My computer is freezing randomly, and I can't figure out why at all. No hardware changes, no software changes, no problems registering in a SMART utility, and yet it still freezes. Any other ideas of what I can check?
-
How hot is it? Check all the fans are working and that the room is cool (or at least the machine is cool).
That happened to me a while back...
-
Hmm... That could be it. I just realized that the intake for the fan cooling the hard drives was blocked. That could have caused it, especially considering it's the only fan I'm using for intake.
-
Nope, that wasn't it. I'm going to blame the single program that freezes the most (NWN) and reinstall it.
-
Ok... good luck - try reinstalling video drivers and such as well... and keep an eye on the temperature (it doesnt hurt :))
-
So there's nothing at all in common in terms of what you are doing when it freezes? What OS are you running?
-
what my problem is my PC freezes and the sound loops (if playing something) a repeated half a second......and it just stays that way unless i press reset (not restart) ... any suggestions?
-
1) Close all all processes except those needed to run the system.
2) Check system/CPU temps.
3) Update all drivers, uninstall old drivers first and reboot.
4) Update system BIOS.
5) Reinstall OS and do NOT run any tweakers.
6) Repeat step 3.

done all of em fury cept bios update
-
Ashrak...that sounds like a driver issue or defective hardware.
-
Ashrak, you'll be surprised how much problems a BIOS update can solve. So do it if you have tried everything else, just be careful not to mess it up.
-
Rather interesting. My problem was basically identical to Ashrak's. However, today, just as inexplicably as it started, it stopped.

dont worry itll start up again....the problem is actualy worktime i think :p shut the sucker down for a day ... should work :p

I tend to get this kind of problem when my computer is overheating.
