Right. Hand out your tips, techniques and strategies in sword combat. Because I'm. Stuck.
I'm at the place where you are fighting your father, and this endless line of thingies keep spawning. The camera in this game, most likely it's only flaw, is completely ununderstandable. It simply goes where it wants. So when I want to run away from the father, I end up attacking it. Really.
And I'll probably end up playing until the morning, because if I quit now, It'll be a whole lot of unpleasant traps to play through again.
That aside, it's a superb game.

Kick them in the groin, and run like hell?

What he forgot to add is "Prince of Persia, The"
-
Anyone who has been paying attention to newly released games for the past month would have gotten that.

* Block. A lot.
* You can't kill the father until the soldiers are dead.
* Water source at the other end of the hall. ;)

Water source I figured out. That saved me. Wopee.
On another note, I find it hard to understand what the prince is saying, in cutscenes. The voice is considerably quiter than the effects. And no subtitles.

Is it any good, that game?
That camera thing sounds a lot like the one in dino crisis3... retarded. It's a friggin' shoot, but you have cameras ala resident evil, 'xcept it's 3d so they move, usually in ways that will be troublesome.
-
well.... camera problems aside, once you get the hang of combat, it's about the second best game since freespace.
The graphics are awesome, the animation is best in any game, bar none, everything is sooooo cinematic (even the camera movement stops bothering you after a while, because even if it distracts you a bit, it's just soooooo cool).
In short, it's the definition of coolness.
Plus, it's made by Jordan Mechner.
-
Is this the PS2 version? I think I'll rent it when I see it at Blockbuster. The commercial they have with the DJ is so kick ass.

BEST. PLATFORM GAME. EVAR.
Venom, this game is worth selling your copy of Freespace to get. Hell, its almost worth selling Iwar2 to get.

So? Since Mechner, made, as far as I know, only two non- prince of persia games ( D generation and, her, some adventure game in a train ), there's nothing to be really excited about...
Anyway, Mike: plateform game? Like jumping from stuff to stuff, then from stuff to stuff, not falling into the spear pit or crap like that? Ah well, no thanks, I hate plateform games.

The two Prince of Persia games are enough.

So, if Alexey Pajitnov came around and announced a new game, you'd **** your pants around because of the name alone? Romero made Daikatana and Mollineux made Gene War and Creation.
And Mechner made prince of persia 3D :p
Get my point? ;)

I have to agree with Venom to a certain degree here. Designer name doesn't count for **** generally. But Venom, I gotta say: I hate platform games. This one, however, is so damn good you have to give it a try.
What is important here is that the studio focused on game play and art and music and NOT on trying to make an innovative or "important" game. The artists, not the focus groups, dictated the way this game would be put together. The result is a truly cinematic and spectacular experience.
The storytelling is spectacular. You're not playing the game. You're the person the Prince is telling his story to. So he's narrating this adventure and you're just kind of visualizing it. When something goes wrong, the Prince stops and says, "Wait, that's not what happened. Where was I?" and you begin again and work your way through. The voice acting is absolutely perfect. Flawless. I do not say that lightly.
What's really cool is that the game fools you. Its so intuitive and well made that it makes you think you're more skillful than you really are. When you finish a massive brawl and your character sheathes the Dagger and his scimitar, you just sit there and think, "I am the MAN." But what you don't realize is that the game is constantly working around you making you fight for the victory but always keeping it in your grasp.
The acrobatics are incredible. Running along a wall--so done before, right?--is spectacular. You begin to think you really could do this stuff yourself. Every move you make, from climbing and jumping to dives and rolls, feels natural.
The camera is freakishly well done. I don't care what anyone says. You can switch between a first person view, a standard third person view, and a "landscape" (zoomed out large area) view. Generally, you'll stay with third person for most things, switching to first person only to look around at details or landscape for an overall idea of what you need to do. I never felt like I had to fight the camera while playing.
I really can't say enough good things about this game.

Bah, sounds like Ninja Gaiden. I'll keep my money for that one :) ( yeah, another old game :D ).

You probably couldn't buy the paper the price label is printed on for the value of Red Faction. That game is truly the worst i have ever played.

It made a damn fine drink saucer though. Lasted at least 6 months before I had to use a knife to get it off my desk.
