A map of the internet?
-
Yeah I saw that...the Giant Snowflake of the Net :D
-
:wtf:
-
so how many of those branches are porn sites?
-
and which one is HLP?
-
I'm tempted to Gimp in a "You are here." graphic.
Note that this isn't a map of the WEB. This is a map of raw IP space. Wherever an ICMP packet can go and send back a return, that's what is on this map.

The little red one.

What they need is, like, a realtime version, so you can actually watch the ****er grow and shift at a disturbing rate. And then you get some good doobs, sit back... yeah, that would kick ass.
-
d00d, a real time version would kill your processor.

I was going to suggest the same thing. :D

Hey, I can see FSwatch from here. ;)

He should also consult a contractor so he can have his house repaired when he runs the plugin and his computer explodes.;)

the anti-aliased version looks much cooler:

Could the shift of information be randomly generated by averages? Say... study how often data comes down steaks and then estimate what the whole lot would look like if it moved... it'd all function on the same principles all the time so you might get some repitition but it wouldn't have to monitor and work out each individually... and damn, what a light show it'd be.

Carl, I swear, if you keep stealing my drugs I'm gonna sic Darkage on you!
-
*steals all drugs*
-
Carl, all I can say is :wtf:
Can't you leave your pics well enough alone?
-
what do the colors represent
-
I'm not sure. It could be latency, or it could just be highlighting routing costs, or it could just be seperating routes out. I didn't read the site too carefully.

So where's the beginning? :p
-
Assuming that's the opte project map, colours represent the region the IP is from (physical regions, like Asia, Europe, so on).
Asia Pacific - Red
Europe/Middle East/Central Asia/Africa - Green
North America - Blue
Latin American and Caribbean - Yellow
RFC1918 IP Addresses - Cyan
Unknown - White

Hey, I can see my house from here.
-
That's huge! Where did you get this image from?

That is indeed where I found it. :D
Sandwich, the beginning is one of opte's computers. These guys are mapping the entire Internet in 13hrs each day, leaving them 11hrs to process the data and generate this map.

Well, I didn't expect to see that here.
Pretty cool otherwise, Mik. :)

Yeah, am I the only one seeing that Homestarrunner thing in all of the images Carl posts?

I'm guessing 60-75%.

No, I see it too. Get the colorful blob back!

You are exegenerating. I assume at most 10% being a porn site.
-
Probably less than that... those sites wouldn't show up on a map like that to any great extent. Those are machines, not web pages, remember. What would be more interesting (but more complex) would be a map created by a webcrawler, showing the interconnectivity of all of the websites online. Then something like 15-20% really would be porn.

Google could actually do that - they already have a list of backlinks to all the sites in their DB; it'd just be a matter or parsing the info and displaying it in a way that didn't look like crap.

Put the image into FS as a new subspace effect. Open an opinion thread about it, take place in your most comfortable chair/armchair and see how quickly the longest thread in Internet foruming history is created in no minutes, with at least 100 posts per minute.
And my English teacher says not to write too long sentences. ;)

:wtf:
-
Exactly.
-
Nothing. I wasn't serious. :)
-
More importantly, what the hell were you talking about?
Your english went the way of my hungarian.
-
OK, let me explain it like it would be explain for children below 6:
1. Put this thing into FS2 as a subspace effect.
2. Release it
3. Open an opinion thread about it.
4. See as how the longest thread of all time rises up.
It is not serious, it was just trying to be a joke :)
Otherwise, you are a jug: My English is well above your Hungarian. Do you know at least one Hungarian word at all? You americans tend to critize and hate non-americans. The USA is the most powerful country on Earth, but I am notifying you that other nations exist. If I were american(or any native English speakers), I would remain in hide. Especially when I have no knowledge on the language of the others.
:ha:
Try to learn Hungarian, I am curious how quickly you will give up. I am also curious if there are any Hungarian teachers in the USA at all.
It was around midnight when I wrote that message. So I was tired to take care of the grammar.

Wow.
You know, perhaps you should read what I said. I said I didn't understand what you did, and that I thought somehow your english had slipped when you were typing that (IE: Gone the way of my nonexistent hungarian). At no point did I, or anyone else insult you.
I'll take your opinions about me, americans, etc, form what they are worth.
