Title: New bug tracking tool
Post by: Inquisitor on December 16, 2003, 05:45:55 am
http://mgo.maxgaming.net/mantis/main_page.php

After much lively debate, and a few weeks of testing, we have decided to move away from Bugzilla to a new system called Mantis.

We think you will find Mantis much easier to use and report bugs. I know we find it easier to actually use as well.

Onward and upward :)

Goober and I have also discussed the possibility of another bug hunting contest, this time with the "prize" being a copy of Max Gaming's new video game "Dark Horizons- Lore"

You guys game for that?

What, the person who finds the most bugs in the game will get that game?

I hope I can get my system built in time...

What're the bug hunt rules? :D

Post by: Goober5000 on December 16, 2003, 10:41:57 am
From the first bug hunting contest (paraphrased):

Quote
The bug MUST be entered into Mantis and not be a duplicate to count toward your total. It must also be completely filled out, including all appropriate details about your PC and the circumstances of the bug (how you got it, what you were doing when it happened, and how do we reproduce it).

Yes, we will accept as a bug report any missing functionality. One feature per bug.

Anything submitted to Mantis that's not already on Mantis counts. Including anything widely known, or even anything that was buggy in the original 1.2.

We might also give credit to people transferring unresolved bugs from Bugzilla to Mantis.  Depends on how good a job you do. ;)

It actually had mailed you Phreak, you just missed the original email :)

We can help people resolve issues with signing up as we find them, not sure why it refuses to mail some people. Do you have another email account we can try?

Strange.  I thought it was waiting for some kind of administrator confirmation, so I added the pending names to the project.  You're listed there, so I'm not sure why you didn't get the email.  You want to take another look, Inquisitor?

bottomfan and others: The old Bugzilla had a rather unfriendly user interface and was a bit hard to use.  And the email never worked.

I hope we can resolve the email issue... it's rather ironic that that happened with Mantis too.

I signed up twice with different emails and it still won't send me anything. Bugzilla's interface could indeed get confusing at times, but hey, at least it worked. :p :D

I just pruned accounts which had not logged in (phreaks and kazan's) so they will need to sign up again, and have manually reset the passwords on the following accounts (you should get an email)

Karajorma : nukes : Lightspeed : Raa : CP5670

Still haven't gotten an e-mail.:nervous:

Maybe you should set up a temporary anonymous account. So people can just log in to post bugs. Sure you wouldn't get the video game, but it would sure help out the SCP by telling them bugs.

wierd, it started email me again...

I can't email you the passwords, just reset them, but all that does is email you the new password. Admins never see user passwords.

Lemme try to set your addresses to my address and see if it emails me your passwords.

Could everyone who has ever submitted a bug to us (including through bugzilla) go into Mantis and check for old bugs that were fixed ages ago but are still hanging around.

If you leave it up to us it means we have less time to code.

Post by: Flipside on January 22, 2004, 07:07:31 pm
Just as an aside, I just thought that if you had a system like this for requesting features, where you select whether it's graphical, sexp, weapon tag etc, it would be a lot easier for you all to keep track of requests, and would save us pestering you repeatedly ;)
You could post decisions as replies to the requests, and people would know when the accepted ones were implented ;)

Couldnt we just have a guest login and get people to leave their e-mails. Its too difficult to get in.
Title: Mantis: The New Bugzilla
Post by: Goober5000 on January 26, 2004, 08:43:55 am
Everyone who said their login process messed up had a Hotmail address (except for Phreak, and I think he registered during the email server outage).  So for that reason, I'm guessing it's a problem with the Hotmail spam filter.

I don't want to do a guest login because then the system won't automatically email them on an update.  You saw the problems we had with getting people to use Bugzilla.
Title: Mantis: The New Bugzilla
Post by: RandomTiger on January 26, 2004, 01:04:26 pm
Perhaps you could put up a notice on the login page about the hotmail problem so they know.

should be seeing an warning about the email on the login page soon.
Title: Mantis: The New Bugzilla
Post by: Goober5000 on January 27, 2004, 01:40:39 pm
'Tis only the registration email that doesn't work.  After I set up RT manually, he's been probably the most active bughunter.  I assume that means he's getting the emails, but he could just be particularly vigilant. :)
Title: Mantis: The New Bugzilla
Post by: RandomTiger on January 27, 2004, 04:37:15 pm
Its all working fine now, I just dont want the initial login problems to put people off. Its nice having a proper bug system.

Ok, so I got the email, logged in, reported a bug, and everything was fine. But now I can't log in anymore.

I don't want to fiddle with a new account, so I post a bug here:

My FSO quits when I target a debris/asteroid.

My specs:
Processor: Pentium IV, 2 GHz
Video card: GeForce 4 MX440, no overclocking
Op. system: Windows 98 SE

First of all, you should sign up for an account.  It helps us out immensely.

This bug was reported already anyway.

I signed up for a Mantis account last night, but no email yet.  I'm using a Hotmail account... is that gonna filter out the email by default?

Later!

Yeah, Hotmail doesn't let the registration emails through for some reason.  Sign up with a different address.  You can change it to a Hotmail one once you've registered successfully.

Cool.  Use my regular email and now I'm in.  I posted a bug & mission, but I forgot to check the "advanced" tab so its not as thorough as it could have been.  No. 95 should include the following additions:

WinME
FS2_Open_r 2004-01-20 -htl -jpgtga -fps
Also, I don't recall seeing this problem in FS2_retail, though I haven't tried it in non-htl FS2_Open.

Later!

one question about Mantis.

is there any way i can be sure the list on my screen is refreshed?

my browser, provider and laptop all have a tendency to let me think it's a fresh page, untill i spot a time on there of 3 hours earlier. it makes quite wierd forum situations, but having this on a bug hunt is really annoying.
