Title: Alpha 1 in Tow?

Can one get a ship to dock with and tow alpha 1 around in a mission? Could I have a mission where Alpha 1 gets busted up and some pirates come and tow him to their ship to capture him or something like that. I just tried in FRED2 and the Poseidon won't dock with it, and when I try to give the Hygeia and dock and waypoint mission the Hygeia just spins around like a top or some dumb thing and doesn't go anywhere, I dunno.

Didn't they do that to your wingmen in Derelict? I have a hard time imagining it'd work for them but not for the player.

Not to mention you'd need a sorta.. good excuse for that to happen to you as alpha one and still have it be a mission.

You'd have to set it up VERY carefully so that you break facing away from the support ship that would come in and pick you up.  And it has to be a support ship too; freighters won't cut it.  That's why the Poseidon doesn't work.  It wouldn't be a mission support ship, but one you put in there on your own, and you would have to disallow support ships for the mission in order to remain broken down for long enough for an event like that to occur.

it did happen in a certain single mission, IIRC. but you'd probably need to disable all engines first.

If you try to have the support ship jump out with Alpha one you'll encounter a rather nasty bug so make sure you end the mission with alpha being docked to instead if that's what you're about to try.

I don't think it would be difficult to do. You only need a special non-docking support ship entry, where the Hygeia(or whatever support ship class you are using) has a 'transport' flag instead of 'support'. But the player can still do maneuvers, and that might disturb the stupid Ai pilot.

i think the point would be that A1 is disabled though, so the support should be able to dck without a problem...

pfft....why not just make Alpha 1 a stationary turret, like in Darklight Conflict- will solve everything I think ;)

(including shutting me up for making such an insane suggestion O_O)

If not disabled, you can just kill the engine system on docking anyway.

Make for kinda a fun rail shooter portion of the game- some drone support ship grabs you and takes you to a pirate base, but your guns still work so they're all trying to get out from in front of you while the support ship tries to go its preprogrammed route.
