If you look at the beginning FS1 intro where Lt. Ash is piloting his ship, and at the terran tech room animation, you'll see that there is a cockpit, and that there is a small glass square in the middle. look closer. That is the HUD. If you were to look at that and have it take up your whole FOV, you wouldn't see any of the cockpit. The only way for a cockpit to make sense is to make the HUD only take up a small amount of space on the screen, making it impossible to read anything.
-
... uh huh..
Did they put in cockpits or something (:wtf: ) or are you just rambling? :p
-
It's from the post 3.6 thread... I'm not bothered as long as they can be turned off either from the launcher or in-game :)
I still think they should be included though, if done right, they would be brilliant, but I usually turn the cockpit off if possible on any 'flight' game.

yeah, we've already noticed ( well, I, at least ), but then again:
1) the pilot couldn't read what's there either
2) you see approx 1/89 of the radar
3) imagine the pilots positiopn to see the same stuff as us
4) they just put the HUD there coz, well, it IS a HUD, and they probably didn't feel like making another one.
It wouldn't be for the still pics, nobody would have never noticed anyway.

Wow!!
Nice pic.....

So that's what you wanted that hud screeny for. :D

i want features like those in combat flight sim 3, such as padock mode, virtual cockpits, and gauges. hud would be rendered upon a transparent piece of glass in the cockpit model. every ship could have its own model, or use a default model. sence the hud is rendered in 3d instead of being an overlay, you could jack up the resolution and i think reading the hud would not be a problem. you could use the 2 different huds as lods, using the larger hud as high level and the lowres hud as a low level hud. it would be cool, but we need more texture options first.
-
The GTVA might have changed the HUD to display across the whole cockpit.
-
maybe there should be a toggle button for it like so:

Um. The radar, target box and stuff wouldn't be projected on to a HUD - they'd be gagues built in to the instrument panel. Only the targeting reticle would actully be on the HUD. So you'd use the curent HUD animations and layout but simply draw a panel around the bottom for the radar and stuff. Course this narrows your FOV a fair bit, so you'd need a full-screen option like any modern flight sim has

Gah, you beat me to it. :)

I think the only thing really needed up there is the reticle, the rest would be inside the actual panels down below.

I knew it - you lot do ignore 99% of my posts

Time you noticed it :D

Eh? Someone say something?

...wha?
