YES!!!!
I just need to add debis, LOD's 2 & 3, and convert it. Then I'l post it here FOR DOWNLOAD.
Here's a prewiev pic:

36 turrets so far...Should I add a few more?
-
Personally, i don't like the deimos style turrets, or the colossus type skins, but the model itself looks very good...
-
Looks like you've used two or three different texturing "themes". I'd stick with just one.:)
-
Not bad, not bad at all... I would rather separate the two runways, you would save a few polys and it will look nicer imho
-
is that same ship that Raa tor'h (or someone else) textured anyway looking good
-
Jesus H Christ on a pogo stick!
Er... yes, seperate the two runways, don;t have them running around to meet each other. And put the original Orion skins back on it. And steal the high-poly turrets of that Orion Upgrade thingy.
-
Yes, it was textured by Raa Tor'h. I did re-texture a few faces. I think it loks better this way.
Maby I should make the turrets a bit bigger? I do like the two-barreled Deiomos turrets better then the standard Orion ones. They go too much up for my taste.
I don't intend on changing the model now - the runway stays as it is.
The only thing I might change are the weapons or a texture or two.
-
Looks fat.
-
Well yes, cos it's what the millitary would call a Super Orion
-
I still think my mirrored Orion looks sleeker, despite the fact I just cut it in half and mirrored it, then stuck the sides together, rather than bothering to change geometry :p

-
it should have about 60 turrets...of which about 40 are lasers....10 beams 10 flack ;)
-
Where do you get those numbers? :wtf:
And whats up with the mix of blue and yellow lights?
-
The blue areas are the new 'nightclub' sections, devised by the GTVA for increased profit. Occasionally there are laser shows outside too :p
-
I aded a few more turrets...it has around 41 turrets now.
Odyssey, I did this Orion from scratch. I didn't just change one sie of the original.
Anyway, here it is - had debris, LOD's, turets and radars. Everything.

Cnverting...saving. Opening in Modelview..and...
ERROR 6101 - TOO MANY POINTS IN POLYGON (>20)
What!? Impossible - I triangulated the thing! Argh...!!!!
Ugh..gotta search for the offending poly!

Is there a law against it? It looks much cooler this way. Oh, yeah..It's a bit bigger than the standard Orion... it Is a Heavy Destroyer;7
As far as the armament goes, I thin the following will do nice:
- 6x Main turrets - Light Ion Cannon or Terran Huge Turret
- 1 BFGreen (in the nose)
- 2 BGreens (on the sides)
- 4-5 flak cannons
- 4-5 aaaf
- everything else is Terran Turret/Terran Anti-bomber Turret
-
Some of the textures seem to be stretched out of proportion; I'd fix that if I were you.
-
where? On LOD2? Who cares! It will be too far away for you to take a good look...
but I COULd fix that
-
1 BFGreen 2 BGreen
but the original has more than that.
wouldn't an upgrade model have similar firepower to the original ?

No it doesn't....the original has three BGreen's and a couple of TerSlashes. The BFGreen makes up for the loss of one BGreen and the slash beams. This thing will cut other destroyers apart at a longer range than most of them will be able to retaliate at.
-
the FS2 capship textures are BS...... firstly either there are midgits piloting every windowed ship or the perseus cokpit is HUGE drive to the side of diemos windows to see what i mean (with perseus)
-
ARghh...this is impossible!!!!!
I just triangulated all the LODS (including debris) and PCS converts it fine.
Modelview keep hiting me with the TOO MANY POINTS IN POLYGON EROR!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF!? How? Where?
*smashes wall with his head*
EDIT: Added two more beam turrets
-
I've never liked the off-set turrets near the front. I'd just raise the rear one and have 'em inline. IMHO. :)
the deimos turrets are a real improvement.

It's Modelview's fault. There's an upgraded version from VasudanAdmiral around that's different from the one DG posted... let me find it.
-
Try this: http://geocities.com/vasudanad/modviw32.zip
-
THANK YOU!
EDIT: Darn. The file you showed me is just a exe. The instructions said to copy it in the previous install of modelview, so I did. It did't even want to start.
So I delted it and went back to my previous version: 1.0 Beta 05 (build 28).
It still doesn't want to open the Orion MK3!!!:hopping:
-
download this exe or run a clean install of your version (this is just the one you have - beta 05 b28: http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/modv32b5.zip
run it and fully install it, then paste the exe Raa Tor'h pointed you at and put that over the one in the modview install directory. once that is done you have the upped limits version all set.
however, that error is one that will crash fs anyway, if it is the case and not modview.
triangulate the entire model - debris, lods and all and see if that does it. if the error is still there, then it means that you have a single vert as a part of more than 20 separate polys. most often occurs with oversmoothed cones, or really complex parts. remove some of the faces to get the number under 20, and re-convert.
as for the model, use the original orion's trim. not the one you currently have from the arcadia. also fix the rightmost antenna with the texture to match the others (and align the textures uv projection a bit better on all of them), remove the streatched vent texture from the front and the rear side extrusion and replace with either better fits of the current texture or a different texture alltogether.
also add detail to the large polys of nothingness (on the underside, high on the righthand side, and down the back). it could also do with more interesting engines, and good versions of the orions turrets, such as the higher poly ones raptor made, or _something_ else. and finally put some trim around those strange blue and grey lights above the hangers.
-
- antenne fixed
- stretched vent removed
- if I try add a poly around the hangars, my whole UV projection screws up, so I'll just leave it like this fr now
- I did triangulate EVERYTHING and it still gave me that message
I'm gonna try the install once more... If it doesn't work, then someone else wil have to take a look at the model
Anyway, a size comparison pic:
EDIT: YEAH! It works! It works! Now I can finaly finish the darn thing!
-
Hey, she's looking real fine there, TMan. Submit it to HLP when you're done. ;)
