I'm not staying, but you really ought to know about this.

Four years ago, this would have been "bad news", in that it'd be telling about where our society's going as a whole. These days, it's nothing new- we've already seen that our culture's this bad, and oh so much worse.

GARFIELD!!!!!!! YAYAYAYYAYAYA
-
Why must everything be a movie nowadays, anyway? The Cat in the Hat as a cartoon, done in the style of Dr. Seuss, would have made a fine movie. The Cat in the Hat as a guy in a costume was downright terrifying- I can only imagine the horror a small child would feel gazing upon such a thing. Cartoons are not meant to be turned into movies, never. Ever. Unless they do something serious to make the proportions not so disturbing when applied to a realistic character.

Not sure if it's bad news... you never know

I thought that the Cat in The Hat was a cartoon movie anyway? Dr Seuss should never be live action, take the Grinch for example, you can't improve on perfection and especially not with Jim Carrey.

It's like a clown made for doing evil impure things by something who'd never read Dr. Seuss nor seen a human.

That will some day be a truism old men tell to their grandchildren.

Actually, having watched the trailer, it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be and I prefer Mike Myers over Jim Carrey anyday but Dr Seuss just shouldn't be done live action, it just shouldn't.
The Cat In The Hat reminds me, unnervingly, of the creature from Stephen Kings "IT".

Well, all we gotta wait for now is Calvin and Hobbes. Where they'll rape the very idea and Make hobbes a magical CGI character who actually makes all the mischief and Calvin being this nice little kid always getting the blame for it.
*Shakes head*
Anyway, atleast Bill Murray is doing the voice for garfield. Which I think is cool, cause the guy who did his voice for the Ghostbusters cartoon, also did the voice for garfield. Kinda cool.
-
Nah, they won't manage to get at Calvin & Hobbes.
Family Circus, probably, but the only reason that they got away with, say, those nasty Calvin peeing stickers is because Watterson apparently didn't wanna go through the (rather extensive) trouble of tracking down the companies to sue them. Nobody could make a movie without his consent (wasn't he working on one, actually, or was that Breathed?), and he wouldn't give it. 'Sides which, C&H isn't very heavily branded- it wouldn't rake in the bills like the Seuss name does.
I mean, hell, look at it. The Grinch at least was only tangentially related to the actual book, and had next to nothing but the fact that it was an adaptation of a Seuss book going for it (except "zaniness" or some other term for what would appeal to a ten-year-old on a massive sugar high), and it made a disgusting amount of money.

A Calvin and Hobbes animated series was planned but Watterson canned it because it never felt right for him, I applaud him because he was having a tremendous amount of money thrown at him and he stood his ground rather than dilute C&H. Which is great because Calvin and Hobbes is without doubt the best comic strip in existence.
-
What the hell? The comic stip is bad enough now... a movie! Gah..
The comic was good years ago... but Davis is running out of ideas....

Agreed. The old Garfields are great, but the last few years have been horrible.
-
The dude makes one strip a DAY, for god's sake. Since 1978, darn. Of course he's running out of ideas...
-
That was basically my point...
-
Oh.... my... god....
That was awful.
And Garfield's move in the trailer. Which they shouldn't
-
no, the voice isn't right. and garfield is way WAY too energetic in the trailer. He's supposed to be really lazy. Liz even said so in the trailer, but the rest of it contradicts it. they better do a revamp before it's too late.
-
I hate streaming bloody QT...
-
Interesting....a rental movie for sure.
-

I can't believe this.
-
That's just wrong...
-
*twitch*
I can feel my synapses closing...
-
Technically, Davis doesn't have any creative worries- he's got a stable of artists doing Garfield for him nowadays. I don't think he even draws some of them anymore.

True dat. I heard about the proposed animated series and clung to my colour printed volumes in horror. ;) Calvin and Hobbes rocks.

This belongs in the garbage can with other atrocities such as live action sailor moon, the mario brothers movie and other scary fetishist movies.
-
Hey, hey, hey, I happen to [ilike[/i] scary fetish movies, don't EVER lump them in with the Super Mario Bros. movie. You sick sick man.
-
The Mario Bros. movie kicked ass, philistines.
I want jump boots. Or at least one of those Mad Max-meets-80s-punk cars.
-
 i had a teacher that looked shockingly like a goomba from that movie... red coat and all..

To tell the truth, I don't know why people rag on it so much, I actually quite enjoyed the film, I think that it has more to do with the fact that it has very little if anything to do with the game.
-
I don't really remember it all that well, just a few scenes, but... yeeh, it was pretty laughable.
-
Nothing in the movie had any resemblence to the game. Yoshi looked like he escaped from Jurrasic Park, and IIRC Bowser was no longer a dinosaur at all :wtf: And the mushroom things belonged in a horror movie

I've seen the trailer for that, and, well...
:D
-
there was a REAL Sailor moon? why in the living hell would they make such a thing.
Super Mario Bros Is a great movie i loved the Boots, yoshi, and the Princess. Bowsers cousins and the goombas made me laugh everytime i watch it.
-
I loved the Goombas! Didn't really care for the film too much. But it was watchable.

That's new, a live series out a couple monthes ago I believe :p
-
Noo, IT should never exist why why why. :(
-
I have actually watched all the episodes ot the SMLA. so far... dunno why though. Maybe because it's just so damn hilarious in many ways possible
Great thing if one think's it as a parody... otherwise don't bother :p
