I'm doing some updates on the fs1 weaponry from the port for my own little world, and I thought I'd release them.
(I suck at taking screenshots)

Anyway, I've done most of the other weapons, but I'm going to wait for a response from this to help me decide if I'm going to finalize them.
Also, this one isn't final either, post your suggestions.:)
I'm looking for ways to improve the Avenger as well, so far I've just done a bit different sound and it now carries 4000 rounds but uses no weapons energy (actually, next to none).

Doesn't quite feel like the Prometheus should. It's by far not massive enough :)
I'm really looking forward to the FS1 specific weapons, since then (once i've completed my FS2 weapons) we have a complete set of new weapon effects ;)

I'm going to release the Avenger next, but I need to know what people want out of it. Also, it'll come with the fs1 ship table entries (from the port, but modified with the fs1 tech descriptions and ballistic primary enabled).
Right now I'm working on a new graphic for it.

I want something fresh... new....
if you look at the weapons the Prometheus and Avenger look identical, only that one is yellow whereas the other's green. The Banshee almost looks like the disruptor. And the disruptor again, looks almost like the ML-16.
Get in some variety, while still remaining on the basic concepts.

Avenger should be a sharp (maybe pointy?) piercing pulse. IMO it was the best all around gun in FS1. I loved it.

What happened to .ani's being supported as weapon's bitmaps? I always wanted to do one for the Banshee...

ANIs are not supported for laser bitmaps, neither for glows.
However, you can fool it with the Particle Spew code which DOES support ANIs.

Anyway, I'm doing it with particle spew now, but thanks for the idea anyway.

I can't remember who, but someone a couple of months back was discussing trying to convert weapons like the ML-16 and VLL-9 into actual lasers, by basing them off beams. They'd have a low fire duration to match the original weapons specs, and they'd have no "pierce" flag, but the only real change would be since the shots hit the target instantaneously so you wouldn't lead your target to fire. I remembered this, since the balistic primary Avenger was also discussed in that thread.
On the subject of the Avenger, is it possible with balistic primaries, to have the number of shots you can carry vary depending on what ship you're flying? For example, a Herc could cary more than a Valkyrie, right?

Yeah, making them beams. That was me.:D I ditched that idea, althought I still have them around here somewhere if you want them.
EDIT: Like I said in another thread around here somewhere, I've been throwing around ideas for a while.
I tried to make different fighters carry more, and it didn't work. I think no matter what size you put as the PBank size, it automatically assumes 1. I may be wrong though.

I really liked the idea Solatar, though I understand that you have "other" duties as well as real lifeā¢.
IIRC it was supposed to be a Mechwarriorish laser.
You aim it, pull the trigger and the beam comes out for the fraction of the second and you have to wait until it recharges - the fact that there is a delay between the laser firing and you pulling the trigger gives a chance to avoid fire.
Making the pulselaser would be another nice touch and would explain the small reload times - however you wouldn't be able to hold down the trigger and spray and pray - the gun would overheat eventually.

The avenger shouldn't be balistic... It is destinctly an energy weapon compared to the flail, where it states it is a mass weapon...

The Avenger is a cannon. it "fires 45mm rounds" meaning it's a gun. The Flail is a krypton laser, but it has a high mass.

Anyway, the Avenger needs a vastly greater rate of fire. The tech room states that it fires 4500 rounds per minute.

I don't think you would notice it....it's more like the special "iron-wall" guns developed recently - 5 or more bullets were loaded one after another in the same barrel, so I think this is a gatling version of the said gun.
Each shot delivers roughly 15-30 bullets following each other by mere centimeters, so the gun quickly delivers bursts of caseless ammunition.
Therefore the actual firerate is not that high.

The avenger is an energy weapon. Some fool over at [V] simply forgot to change the description.

Well, doesn't matter if some fool forgot to change all the .ani's referring to the Avenger, and the tech description's about it to an energy cannon, [V] said it was a cannon, and you can see plainly it's a gun in the .ani's, and that's what we're going after.

Forgot to add that I'm using a FOV of 0.42. As soon as I finish all the weapons, I'll go through and make them look better for the original FOV.
Sorry...might be why I think the Prometheus looks big, while Lightspeed thinks it doesn't.

I do not like that Banshee. It looks like a long ... weird... line, or something; It's really hard to make out in that incredibly low-res screenie.
You should keep the shots visible, so its not just a line. Why? simple. If you turn your view while shooting that effect will look horrible. (and i prefer single shots anyway) ;)
The trail also needs more alpha percentage at the main glow of the shot, and should fade out to 0.0 at the end (it should also get smaller there) - I really like the glow bitmap. Make it a bit larger and boost the contrast to give it a 'more powerful' look. Like it is now it looks weaker than the ML-16 :)
The basic idea (shape of the glow + trail) is good though, just needs some tweaking.

why isn't the banshee in fs2 if it was the strongest fighter-mounted cannon in fs1?
or did the GT(V)A scrapped them because of the "poor sportsmanship" feedback?
i loved the valkyrie with a banshee loadout, banshees rule.

also, the banshee didn't fire that fast right?
I thought they were long, thin trails instead of laser shots like the ml-16

Because the banshee became out of date, like the Interceptor missile, ML-16, etc, etc. Banshee was the best name for a laser in the whole Fs series, though.

Even the Prom S is a bit more powerful than the original Prometheus.

The Prometheus is actually a bit better than the Banshee - the later is the ultimate shield scrapper.
Since Shivans hadn't had too much armor in FS1 that could be the reason why the Banshee kicked ass - against GTVA craft its far from being that effective - and they lacked the noble gases to produce anymore proms.
That's why they came up with the subach.

The banshee took to much energy, that's why it was scrapped.

Banshee was probably scrapped in favor of the S-Breaker + hull damaging weapons.
