Title: Need a modeler for a simple poly removal job...
Post by: Hippo on December 20, 2003, 06:16:03 pm
I need someone to remove the huge cube around the Ganymede so that I can use it in FS1 where there is no equivilant of the "no colide invisible" flag... It needs to be removed from LOD's 1 through 3, and i'd like it to be sent to me in .pof form, so i could avoid having to convert it...

Any takers? Should be simple, though I lack the skils needed...

What's the point of people responding to a message and all they give is a smilie of some variety. I've seen that on a variety of occasions and seems quite pointless from what I can see, because the 3rd messages is more often than not "whaddy mean by that?"

[q]From DG's PM:

Right, this model has issues. I'm never touching it ever again. Quite frankly you need one of the POF gods to look at this, the hierarchy is FUBAR.
[/q]

Any gods lying around and have 5 minutes?

Well, I can make it so the invisible parts are irrelevant, but I don't know how to line it up so there'll be live debris. If anyone can tell me how, I can convert it.  Live debris is something I think has evaded us.

the invisible parts must not exist though, thats the only problem... I doubt that it will end up being destroyed though, so debris are secondary...

Well, the invisible parts _have_ to be there, because they are the parent object.

But I have a work-around so it's not a problem. Now, if you don't need debris, I can do it, yeah. I'm pretty sure atleast.  I'll try it now.

Edit: Wait... this thing need to have destroyable bits or not? Cuz if it's just scenery, it'd be easy as pie (mmm pie) to convert over like that...

well, it is going to have an orion in it, which is under attack as it leaves, but i doubt it will end up being destroyed...

Good enough?

Edit: Bugger rar's aren't valid attachments... Grr

Hold on for an uploaded file.

Enjoy. Only thing is, it's FS2 format, you'll have to convert it to FS1, but I'm sure you know how. :)

Lol... I didn't need credit... But w00t anyway. ;)  Modelview opens it for me...

You'll notice if you look at it head on, in the top right section of the ring is an invisible cube. I cheated by making the original object really tiny, and hiding it within the geometry of the rest. :D

ok, thats fine... I just can't seem to open any models that i didn't open yesterday... that simply means i can't convert them to fs1, or make sure i have all the textures extracted...

well, modelview works... Now to test it in game... I ended up using build 16 instead of my usual 28...

EDIT: figures... build 28 doesn't thave the pof converter/editor to make it a fs1 pof... :sigh:

OK, redownload it. I would also like to note that I had PCS import the original pof data so paths and everything should be correct. :)

yep, works fine, except the little cube that is the new parent object, is the only thing that is bracketed (other then subsydtems) when it is targeted... And since the cube moves around at different LODs, its like targeting 'Wheel of Fortune'... :p But i can live with it...

So make it untargettable.

Yeah, sorry about that, it's just that the cube needed to be there, and I wasn't sure if putting it in the very center would be a good idea...

i can easily make it untargetable, but what is funny, is when you fly at it and its LODs change, the little cube moves from one peice to the other :D
