Subject : Wing Commander Saga now hiring !
Hello folks,
Wing Commander Saga is a Freespace 2 Total-Conversion for the famous and
outstanding Wing Commander series.
We have come a long way since the beginning, and with the time we enhanced the project more and more, not only due to the possibilites the SCP-Project give us, but also through the experience we become during our work. Currently we are working on our prologue campaign, beginning of an epic storyline set in the WC3 timeline which will be continued in the release of the main game, which is however still far in the future.
In order to finish off our project, we could use the additional help of the following staffers:
- 2D artists / texturer, who are capable of drawing maps at same quality
level of the other project artwork. See our Screenshot-release-topic for details.
- 2D artists, who could make basic anims for ship/weapon loadout-icons and
briefing-icons
- voice actors
additionaly we are looking for :
- modelers and unwrappers
- mission designers are always welcome
Candidates have to be able to work well with other people and be able to keep a secret.
Here is your chance to prove to the rest of the world that the Wing Commander Community is still more than alive. You can post here, or send me a PM, it is up to you. Tell us your qualifications and why we should take you on. If possible we would appreciate it if you can show us a sample of your work.

Ive got a deep base voice. I speak good english with a slight european accent, swedish chef meets arnold.. ;) j/k not that bad of an accent. ;)

Anyway... I was wondering why Roy Fokker disappeared from us, guess I now know where he went. It's OK but I just wish he would have told us he's leaving the team. Although I doubt he ever finished a single mission for TBP...

It's not like I hold a grudge or anything, it's fine as far as I am concerned. :) We have only one who's solely focused on mission designing, so I don't know which is better. :D The other of your mission designers is probably Darkblade who is also in our team so... :)

Just like the Standoff guys, we're need just a few more voices to round out our voice talent. Previous voice work for another mod like Standoff is preferred, but not absolutely required. Candidates should be serious and be able to sound like someone in their 20s. Openings are for miscellaneous ships and roles, with a strong emphasis on Confed fighter pilots.
To become a candidate for this process, reply to this thread to officially let us know and then PM or email Tolwyn at [email protected] for more information.
Then try your luck on these 26 lines. Voice recording should be done by the Goldwave program, in 44 khz mono. I shouldn't say this, but you guys need your own microphone. Please make sure to eliminate breathing into microphone sounds.
You are free to say your interpretation of the theme as long as it doesn't deviate too far.
1) "All fighters are destroyed, area is secure"
2) "Enemy fighters have arrived"
3) "I'm attacking your target"
4) "We're the backup and we've arrived to save your ass"
5) "Bravo Wing here, we've just arrived"

I'm free most of the evenings this weeks so if I've got the go ahead I can crank out some voices pretty quickly.

I'm sorry for the delay. Recently, I was redesigning my network to incorporate Smoothwall Linux into an old Pentium 1 so I can get my RedHat Server back up. This was painful because the old P1 was very PnP unfriendly and NIC cards don't like address conflicts.
Anyways, I am done and will submit my files to you within 24 hours. Thanks for the opportunity and considering me for the job.

that hurt fury and i did finish one mission for you i believe it was a breif thraining mission (not one of my best works but there you go) and i was down as a consaltant cause i used to take screenshots for you lot within my video was pluged up to my computer and i took shots of the different b5 ships weapons shooting.

Sorry if it sounds... well... noobie, but, what if you don' log off?

On windows IE, the cookies have an expiring date on them, so if I don't use IE within a time frame, it assumes logoff.
However, I learned that all my problems when away if I use Linux. I think there's an internal function that is very unstable in Linux, which this Forum uses. I know that its not the browser, because I have tried Mozilla on Windows. Regardless, I have a server of which I can access a remote desktop with. So if I want to access the forum, I just log into my router via Remote Desktop, and do my thing there. :)

I've not been a big participant in the WC world in several years, though I've been a regular lurker on CIC! I used to do VERY well in their trivia game in the first couple of seasons (you can find me there in the archive of scores).
Anyways...I saw this and I gotta say, I'm EXCITED!!! Doing something that Origin can no longer do (sadly) and doing it freeware!! You guys kick :D major:D ass!:D
I have a question...I'm interested in doing some voice work for you, if you need it, and would like to check whether you need such extra data/work, before putting in a bunch of time writing up versions of your comm. scripts for different personalities/voices.
If you do, I'd be happy to try my best on it and let you see what I can do. Just let me know!

Hey Tolwyn, it's me Star Dragon (my old account had a unknown problem so I asked Thunder to delete it).
What was the bug with Xenthorious??? I am curious cause even after switching to Firefox I still could not access my account (I mertely thought I had been hacked).
Anyway I was curious if the voice acting timetable had been moved up. I'm a little embarressed but I recently lost a canine tooth and well sad to say, as LONG as I have been looking forward to being a part of WC voiceing, any emphised words with S or F dont come out as well as they should... (meaning a fiant lisp is now detected, AARRRGGHHH!)
Is this going to be a problem?

I can do multiple Euro and American accents, plus some others. I can do as many voices as you need, just send me the script. I'm a film and stage actor so I won't sound like a total dork either.

Guys, I know I'm new on these forums but I've been messing with audio gear for some time, as well as playing the big fs2 mods... I check the HLP site daily for new mod news!
I'm tied for time until the end of June due to college commitments, but I may well be able to put some speech material together for you. Are there any guidelines for sample rates, etc.?
I might also be able to get a female pilot too ;)

Hello all,
Just signed up here when i saw what you were doing. I loved the WC series and am so excited you guys are working on it. I saw the many people willing to be voice actors and i would like to lend myself if i may. I'm 22 and have a good understanding of the spirit of WC's immersive nature. I'm told i'm fairly competent with impressions and accents.
However.... I don't have the program you've specified. Is it possible to submit recordings from protools converted to .wav files?
Keep up the awesome work fellas, can't wait for the release.

Indeed, there are still a few email in my mailbox, that have to be reviewed, it is very likely that your aplication is among those.
There are two reason why it takes so long:
1. I had to pass my final exams (Abitur)
2. All roles for the prologue have been completed, only after the release of R1 we will fill the gaps in the main campaign.

I've been lurking these forums for a while now so I thought I'd at least try to make myself useful. I really like this mod, the team and everyrthing you're doing. I'm sure it will be the most popular thing in the franchise since Prophecy. Anyway I've been playing space sims for the better part of my life and think I have a pretty good idea what makes missions fun and challenging (even though the two usually don't go together.) I would be honored to do some mission design work.

I've also been playing space sims for the best part of my life (especially the Wing Commanders 3 & 4).
I know how to make missions in FRED fairly well (I havent found anything i want to do that i couldnt) so I can be useful in makeing mission and even designing some.
I'd like to help anyway i can :D

Sorry for the late reply :)
You are free to send your samples in (see first post), but let me say upfront (and no offense meant) that we are usually only give people with deep voice a role. Hard to find, but a must in our opinion. Nevertheless, we also have roles of a few young pilots, so give it a try. But don't be dissapointed, when we not jump on you right away, it could really take a while to sort everything out and compare it to the rest :)

i don't remember seeing if the voice cast ever got finalised. did it? Or is there more likely a focus on getting a prologue campaign out first?

We have indeed focused on the prologue the last 18 months, and we have already collected all the voicelines for that one. But there might still be some roles open in the main campaign. Once the prologue is out, we will focus on that again :)

I think it would be great for saga to use those perticular ships:
Snakeir (super dreadnaught variant), 4000m long: meshes can be found here: http://www.wcnews.com/articles/art32.shtml (click on the sivar: this might do a good snakeir form).
Spikeri corvette, same link, click on spikeri.
And naturally, the usual sivar class dreadnaught (conform to the WC1 shape), and the usual snakeir (carrier version, also conform to WC1).
I would also advise you to include a WC4 kilrathi shuttle.

I doubt that the SWC ship will fit into the story...except as very old ships. SWC takes place during WC1 if I am not mistaken. Wing Commander Saga is about WC3 and a little bit WC2 maybe.
As for the Kilrathi Shuttle...that might be possible. I have created an older model for it some time ago. Maybe it will be used maybe not...its a secret you know ^_^

The snakeirs (both super dreadnaughts and carriers) are still used in the WC2 era (as standoff demonstrates), and the spikeri may be used as a gunboat. They might do great ships.
tolwyn: sorry about the PM. Besides, I thought you were the one to told me the ships interested you...

Also, please note: those perticular SWC meshes did not serve in SWC, they were abandoned. They are most interesting to "re"use though.

In that case, I just hope for the best, But if you guys come up with those ships, I think it might well serve as yet another attraction argument for saga, after all, who ever fighted a "super" snakeir.
Yet, as you say, time is a fierce enemy.

Or in that case, why not include a mission editor ALONG with a ship editor? This way should the gamers want to create the spikeri, the super snakeir or even the agon ra sivar, they would do so without any problems.
so, what do you say? this might be simpler.

There is no ship editor per se. First, a model is to be created in 3d editor (for example, 3d studio max, 100 USD - student version), painted, etc, etc, etc. Only then the model can be converted to the game format.

Where do these models come from?
Some of them look good, and some are really out there, like the cat capships, especially the sivar, fralthi and ralari and the draymen.

They were unused designs for SWC.
Do you think ithere might be one day another MOD launched following the movie storyline? (pre wc1) (I don't mean necessarily by you, I understand you're quite busy). But I just hope that such a mod (Wing commander 0, or prologue?) we would be able to feature the biginning of the kilrathi encounters from the iason incident up to the custer carnival. This might also be a good omen to introduce the ships (spikerii and "super"snakeir) I previously talked about since they make an appearance in that era.
Anyway, those are just my ideas, naturally so don't take them too seriously, but I figured those particular obscure battles would be interesting to live through a video WC game.
Anyway, to thank you for what might become one day one of the best WCmods, I thought you might have a good laught at this:

the game is called star hammer and it's very close in spirit as to what promisses wc battlestations. I think you'll enjoy it. (the ship even slightly looks like a hornet).
For the collectors among you, the game has a prequel named starfire. You can get it here: http://www.savefile.com/projects/1054963 but this one's a classic vertical shooter.

Indeed, FS flakcannons are great. However, we focused on WC3 gameplay and there are no flak cannons. WC2 ships will be fairly seldom in the mod, so it's unlikely to see any flak cannons firing at you :(

For my part the current AA defance is good enough. The turret AI is quite capable and so gives a good defance without the flak.
