Yes Spellforce looks nice but in hindsight I think its a pretty crap game.
-
It looks pretty crappy too.
-
hmm... Cheese...
-
well
since the videos didnt run normally ... they ran video still image sound while still image then cideo etc i installed / uninstalled
-
The game is great. Jsut finished it.
Sure, the voice acting is mediocre at best.
Sure, it was hurried and has some bugs.
But it's still one of the best games I played...
LOOKS CRAPPY? That's not a rpg - that's a strategy/rpg/adventure mix
You want better graphics when you have about 100 units on the screen + terrain + buildings...????
-
Forces of Light-- can anybody say "ent"?
-
Ent...? Though i dunno how thats relevant.
-
He refers to the Elf Titan (the Ent) in the background...
So, to sumarize Spellforce:
- you can control six races (Humans, Elfs, Dwarfs (the Godd races), and Orcs, Trolls and Drak Elves (the Evil races))
- you can control all 3 races of one side simultaniously
- you create a avatar that leads your armies, he gets experience, levels up and can be equipped with everything you find/buy (I mean really equipped - everything can be seen on the model)
- and lot's of other stuff bt I gotta dash now..
-
Rip off from Warcraft 3 with the RPG part more developed. :( Had lots of potencial... but it failed to deliver what it was suposed to do (a more RPG like strat game... I felt it was less of an RPG than Warcraft 3 for crying out loud!!!).
There are 2 things I like about this game (not to say the only ones), seems to be based on LoTR (except on the dark elves part)
and the storyline (Intro cutscene was great).
But to get hooked on this game... you really need to be desperate :sigh:
-
Looks pretty bog-standard IMO. From what I've heard it's a solid 70%-er.
Still, each to their own. I mean, I hated Rainbow 6, despite the reviews it got.
-
Spellforce? Never heard of it...

Your loss I guess ... And you couldn't be more wrong there - in SF, your avatar is really unique (and in War 3 all are the same) and the RPG part is better
But to get hooked on this game... you really need to be desperate :sigh:
Some people would say the same for FS2...so that arguments stinks o the heavens
-
Played demo and well Spellforce it's mo that good
i could give it 67% if i review it
-
Read my post more carefully,
I said it's RPG part was more developed than War3 but by playing it sooner or later you realise you can have that much control over the character (avatar) although in War3 you didn't have too. :doubt:
The problem is that they didn't make a good strategy game nor a good RPG... they just stayed in the middle of nowhere... while in War3 the strategy part prevailed.
As for my last comentary, sorry if I came too strong with that... and another thing... I am desperate to find an better "almost arcade like non-rpg space sim" than FS2 :D
So until I do... FS2 will have to do :p

Tachyon: The Fringe and Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos come to mind immediately. ;)
-
I still say that Spellforce is loads better than WAR3...
-
Looks pretty nice. Not jawdropping, though, for reasons you've already pointed out (unit mass on screen at any given time).

Not with such a lame art design, sorry.

Rome: Total War will have better graphics. Pity it's been pushed back 'bout a year... :doubt:
-
Can see it on the telly, tho. Well, you could[/d], but I think the series is finished.

Looks like Sacrifice to me, except Sacrifice looks better.

Some bugs? You can't play more than 10 minutes straight without crashing, however you can decrease the crash rate to 1 in 45 minutes if you switch on vsync (dunno what vsync has to do with mesh load errors).
Uhm... usually people rant about what makes a game crap but since I don't see anything that could redeem Spellforce I'd like to hear what makes the game so great in your eyes

Too bad they didn't scale Minas Tirith right :(
-
yeah you are right
-
what game is that by the way?
Oh... want something with good graphics and more than 100 units on screen plus terrain + buildings? What strategy games have you been playing?
Every RTS that has been released now can have more than 100 on screen!!! (at least those I've played)
Find an recent RTS with good graphics and I assure you it can have more than 100 units. Then, come here and tell us. :D
P.S. There are exceptions to the rule where the units are too large to fit in the screen.

In that game it looks like the orcs could just jump over the walls of Minas Tirith.
-
Bah... It hasn't been released yet... stop teasing! :D
-
Hmmm...I prefer to wait and see before I pass my judgment.
And the models or the buildings don't look any more detailed than those from SF...
-
spellforce? more like crapforce to me
-
The interface and general feeling of "hey, I've seen this before!" makes KT's eyes hurt.
