That's one of about 10 major features available.
Only two real limitations: You must register before January 21st, and it lasts for 3 years. Oh, and you can get a domain name for just $6 a year. I've just signed up, so I can't give any info on their tech support's quality, but everything about their site just screams quality - including the admin sections.
Without further ado, I give you...[glow=green]The link (http://order.1and1.com/xml/static/HostingProfFeatures)[/glow] :D

This looks interesting, as long as you're not obliged to pay once the three years are done.

Setup e-mail:
Dear Joey Twentyone,
Thank you for registering with 1&1 - the leading web hosting company
worldwide.
In this e-mail you will find all the details regarding 1&1 Internet's
4-step automated authentication process.
Please note: If you cannot simultaneously go online and talk on the
phone, then please finish reading this e-mail, complete step one, and
disconnect from the Internet.
This authentication process is intended to provide you with the highest
level of security; it is comprised of four steps described below.
*************
Step 1:
*************
Open the form by clicking on [address]
and enter a 10-digit phone number where our automated authentication
system will be able to reach you within the next 15 minutes.
Please note: Only one 1&1 Professional Package can be activated per
phone number.
***************
Step 2:
***************
Within the next half hour, you will receive a call from the
automated authentication system that will announce your 4-digit PIN.
Make sure to have a pen and paper available to write down your PIN. You
will need it to set up your free Professional Package.
If you do not catch the PIN the first time, press 1 and the system will
repeat the PIN (touchtone required).
***************
Step 3:
***************
After receiving this call, you may re-establish your Internet connection
(if applicable) and click on:
[address]
again. Please enter your PIN when prompted. This will unlock your
Professional Package and you will soon be able to use the numerous
features the product has to offer.
***************
Step 4:
***************
Please check your mailbox for another e-mail containing the information
to log on to your Professional Package configuration in the
Control Panel.
****************************
Start the authentication process by clicking on this link:
[address]
We hope you will enjoy using your free-for-three-years 1&1 Professional
Package to increase your professional and personal success.
Sincerely,
Your 1&1 Team

Personally, I don't think it's worth it for privacy reasons. I avoided giving out any personal information thus far by not giving out my real name nor my real street address but then in the e-mail they ask for a phone number for confirmational reasons so I think I'm just going to let this go...
-
10-digit phone number? Well, I'm guessing by its lack of questioning for international codes, it's US-only... :nervous:
-
1&1 are UK.
-
Not much better for an Aussie. :p
-
1&1 are European, not just UK. The company I work for rents out a dedicated server from their German branch (1und1).
And they are as big as they claim. I wouldn't worry about giving out personal information to them if they require it - they've proven themselves to be quite professional.
-
It may be a European based company, but the only location options are US or CANADA :(

Yeah, they don't offer the deal on any of their other regional sites.

Technically, they're all front-companies for...err....'schlund' is it?
Strange that they'd offer it to US peeps from the UK site instead of just cloning the UK one to an America-specific doman.
