Title: Game Controllers Panel On WinXP
Post by: karajorma on January 01, 2004, 07:16:46 am
I've just reinstalled my Thrustmapper joypad for the first time since I upgraded to Win XP. The problem is that it's put itself right at the top of the list of installed game controllers in the Game Controllers panel.

The result of this is that games like B5:IFH etc all expect the gamepad to be my joystick instead of my Wingman Force 3D.

In WinME I could just assign the joypad to a different controller ID but WinXP doesn't seem to have this option so is there anyway to make the joypad into my secondary controller (like it should be!)

Go to your joystick panel and click on advanced, select your main Joystick as your preferred device, that way it will default to the Joystick and only use the gamepad if selected.

If you mean the Select device for use with older games option I've already done that and it had no effect the Wingman Force is still being treated as Joystick 2 instead of joystick 1.

Hmmmm... I'm pretty sure we are doing the same thing here but what I mean is.....

Start > Settings > Cont. Panel > Game Controllers > Advanced (Button)

There should be a preferred device setting there, if that doesn't work, i'm afraid I'm stuck :(

That's the one I'm on about. Didn't do anything. I've only tried it in a couple of games so far but everything treats the wingman as Joy 2. My only option other than redefining the keys for every joystick game I play is to unplug the joypad whenever I play them. That's not hard but it will rapidly get annoying.
