*points to the Freespace Port project*

It's the GTFR Chronos.

Or the (almost) Identical Amazon Advanced...

And you want better textures? :wtf: Even with the FS2 map shrinking, that is the single best textured freighter in the FS unvirse bar none...

Yeah..that's the one...great..
Time to put that missile launcher on top to use!

The thing is - I don't want to download the whole FS1 Port VP...
I just want the freighter.
So, can whoever is in charge of that project kindly point me to it?

You'll have to download the whole port VP.

Why make it not so wimpy? It was a civilian freighter, you don't see howitzers on semi trucks. It even looks frail.

Maybe to turn it into a gunboat of some kind? *shrugs*

Exactly. Or you could make it into a Q-ship by putting in a big-ass beam cannon disguised as a TAC 1 cargo container (although the turret on the bow might give it away)

It's a civilian freighter and should stay one. You shouldn't give it more weapons unless you are one of those fanboys that cannons onto everathing because they think it's not l331 enough the way it is.

I find it difficult to believe that a FS1-era civilian freighter, which was notoriously weak to begin with, could benefit in any way from reintroduction into a campaign.  And what's all this talk about Q-ships... if you want to mount a major beam weapon (on the order you're trying to indicate Woolie) you'd need to configure the entire internal structure around the weapon, and you can't just randomly do that to something unless it was designed specifically for that use.  A more likely scenario would be to strap the weapon housing on outside the hull of a smaller ship, with its own reactor, but that's not what you're talking about here (not to mention that a Cruiser, which every faction in the FS universe seems to have a limitless supply of, would be much more appropriate).  I've heard more talk of mounting a USilv on some little ship than is healthy, especially since the ship designed to use that weapon has a 6 km external housing for the mount.  Stick to some sense of practicality, and you won't get these kinds of comments.

I was thinking of an SGreen or TerSlash.

Well whatever, it's still too powerful to just randomly chuck into a cargo container and call it a warship.  The USilv comment actually refers to something in the Inferno forum, but it applies here as well.

why to give more fire power to freighter??

That was a BSilv (maybe it should be scaled back to an MSilv) in a science cruiser that looks rather large and has a great big open tube sticking out the front. It would basically be a floating beam cannon inside a science cruiser hull.

And both modified ships would be useless for their original purposes since any research or cargo-hauling capacity or whatever would be removed to fit in the beam cannon and a new reactor. Another possible Chronos modification would be a fake cargo module that is a permanent part of the ship that would house laser turrets or FighterKillers, changing the Chronos into an anti-fighter gunboat.

I was thinking of a re-fit or a new ship calss... a military freighter.
So..I add two more turrets to it...big deal!

I wouldn't make a new class, just make it another variant of the Chronos. But just putting turrets onto it is enough. I would at least change some aspects of the model, e.g. giving it a bigger spine, and adding some other details to make it look different to the civilian version. And I wouldn't give it more than three turrets(it's still a freighter); but the best thing would be to leave it alone and create a new model.
