where is the Flail gun developed?
-
Laramis.
-
You can use it first time in the Aftermath mission. It was developed at Laramis.
I am still curious what the correct answer is for this Hammer destroyer question.
Dammnit! Blaise was quicker! :)

Just to stay at FS1:
Who is your wingman in the Eve of Destruction mission?
-
Lieutenant Harbison.
-
How was the SJ Sathanas class originally intended to be called?
-
Apocalypse.
-
What is the last (voiced) word you hear when playing through the FS1 campaign?
-
"liberation."
Or, in mission, the very last one you can hear is "left!"
-
BR, you've correctly answered three questions in a row and haven't asked one yet. :)
Howabout based on that one: What's the first word you hear in FS1? And what's the first and last word you hear in FS2?

First word in FS2 - Thirty-Two
Last Word - Off
-
Which ship class is the last vessel you'll see when playing through the campaign?
-
Last to encounter for the first time? Or last ship you see in the cutscenes? Or the last ship you see in game?
Anyway, the answer to that is either the Meson Bomb or the Shivan Comm Node (can't for the life of me remember which of those comes first) or a Deimos and a Moloch, depending on how you interpret the question. If it's the third option, then it's whatever fighter you have selected for the last mission.
-
As for FS1, the Ursa. Ulysses, Thoth, Ursa.
BR, you've correctly answered three questions in a row and haven't asked one yet.
I can't think of one stumpifying enough. Not yet, at any rate.
-
The last ship you would see in the last mission of FS2 would probably be the Deimos ship that is parked next to the node, IF you escape. If you dont, then, I dunno. You see yourself dying. ;7
-
You forget the hordes of fighters, escaping ships, and even Sathani around Capella. And since you can jump out in any direction, it's hard to say what you'd see there. However, since you'd either see yourself hit with the supernova or yourself jumping out, so your fighter seems like the best choice if that's how you interpret the question.
-
That would be, for me, an Erinyes. ;) But otherwise, I go with the Deimos corvette.
-
Thank you very much. Now, next FS2 question.
What was the name of the station that was self destructed in Capella?
-
3rd Fleet HQ or some derivative of that.
What two missions use the shivan comm chatter sound?
-
"Return to Babel" and "Into the Lion's Den"
Post the transcript of the Colossus cutscene - from memory. :drevil:
-
The correct answer to my question was "SCv Moloch" if you answer the way the question was supposed to be :)
-

So you were refering to the cutscenes. The question was a bit ambiguous. It's where the Moloch and Deimos are duking it out as the shockwave hits, and they are first charred beyond recognition and then blasted into smaller bits. I seem to remember them both being in that scene together, but maybe I'm mistaken.
-
Well, although in the FMV they practically disintegrate at the same time, the moloch is in front of the deimos (deimos gets hit by shockwave first). So I suppose you could say that you see the moloch last :D
-
K, this one might hurt:
Who originally discoverd jump nodes, and in what book can you find his findings? (along with edition and page numbers)
--Rga
-
Ohhh! Yowch... where's Goober? ;)
-
Eishtmo and I were talking about this just the other day. :)
Prof. J. Whiteside, 2213, McPherson's Multipaedia, pages two-hundred something. It's in the FSRef Bible.
EDIT: Okay, so I got the page numbers mixed up with the date...Inter-system travel via subspace is another matter entirely. The end points of inter-system subspace jumps are limited to the naturally-occuring focal points of subspace, also known as “nodes.” These nodes were initially discovered by Prof. J. Whiteside (see McPherson’s Multipaedia (2557 ed.), pp 1132-1140). Only between two subspace nodes is the fabric of subspace strong enough to support inter-system travel. The defense of the physical locations surrounding such nodes proved to be a central part of the 14-year Terran-Vasudan War.
-
Woah woah woah, the Freespace Reference Bible? Where is this and where can I get it? ;7
-
*Claps for Goob*
Alright... one more semi-doosey:
Terrans use Meson particles to create a bomb. The shivan have been utilizing these particles since Terrans/Vasudans first encountered them. How?
Goober will probably get this one... ;)
Oh, and for the guy/gal looking for a link to the Official Ref Bible:

It's the first downloadable thang on there.

In particular, in the Flux Cannons on the Lucifer. Though all shivan weapons generate meson particles, the flux cannons are so stupidly powerful that it set off alarms to Terran scientists well before the existance of the Lucifer was confirmed.

Although technically you're both right, StratComm had what I was looking for...

Ok then, next question:
What was the total cruiser count in the first cutscene of Freespace 1?
-
Oooh, here's something I know very well. :D
Okay, now, there's a trick to this. When we first hear the Arcadia's response to Ash's distress call, we see two cruisers passing in front of the installation. Then, we see one cruiser on the radar screen of the comm officer. Lastly, as we see Ash's crippled Apollo speeding towards the station, we can see three cruisers around the station.
I guess that should be three, then. ;)
-
Do you classify a Faustus as a cruiser in this case?

I would - it's designated a Science Cruiser after all.
Edit; actually is it? I'm sure it is, but don;t have anything handy to check this.
-
Yeah, I think Faustus would qualify as a cruiser. But does one appear in the cutscene?
-
I meant Fenris cruisers.
-
As far as I can remember, I saw a Faustus in the intro. Or was it a Fenris actually? All I can remember was a rotating thing, which I guess was a solar panel(or something else) of a Faustus.
-
I think the spinning part is the radar array of a Fenris. I'm pretty sure it's 3. But Tin Can hasn't said yes, so I must have missed some...
-
Do you classify the Lucifer as a cruiser? ;)
-
SD Lucifer? Maybe they mis-spelled 'cruiser'. Shivan Druiser-class? :p
-
Any ships which can cruise are cruisers. ;)
-
The Lucifer was not a cruiser, wise guy, the Lucifer was not even a destroyer, it was a "SUPER"destroyer. I think they kind of exagerated on that seeing as how, ironically, the Lucifer just got its ass whipped in subspace by a few bombers, and then they built the Sathanis ships out the wazoo. We need more background on the Shivans, ya know?
EDIT: Anyways, yes, there WERE 3 cruisers in the stations area. The Fenris ones, anyway. Congrats to whoever got that. Anyway, next question:
Where was the deleted Terran/Vasudan fight scene staged around mid-game, before the guys at [V] decided to delete it?
-

The ' ;) ' smiley wasn't there accidentally.

It's more your second post TopAce, it was admittedly unnecessary, un-intelligent and generally annoying.
In a bar on a space station. Don't know what station though.
-
i believe it was the Ross 128 station. no wait. ehh
its unnamed i belive.

That was me. It means I get to make up the next question. But I'll forgive you this time :p
The fight scene was meant to show the start of the T-V War, which allegedly began when a Terran and a Vasudan had an argument in a bar.
I'm not sure it was meant to be mid-game, but just to be sure: the other deleted cutscene from mid-game was the destruction of Tombaugh Station, from the eyes of a reporter, as the Lucifer appears for the first time. :)

well if you want to be technical about it, it would have been the second time since the Lucifer appears briefly in the intro :)
But it's the first time you actually get to see more of it, other than it's front. In the small movie window in the briefing after the capture of the Taranis.
-
Actually, the fight scene was staged after the Lucifer apeared and "Will" and his buddy were watching the TV about recent attacks. His bud kept on commenting about how the Vasudans and the Shivans were all in on it to kill the Terrans, and soon he threatened the Vasudan guy and they just beat each other up. But the place was called "The Booze Bin".
And since it takes everyone so long to figure out a questions OR ask one, I'm going to ask another.
What was etched on the glass the officer from Act 1 Intro was drinking in the bar?

I think the answer would be here (http://jdjtcagle.tripod.com/freespacefanatics/id6.html);)

Then put up the answer. We dont need a link...

ITA Repulse Officers Club:)
-
Now come up with the next question. We are all waiting for you to answer...
-
What was the aniversary (when Konsu II announced the colossus) about?
-
The 10th anniversary of Ross 128.
Next:
Which of the following is not a FS2 mod?
- Derelict
- Awakenings
- FS Port
- DoP conversion
-
Awakenings?
-
Correct. Awakenings was a FS1 campaign that involved the GTA/VPE invasion of Ross 128 at the end of the Great War. One of the missions, The Sands of Normandy, is available with the FS1 Silent Threat bonus missions.
Anyway, you're up next.
-
Hm... alright then.
What are the two forms up supspace travel?
-
Intra-system (system or sistem?) jump and inter-system jump.
What are the names, or callsigns of the pilots that fly with you in "Into the Lion's Den"?
-
242nd Suicide Kings
-
I believe Xinny flew Alpha 3, and Zero Alpha 4.
Next question is for the origin of the above-named callsigns.
-
wasn't it the old Volition public boards or something??
-
Oh, my bad. I thought it was something else. Yeah, it was Snipes, Xinny, and Zero (respectively)
And they are part of SOC in an operation to proceed into the second Knossos portal.
-
The names came from the FS1 Multi ladder. They were the top two at some point in time IIRC.
-
Yup, that's correct. (Though Hurricane's now numero uno or two last I checked)
-
No new question since half year?
