Title: help fs2
Post by: Aryana on January 09, 2004, 12:57:56 am
Print screen doesn't work for the screenshots.Just wondering what file(usually a INI.file) needs modifying to enable screenshots?Good thing i checked the old VWBB forums i would of never found this place.Happy to say FS2 runs fine on the new 64 amd chip-was scared it wouldn't.Pulling 500 g vertical climbs again and passing out from the lack of oxygen!:)

Nothing needs modified.  Screenshots are dumped in your Freespace2 directory as ScreenXX.TGA. where XX starts at 00 and goes to whatever.  You will however need a program like Paint Shop Pro or InfranView to look at them or save them as JPG files to post them on the internet.

Look up a little proggy called Howie's Quick Screen capture. It runs in the background and has configurable controls and outputs :)

I would make sure XP isn't being retarded and putting some obscure icon with TGA files.  I've been using XP Home for a while now and I've never had any problems with screens.

Also, get the SCP build.  They take screenshots in BMP format, not to mention the other gizmos, bugfixes, and cool stuff that has been added. And

You know, that's a good question.  It definitely did for a while.  I think Vanilla FS2 actually outputs pcx files, since that's the only image format the unaltered game engine supports.

XP is always retarded. It's just a matter of degrees.

Win98 works for everything the average user needs, including FS2. If you really need a "modern" OS, I'd like to get some results on how Vanilla FS2 and/or SCP run under Wine or some other emulator on Linux...

XP is not the problem. Mine outputs screen caps perfectly.

Maybe something for the SCP to fix?

I always have to exit the game and paste it into an imaging program...sucks when you want to take loads of pictures in a single mission.

I'm sure it's TGA files.....possibly it's just the quickest to encode and punt out?

I have had FS2 pump out BMPs, PCXs, and TGAs. Damned if I know why. :p Welcome to HLP, Aryana. :)

See? I thought your rule would work too, but it's not consistent. Now that I think of it, it was probably FS1 that put out the PCXs, if anything... but bleh, I really can't remember. :)
