The idiocy of some people never ceases to amaze me...
http://paris.indymedia.org/article.php3?id_article=13086
I've been lucky enough to gain perspective that when you create an evil character (Uruk-hai) that resembles native Americans as they have done in the Lord of the Rings films a great deal of cultural and racial alienation will occur.
I mean wtf... That guy is a racist himself if he thinks that...
-
i saied once i say it again this planet is full of MORONS! and it SHOULD be whiped out ... NOW!
-
Meh.....
I don't know who's post was that but anyway:

:)

The movie is just a story, and from what I can hear, its a damn good one at that. The Only racialism here is what this person wanted to percieve rather than the writer's intent.
Bet he sees the same in most movies, in some form or the other.
-
LOTR is not racist it's fantasy world so,e peoples are just stupid
-
People like that should be shot.
People like that are the biggest racist of them all - for they see racism in everything and only kindle the fires of racism more

correction, people like that should have a chimmney-sweep shoved up their arse, incinerated... THEN shot..
-
When you look hard into the water, you only see your own reflection.
I noticed that all the good guys were white, and the bad guys on darker skin tone. To which I thought "myeh"
-
Hmm White orc's no thanks usualy Orcs are black or green
-
Um.. his email address...
[email protected]
If any of you want to rant at him.
-
OMG OMG OMG! ...;)
Isn't it weird how when wizards get better they get whiter? And when they get more evil they turn black? Perhaps in an ideal world everything should be white, isn't that right Tolkien?
Nice try Hitler.
-
okay i take like this
Holy powers=white
Dark powers=Black
it's been always like that i think
-
What a pile of pish............
(the article, I mean)
-
wait, wait, wait... native americans? :wtf:
Right, now eskimos are officially the only race that hasn't been associated with uruk-hais.

Except that in the movie Saruman remained The White even after turning bad.
The simple fact is that even black people associate black with evil simply because night is black. That's the real reason why good is white and black is evil.

YUO ARE BEING TEH RASICT TO TEH NIGHT TEIM.

LOL Amazing! JRR Tolkein wrote this book during the world wars in a society that was almost purely White European, so it's hardly surprising his characters fit that particular mold. No-one moans about the fact that the Elves are far far closer to the American Indians than the Orcs, but obviously the reviewer at the start of this thread already has pre-concieved racist views of Native Americans. I don't often swear, but what a prick!
-
Now, repeat after me:
LOTR is NOT about rascism.
LOTR is NOT about homosexuality.
LOTR is NOT about the WTC towers.
The previous has been a public service announcement by the TFASA (Tolkien Fans Against Stupid Assholes) commitee.
-
I said this on spacebattle but it's worth repeating here.
Can you imagine how people of skin color, of Persian, Arab and East Asian ethnic background feel when they come out of these films where all the heroes are white and all the "evil doers" are of dark skin.
Who the **** does this white man think he is to tell me what I should feel when I watch LotR? I'm of Persian extraction (well at least on my fathers side) and I didn't feel at all offended by that film.
I'm sick of white people telling me that I should find something offensive because someone has the same colour skin as I do. It's actually far more offensive than the thing that they were complaining about.
For a start it's a fantasty film and there are films that portray real Iranians in a far worse light that LotRs ever could. But instead of *****ing at them he has a go at LotR because it's a big name movie and so the publicity seeking arsehole can get himself a wider exposure.
Lets not also forget that the bad guy who gets the most screen time in films 1 & 2 is a white guy, with white hair wearing white!
-
Not to mention the elephant riding mercenaries that resemble the cultures of the Arab world as well as Africa, Persia and East Asia
that's because elephants are from Africa, Persia, and Asia (http://www.warpstorm.com/images/smilies/thwak.gif)
(Uruk-hai) that resembles native Americans
(http://www.a-arca.com/d10/artigos/images/big_urukhai.jpg)
oh, yeah, those two look absofreakinlutely the same! it's like i'm seeing double! :wtf: did this guy even see the movie?
and the rest of the article is just him making racist comments against white people.

The saddest thing about this is that the whole movie is about people resolving their differences and coming together against a common enemy.
Gimli: I never thought I'd die side by side with an Elf.
Legolas: What about side by side with a friend?
Gimli: Aye. I could do that.
How could this guy have missed the point so completely?

Sadly someone did. A guy started a petition about how the 2nd movie should be renamed because The Two Towers was obviously an attempt to cash in on the destruction of The Twin Towers.
-
[color=66ff00]Anyone any idea of where he lives? I'll post an0n to him first class.

yeah, but it's usually ignorant people that say that... as if a book written 60 something years ago is trying to cash in on the WTC incident?
anyway, other reviews that have amused me include that the third movie particularly was full of "homosexual elements", and that the "spider" scene didn't belong in the movie, it should be in Harry Potter.
i need to go dig up the reviews i read
-
I think he may have been joking (not certain but I've heard people say that) but you should have seen the number of people who didn't realise that and signed on.
People are stupid when it comes to this sort of thing. For a long time I've been tempted to circulate a rumour about how John Williams is obviously an al-Qaeda agent (because you can quite clearly hear the choir sing Osama at two points of the StarGate theme tune) just to see how far it would go.
The only reason I haven't bothered is cause I'm sure there would be people who'd take it too far.

[color=66ff00]Ignorant?!? Utter utter ****head more like!
I don't think I've been this shocked by the level of idiocy humanity can reach. Lets hope his new years resolution is to think before stating something so perfectly and sublimely cretinous.
ARRRRH! :hopping:

You didn't know? Tolkien's real name is actually Nostradamus :p

People are stupid, and from what I've seen most stupid people are from America...can't wait until I'm old enough to move outta this dump...:p
-
i have a throery about that....I reckon the US has the same average percentage of idiots as other countries. but, because it's such a big country, there are so many idiots that they can plumb even greater depths of, well, idiocy. And it's obvious because there's more free speech / greater access to media like the internet than in the other huge countries like China or India.
-
HAY W3 R KNOT DUM W3 R k00l!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111oneoneoneoneoneoneone
But seriously now, some people are just plain dumbasses. Nuff said.

I don't believe it's just that. There are plenty of other people online from other countries so America shouldn't getting as dreadful press as it gets. I think there are two main reasons that it has such a lunatic/idiot percentage.
1. America was founded by people fleeing religious persecution in the old world. While that's a nobel cause it does mean that every crackpot who could afford it jumped on a ship and went there.
2. America celebrates stupidity in a way other countries don't. In america being bright isn't seen as as much of a goal as being popular/beautiful. Look at who they elected president! The man is obviously not that smart and yet he got in. Ronald Regan did the same dispite obviously not playing with a full deck.
In most other countries we like people who govern us to be smart.
-
And they like the people they govern to be thicker then them. Everyone's a winner.

Hive mind theory! W00t :D

In these times when a homicidal maniac from Texas (the Texas capital punishment policy under Bush) has stolen the American throne and called for a "crusade" against the "evil doers" in nations that white people have been invading, terrorizing, raping and pillaging in for 5000 years with zero provocation, I think we could manage some cultural sensitivity in our popular culture which one must acknowledge has a powerful propaganda affect on the general population that participates in it.
Incredible, he even manages to make a connection between LotR and the war in Iraq. :D
Of course there are redeeming images and ideas portrayed in the films such as the Ents protecting the forests by destroying the industrial military complex as well as the fact that white people can be turned to evil to join forces with all the evil dark skinned man flesh eating Orcs and Uruk-hai.
Hmmm...I guess what he's trying to say is that war is bad and we should all be friends with evil dark skinned man flesh eating Orcs and Uruk-hai. :D
-
Exorbitantly unbelievable stupidity.
-
In America there are SOME smart people...but we'll never outweigh the dumbasses.:D

Somebody e-mail him the link to this post!

I don't think these reviewers actually know what they are doing nor do they know what Lord of the Rings is nor do the even get the point of the whole story. I'd be shocked if any of these reviewers had read the books either....because they just don't seem to get the movie.
Instead what we typically get with these "experts" is their opinion and they are excellent at writing their opinion and thats pretty much it. To me, a good review is where the reviewer has knowledge of the subject he or she is reviewing can successfully relate to it and then point out what elements were good and which were not.
For all the cultural sensitivity that is being preached about I don't see one shred of it in this review. The source is totally invalid and completely mistaken in his view - fortunately its just as easy for one of us to publish a review as it is someone like that.
-
Not to mention that saying the Urak'hai are like native Americans isn't very nice either...
-
Jesus, can't these reviewers keep things straight? It was Star Wars: The Phantom Menace that was jam-packed with racist stereotypes!
-
Of course, all those pictures of the Vatican are really telling everybody to be catholic!
-
Tell you what else - the Haradrim who approached Frodo and Sam outside the Black Gate was pretty pasty under his mask. In Tolkien's writing, men from Harad and Khand are expressly dark skinned (logical since these are hot desert areas). I can only imagine they aren't dark in the film because someone pointed out that people might see the baddies being dark as racist.
Besides which, most of the Men who served Sauron weren't particularly evil, they'd been persuaded, tricked or enslaved in to it.
-
Or maybe Sauron and company were the good guys all along (c'mon, people from all over the world coming to help him?), while Rohan and Gondor are evil, destructive aggressors, and the whole book is a cleverly disguised commentary on propaganda as told from the bad guys' perspective.

Awww, cool! Normally I have to hitch-hike. And anyone who's seen Jay and Silent Bob knows what that entails.
Also, Of-****ing-Course LOTR is racist.
The Orcs are a race. We hate them. Therefore, it's stirring up anti-Orc sentiment and promoting racism.
Simple.
-
****ing Orcs, we had a few move in a couple of months ago and you know what? The cases of cannibalism have skyrocketed.
-
It must be playing havok with property-values.
