1: I haved to spend like 20 minutes with the title screen before anything happens.
2: When i enter a vehicle and "Wildstyle" radio station is on, the game locks up.
it takes a load of wacking the eject button to unlock my rig, then eventually I can play minus music or speech in the cut scenes.
(the disc works fine on my old machine, so it's not that.)
specs:
2 ghz P4
1ghz sdram
Geforce4, ugh, MX
any ideas anyone ?
-
Not the GeForce 4 :)
Are you using an Audigy s/card? I had movie/radio problems, though no problems loading with one of those.
-
That GeForce 4MX may be causing your troubles. I'm not sure but doesn't the game make heavy use of DX8 features? Ie.....stuff that the GeForce 4 MX doesn't do.
-
If you have PS2 get it for Ps2 it is less buggy.

What are you talking about? Vice City runs perfectly and there isn't a single bug in the PC version that isn't in the PS2 version. Have you tried defragging your HD magatsu? It makes a huge difference where VC is concerned.

the g4 wasn't my choice....
I think it's more a prob. with the drive.
I get the "not responding" message with Task manager.
I'l try de-fragging my hard disk.
Try the easy stuff first right ?
many thanks!

Try copying all the adf files off your CD into the sounds directory and aquiring a No-Cd crack. That should solve the CD reading problem.
-
No-Cd crack ?
where would I find somethin' like that ?
-
The land of locked threads I imagine
-
what, where this one is probably headin' ?:sigh:
-
a no-cd crack is quite legal if you have actually purchased the game.
-
No-cd cracks are too hard too find. You also have to find the one that matches your version of the program. I have found some for mine but not many.

Remember...GeForce 4 MX and GeForce 4 Ti are two totally comletely differently separate cards. The Ti one probably wouldn't give you problems but the MX will...its the same as a GeForce 2 GTS with new packaging.

I'm gonna sod it off and get a 9600pro eventually anyway.
-
I'm running Vice City on a MX440, without a single problem on it, never have had any with the Video Card, however, as I said earlier, the Audigy Soundcard was another matter.
-
I didn't get to choose my GPU, what's your excuse ?:D
Don't know what sound card I'm runnin' at the mo...
-
LOL Mine came as part of the package and, to be honest, I plan to upgrade as soon as possible too ;)
Flipside :D

*whips out software law notes from last Uni semester*
Is it hell. :p

Really? Then why did Thunder lock my thread in the SCP forum asking for a build that was simply vanilla FS2 with the CD check removed?
-
Because the contract u agree to at installation says you cannot reverse engineer an application or alter it in any way.
Software contract law means you would be breaking those terms by applying a crack of any kind.
I should know I wrote a god damned 15 page essay on law and its application to our degree project.
-
But you aren't reverse engineering it. Someone else is by doing the reverse engineering it. All you do is replace the exe with the *fixed* one.
-
You are simply using a tool to alter some protected (by the contract) component of the software - thus u are as guilty as the man who wrote the crack.

Yeah but using is nowhere near the same as writing. Your not doing any harm to anyone by using the crack if you own a legitimate copy of a game, it's a shade of grey really.

Not in terms of British/European law anyway.
