I've been playing Inferno with FSO and its worked fine, but I want to play the last mission in vanilla FS2 so I can see Earth (since FSO has that distance thing with HT&L and its too slow without htl) but when I click continue from the main screen, FS2 minimizes and I get an error message saying I'm out of memory. I have 256 MB RAM a P III 866 Mhz and a Ti4600, Windows XP. When I open the Task Manager and look at Performance it says it's only using a little bit of the page file. So what's wrong? If I can run FSO why can't I run vanilla FS?

It does that for me when I try to use the same pilot for both. It *should* allow you to switch back and forth, but it doesn't always.
-
I guess I'll try a different pilot then. I don't see how that could have any effect though.
-
It does work with a different pilot, but I'd have to play through Inferno again. I guess I'll just play with HT&L and not see the earth.

yes you do, because your build didn't work. :p
When I click commit nothing happens. I have to alt-tab to get out of FS

Err, re-download the inf build from the link in Phreak's siggy. That should fix it.
-
hey, does anyone see any clipping problems with any of the models in the inf build phreak posted? any place were models have intersecting polys (like seperate subobjects, turrets ect) is there any z fighting?
-
I got the memory fault myself, with a 128 bit card and 1ghz sdram.
I did have about three FS exe. on my PC at the time though
-
I get memory problems when I try to run Freespace 2 on my laptop. Even the vanilla version gets this problem. My laptop is a Gateway Solo 1450. 1.2 GHz processor, 128 MB Ram, Windows XP Pro. As far as I can tell the memory problems seem to have something to do with XP.
-
I had this problem a while ago(a month?) and the only way I could fix it is to make a new pilot. FSO probably manipulated my pilot so FRED_retail couldn't read it.
I think everyone would better use two different pilots for FS_retail and FS_open.

About 3/4 months ago I bought FS2 on ebay 'cos my disks were damaged and I hadn't seen the cutscenes for ages.
Due to all my vanilla/open pilot file jiggery pokery I still haven't seen 'em. Must have started and re-started the main campaign about 6 times now.
