argh... Those *****es over at KaZaA shut down Kazaa Lite.
Now where am i supposed to find my pr...uh stuff i cant get anywere else?
Anyway, i unistalled my KL++ before i learned of its shutdown. Now i cant find it anywere.
So could anyone link me to the latest version or e-mail it to me?
-
Shut down, eh? Until what, they rename it?
-
Oh come on. When Napster went tits up every one turned to Kazaa. When Kazaa started charging and generally being gay, everyone turned to K-Lite (or had already). Even if they do somehow wipe out KL, which is impossible, how long do you think it will take for a replacement to spring up?
-
The irony level of all this is off the charts.
-
I was thinking the same thing.
-
Cool, they disappeared (http://www.kazaalite.tk/) Kazaa Lite :D
-
I heard about this a while ago. It only means that Kazaa Lite can't be distributed anymore, not that they're shutting down the existing network. But it will get distributed anyways, thanks to warez sites, Bit Torrent and oh yeah, Kazaa.
And since when does Kazaa charge for their service? I've never heard of that, where is your info comming from DG?
-
Too bad I don't have Kazaa, I'd like to do a search for Kazaa Lite and see how many hits I get.:D

How so?
-
The way I see it, Kazaa almost solely exists to distribute illegal stuff, like software. Now they're trying to stop somebody putting out an illegal version of theirs.
-
/*put's KL installer into 'my shared folder' and runns Kazaa*/
ya'll need to look into overnet/e-mule
-
K++ still works you know......
Just keep the intaller.
-
Solatar: What their software can be used for is irrelevant. They're not liable for it, after all. However, they profit off of Kazaa hence it is in their best interest to keep Klite dead. Normal behavior.
*uses mldonkey to access fasttrack/DC/edonkey/overnet/whatever so doesn't care about the issue*
Oh, and bittorrent owns too.

Here (http://www.kazaa.com/us/index.htm). Forgot they were still offering a free version, but then that one's got more adverts and spy-ware in it than actual file-sharing stuff. Not much of a choice.

Bittorrent's only good for up to date files, files like recent anime releases. But you'll never find old eps on bittorrent.
-
Yeah, but unless the anime is rather popular it'll be hard to find eps anyway. I just buy the dvds off of ebay for those.
-
Ahh..the joys of being a packrat...
I believe I will be uploading both the vanilla KLite and the latest version of K++ and linking.

Even old stuff gets re-seeded from time to time. I am perfectly happy with just bittorrent.
-
**Cough** Usenet **Cough**
I honestly see no reason at all to use a piece of crap like Kazaa, I mean there are way better peer to peer alternatives, WinMX and Soulseek take Kazaa outside and give it a good shoeing and Emule (or any variants on it) is pretty good too.
-
So whats the best P2P software out there at the moment? And why is it the best? (I don't know why WinMX is better than KazaaLite... enlighten me :))
-
Kazaa is the only one I can use coz it's the only one where I'm not forced to share files. Btw, before being flamed, it's not I don't share files coz I don't want to, but because as soon as someone starts downloading anything from my PC, my ubber crappy DSL modem crashes... Trust me I'd rather share my files and have stuff come faster.
-
Soulseek? I did a google search it pointed me at http://www.slsk.org/ (http://www.slsk.org/) and then attempted to download something to my computer when I clicked on the FAQ. I don't think I trust their comment about it being free of spyware somehow.
-
Azureus is the best Bittorrent client. I don't need any other P2P software.
-
people might pay $30 for a better version of KaZaa if they put on that list 'SPYWARE FREE!!! If you pay CyDoor will NOT be installed on your computer!!! Now don't we care?'
-
Its may be just me, but I have always found Usenet, Gnutella (the the zillion variations thereof), Emule and the various other P2P programs to be too hard to use. I have so far used Direct Connect, Kazaa and Bit Torrent and I have found BT to be the most useful for my purposes. If you know where to look, and by now the community is so big that you should, then you will have no trouble finding the things you need.
What do I care if 600 different versions of a movie can be found on Kazaa, when I only need one and I need it to go fast. Thats why i prefer BT.
-
While we're dicussing clients what's good for Usenet. I like it a lot but XNews is beginning to annoy me cause it's slowly getting more and more unstable.
-
eDonkey + www.shareactor.com = yellow brick road to ware...um....stuff
meh, but where can i find the latest version of KL++???

It's not, content wise. The only thing I've ever been able to find as well on WinMX as I have on Kazaa is music. Everything else seems to fall short.
-
This is true. And I've tried using LimeWire to surf the Gnutella networks with no real results
-
usenet/overnet/emule seems to be oriented largly around full movies and eppisodes of entier seasons of TV shows
-
Thats just it, I tried WinMX earlier today but it came up with nothing like the decent number of results that KLite came up with...
-
Well, say what you want, but I still can't get a result for naruto 65  ( well, that's not true, there's one 1.6 mb file and another one that ended up being a La Bluegirl episode :doubt: )
-
Just because it exists, doesn't mean it'll be there - if it's rare already there's a small change anyone will look, download and spread it further.
-
overnet shows five posables
-
I prefer K++'s system of availability for DL's... emule is so flooded with users that downloading anything takes a year and a day...
-
yes it is slow, but it has a lot of stuff

[color=66ff00]Weird I get almost all of the kind of stuff I'm looking for; seen Farscape, BSG, SAAB, B5, Batman TAS and a lot of others. I guess it depends on where you get your torrents from. Certain places have the facility to post requests and the torrent community is quite good in that respect.
Bittorrent is the best P2P program that I've used in a long time.

-
Ok, clarification needed...from what little I read of BT, it requires one to upload at the same speed as you download. In other words, on my 1.5mbit/96kbit (down/up) ADSL, I'd be limited to a 96kbit download under ideal circumstances?

Yeah, but Naruto is hardly rare.
-
[color=66ff00]No, if you intentionally restrict your bandwidth then your download speed will be reduced. If your scenario was the case then the last downloaders of a torrent would never get the file as there is nobody to upload to.
It's more of a generalised thing, you restrict your upload and you restrict your download, it's not a 1:1 ratio.
Hmmm, not very clear I guess but I can't think of a better way to put it ATM. (I need sleep :) )

It wouldn't be on my system right now if it had spyware. It's got an ok UI but it doesn't hog resources like Kazaa does and you can find plenty of things on there. It's worth checking out that's for sure.

WinMx has been slowly dying for years since they closed Napsters servers but it's quite good for finding rare stuff that you're not likely to get elsewhere, unfortunately with most rare stuff though you have to be fairly persistent to find it.
But I mean, Usenet, learn how to use it if you don't know and it's the most consistent thing out there.
-
What newsreader do you use for usenet 01010?
?
-
Mostly I use a great little program called Powergrab (http://www.cosmicwolf.com/) but it's best used for binaries, used to use Agent newsreader but it takes up ridiculous amounts of space if you use it regularly.
-
What I'm mostly after is a binaries program that lets me preview pictures etc without saving them the hard drive. There's a lot of crap on Usenet and I don't particularly want to have to sift through crap on my hard drive as well! :)
-
BT, I generaly get 3-30 up (usualy 10) and 10-150 down (usualy 30-60)
-
21 days remaining for one video... :doubt:
-
useing what?
it might take a while for the speeds to get moveing
for overnet I generaly don't get more than 12kbs, though it has gotten above 130 on rare ocation
-
eMule... It's the first episode of Stardust Memory. And although the file is quite large, It's one of 13 consecutive episodes...

As far as I know Outlook Express lets you do that, but then, I don't see why you'd really want to use it unless you have no choice, Powergrab is really just a binary grabber so you don't even have basic messaging functions let alone previews. :)
-
well just leave it running while you try to find it by other means
-
call me a fool but i have never heard of Bit Torrent i have used KL++ and it works fine for me.
-
f00!

No. You don't need to upload with the same speed as you download or anything like that. As long as you upload with reasonable speed and reasonable time AFTER you have finished your download so others can get the pieces they need.
Say, you can download 80 KB/sec but upload only 20 KB/sec. It's ok as long as you share the file reasonable time after you have finished it.
Nico: I don't follow Naruto but I looked for it, found all the way up to ep 64 as BT downloads. I suppose 65 is not yet subbed?
-
Bah, what's up then? There's alwas been one episode a week :/
Then again, there's be Xmas and the new year eve... :p

I've tried a whole load of newsreaders so far and XNews is the only one that seems to have that feature as well as dealing with Yenc. Since OE can't deal with YEnc the feature would be useless half of the time.

There's been a lot less released subs lately.

The way it works is: You connect to the Tracker. The Tracker keeps note of everyone who's currently downloading the file (or has finished downloading and left their torrent-window open). You then download chunks of a file from other people in random-order, depending on what chunks they've already downloaded.
So if someone has a chunk you need, the Tracker says "Hey, you, give that guy chunk 1754". It does this so you can download some of the file from people who haven't got the complete file themselves yet.
And your uploading fluctuates depending on how many/which chunks you've got and which/how many other people have.
So if there are 40 people just starting to download the file and you've already got 90% of the file from whomever started it, you'll be doing alot of uploading. But if you've got 10% and there are 40 people who've already got 90% then you'll be downloading really fast.
This is why people are always screaming "Leave your torrents open!!!!".
The more complete files on a torrent, the less it has to suck BW from people still downloading and the more chance of finding a chunk you need on a non-clogged source.
But generally, on a torrent with a decent number of people on it, you'll get about a 10:3 ratio.

"> No Naruto this week!
Naruto normally airs on a Wednesday in Japan, but not on New Year's Eve. So the next episode (#65) will air on January 7.
Therefore don't expect any fansubs of it before then. The airing schedule of some other anime may also be affected."

hargh
Can't wait for a DVD release so I don't have to deal with crappy fansubs anymore :doubt:.
