Title: Possibly a bug - Head Anis
Post by: Black Wolf on December 21, 2003, 07:07:54 am
Ever since I flicked my copy of FREDOpen (Version R) Over to saving in Retail FS format, all my messages from pilots are using the death head anis. I say it's only probably a bug, because the misison I'm working with isn't particularly clean, and I recall a smiliar bug using standard FRED awhile back.

Fortunately, this isn't a showstopper, so I can test and finish my mission, but I still think it's pretty serious. At least I get to try out Mantis I s'pose.

I noticed that in Homesick but I thought it was Blaise Russel who screwed up. :)

Hmm. I'll have to see if this happens when I'm playing an MG mission.

Got that as well, didn't know what caused it though....

Back to FS_open we go....

my guess would be something with Kazan's improvements to the species handeling

I don't recall it in Homesick, but AFAIK it's impossible to screw up this way, as you can't select what type of head Ani the message will use... I think

I wish I could. This is for that Experiment misison though, the one I posted on internal that always booted me out of FSO. Besides, if possible I want to make OR Vanilla FS compatible.

This is the very first bug I discovered right at the beginning when I began using FS_open. I can hardly belive you haven't discovered this bug yet.

No, I found it quite obvious you all know about this. I thought the fix of this bug was in progress.

It's not a well known fact but in fact you can. The information is in the FS2 Reference guide and I've never seen it written elsewhere but according to that once you choose the ani file if you click on it and then add a number 1-3 immediately after the name you get to pick which ani is displayed

e.g  Pick Head-TP5 and you get no choice. The game will choose what it feels is most appropriate. Change that to Head-TP53 and you get the pilot being killed. The same goes for the command ones except it only changes how active the guy is (since there is no ani for command heads being killed)

Hmmm... It's messy, but if it'll solve the problem... Cool :) I'll give it a go now. Add that to the Wiki though, could be very useful until this bug gets fixed.

I don't know if it solves the bug. I'll have to try it :)

It's more a useful piece of general information :D

This bug has been around since FS1, but we haven't figured out what causes it yet.
