Post by: Akalabeth Angel on December 24, 2003, 03:47:31 pm
What formula is used to determine the maximum potential damage of a beam weapon?

damage x armor/shield/subsystem damage
Can't remember if it takes damage every second or every frame.

Have a look in my FRED FAQ for the link to ZylonBane's Beam FAQ.

I really, truly hate having to say this but Zylon Bane's Beam FAQ is an indespensible resource. In my defence, he wrote it before he turned in to a complete trolling wanker.

Okay, looking at the beam FAQ it says stuff like the LRed has a lifetime of 7.0 seconds. But when I extracted the weapons.tbl from the root.vp it tells me that the lifetime of the LRed is infact 30 not 7. What gives?

The Beam FAQ looks really useful but if it uses differen't numbers than what we find in the weapons.tbl then what's the point?

Most of the normal stuff is irrelevant, $lifetime: is used for pulse weapons and missiles.

Down in the beam info section there's something about how long a beam goes for.
