Nog - "Its the Klingons sir, they're here."
Ship count: 157, thats ONE HUNDRED FIFTY SEVEN.
Minimum framerate (with AA) 6fps with max of 60 fps.
-
That's 157--at 6.1fps. Not spectacular. Good models though.
-
We all know FS2 has never handled "Battle of Endor" style uber-fights well - the ships alone are impressive. I don't see many practical missions using over 100 ships.
-
One can't expect spectacular frames rates with ten 15k polygons Galaxies. Seventeen 9k Akiras, etc... I'm just continuing a battle started in a previous thread. With 48 extra ships.
Just fun recreating war scene.

"Fight"? If that's a fight, where are the shots? ;)
-
They're not BeamFreeAll. If they were, that'd be .00061fps. ;)
-
I thought Klingons were good guys now ?
And, that Fed. ship on the left, with it's engine pod directley above that TNG stylee ship, what class is that ? Looks pretty funky.
-
well at least guys is interesting the fact that he got 154 high poly ships in game at same time
-
Not too shabby considering the poly count for some of those models.
From a FS2 point of view, it's excellent news, since the absolute maximum number of capships I would consider in a mission is 15, and even then, I would think I was overdoing it by a fair bit, so it looks like HT&L really has freed us to do those ships we only dreamed of ;)
-
I'm not sure, but I think that the "true" battle of endor involved a far lower number of caps (but obviously there were dozens if not hundreds of fighters)
-

you never watched DS9 did you?
the klingons and (as hard as it is to beleve) the romulans, along with the federation all allied aganst the nazi like dominion wich concered/allied themselvs with the Cardasians and then later added the Breen to the allies both fought a world war 2 like battle royal, I beleve that line was from when the Klingons first joined the federation against the Dominion
also that ship is the Defiant, the coolest ship in the trek universe, and the only fed ship with a cloaking device (borrowed from the Romulans, not related to the later alliance with them)
-
Actually, as I recall, the Defiant is NOT the only Fed ship with a cloaking device. Its the only Fed ship with a LEGAL cloaking device.
-
The DS9 episode is called "Sacrifice of Angels" It is the first time "Foundation Imaging", who were the original CGI pioneers of Babylon 5's effects, did a massive war scene in Star Trek. I believe the battle consisted of 1200 Dominion/Cardasian ships (bad guys) vs 600 Federations. Federation was getting clobbered when the Klingons unexpectedly came to their aid concluding the most dramatic war sequence Trek has ever produced.
I doubt I can get that many ships in game, but who knows. Maybe in a year or so....
Mad kudos to SCP's skillz!
I actually tried it with beams freed and the frame rate bottomed at 6 fps with AA (recommended for screen caps I was told). I had to turn it off to get the screen shots I wanted which are based on actual shots used in the episode.
The Jemhadar, Defiants, and Bird of Preys were set as fighter classes, so they wouldn't sit still without being ordered to "play dead". I would have to retable them as "cruisers" in order for them to stay still for the camera angles I needed and fire at the same time.
-
yeah, there was the pegasus with it's ubber cloak that endded it up halfway in an asteroid, run by the guy who didn't like that treaty, and I beleve the intrepid (or something, it was in voyager so my memory on it is fuzzy)
-
There's been lots more than that, if you read the books too. There's an ep of TNG where they talk about the Pegasus being the first with a Phase Cloaking device. There's also a couple of eps where they mention that the Feds have cloaking devices at SFHQ for study, that occasonially get put into ships by Bureau whatever the damned number is.
-
actually yes there was the pegusus but they found it in an astroid not in voyager but in TNG. the i think it was admiral was trying to recover the cloak
-
Bob was saying the Intrepid was in Voyager, NOT in TNG. The Pegasus was in TNG.
-
you mean the USS Morgan (yeah i believe that's the name) it was in an episode of DS9. i think it's the sister ship of the USS Voyager.
-
Speaking of cloaks, I think it'd be a cool promo shot if someone could get these models working in OGL and get shots of the Klingon ships and the Defiant cloaking. As far as other fleet engagements are concerend, how about that engagement/slaughter near the Founders former homeworld, when the Obsidian Order and the Tal'Shiar tried to wipe them out. The engagment in total included Cardassian Keldon class cruisers, Romulan Warbirds (exact class, unknown), Jem'Hadar attack ships, the Defiant of course, and a runabout. Now, the runabout is not absolutely neccessary, and we could sub the Galor for the Keldon, then all we realy need is the Romulan warbird. Might be cool.

If I see you mention Dildos once more, I'm banning you. I don't even care if you've just find out what they are - enough is enough for the time being.

it's a shame that we never saw those episodes in italy:/

DS9 had too much of that bloody doctor flappin' over quasi female aliens and Commander blokeys namby pamby son. (Jake?)
DS9 would be dull for 80% of the time then suddenly a cool battle would spring up and it would be great.
IMO.

Thunder: It's theme week. Stay tuned next month, when it's "I **** myself and can't get up".
Ya know, as an admin one would think you'd try and keep track of these things.
Other: Those brown things are Klingon? I think not. Klingons fly the funky green thingies that can cloak, and any arguments otherwise are heresy.
They are pretty nice, though.
-
hey it's like Where's Wally/Waldo. Is there an Aeolus hidden in there somewhere ?
-
klingons are in the second (all klingons) and third (the one real close) pics
the brown things are Cardasian

Who cares if the shots aren't good. The sight of many, many ST ships shooting at each other is going to be ub3r, to say the least :D

Never watched DS9 here....darn channels never showed it- only VOY (which is still good) and TNG :hopping:

DS9 is an order of magnatude better than all other trek combined, well at least it is after the first two or three seasons,
you must, I repete _must_ download as much of it as you can

And put it where...have only ~1.4 GB left on this 6GB hardrive :nervous:
I'd rather see it on TV than my computer- its meant to be seen there rather than here. That, and i do NOT rip-off Trek like any other music or video, no matter how tempting it is.
-
but you don't have any other way to get it
-
You know, they've got the whole DS9 series out on DVD now. Now costwise, downloading is probably better, but there is that whole coolness in having legit, original copies of all of the eps. I in fact, am working on getting the series myself by taping it off TV, but that's kind of a hobby. My favorite episode was the season 4 2h premiere when Worf joins the cast. Its almost like a movie compared to the rest of the series. I managed to find it in an original VHS copy, with all the bits that were cut out so it could be made into 2 eps for syndication. They've got to make time for "Last time on DS9" as well as a second set of intro and ending credits.

Nobody, but be honest - is all this talk of dildos really necessary? I don't think so... just trying to cut back on the spam around here.
Hm, I wonder if there's a filter to reset someones post count every time they swear or mention certain words...

you know it would be funny to go through the dictionary and pic words at random that get someone banned for a week for saying, every couple of months a new one would be found when someone says the banned word 'tomato', I would be immune to this however (given I couldn't spell to save my life)

I find it ironic in the extreme that the only misspelled word in that whole post is "pic" instead of "pick", and that, I'm sure, is simply due to shortening and not lack of knowledge of how to spell it. :D
-
that'll be the last post that hapens in
anyway, I remembered another fed ship that can cloak, that one ship full of recrutes that was stuck behind enemy lines, and they went to take out that dominion ubbership, and got there asses handed to them
-
That would be the Valiant, but you are incorrect. That ship, while it was a Defiant class, did not mount a cloak. In fact, we also don't know if the replacement Defiant that DS9 got after the original was destroyed, had a cloak. I'd bet on no, but considering their alliance with the Romulans at that point, you never know. I'd personally like to hear that the new alliance rescinded the ban on Feds developping cloaks, so they could haul the Phase-cloak tested originally on the U.S.S. Pegasus, which was probably lying quietly in some lab, or being worked on by Section 31, back into service to be "field tested" by the new Defiant. Now that'd be cool!!

Are their any current solutions with applying a cloak or movable parts (Bird of Prey wings or Voyager Nacelles) on these models? I'm aware of cloak difficulties, but I read that a month ago. Any change? I'm slowly getting the hang of Fred, is there any sexp's that could do either yet?
-
IIRC it works only on OGL, but not sure

Cloaking
Cloaking is currently only available under OGL as previously stated, and only functions by means of cheats, so no sexps to do it. Its probably on the list that coders will try to make D3D-capable and mission controlable once 3.6 is out the door. We'd need not only sexps, but new HUD art to include it as part of the ETS, rules for its energy consumption, an extra subsystem for the list, a box in FRED to allow or disallow a ship from using the cloak. This is probably best implimented only on the player ship, since the AI won't know how to use it, and coders hate altering or creating AI... not that I hold it against them. All in all, with the exception of the player ship, cloaking will have to be exclusively controlled through scripting. Finally, we'll also need an addition to the control section so a cloaking key can be mapped into use.
Moving Parts
While this is possible, it is somewhat impracticle. Right now, its only supported under rotating subsystems. You'd have to make each wing as a separate rotating segment, but which is missing the other side. I know that rotating subsystems don't have to be ballanced, because you can knock out one of the rotating blades of a Shivan Comm. node and the other end of it will continue rotating. The only problem with that is that the subsystem will attempt to continue rotating through the rest of the hull, rather that stopping at the raised, lowered, or mid position as the case may require. Now, there are sexps that tell a subsystem to start rotating or stop rotating, so you'd have to use a series of sexps to tell the segment to start moving, and then stop moving when it gets to the desired position, which would require experimentation to know how many seconds to leave between each action. What we need to complete this is a sexp to tell a rotating subsystem to reverse its rotation, which may not be possible... I don't know what the rules are. The only light at the end of the tunnel to make this an automated feature, is Fe2... if it actually gets done.

OMG!!!
Galaxy, Akira nad Vor'Cha in one pic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
Add a Romulan Warbirs and a Galaxy-X and I will be in heaven!
EDIT: For those who don't know - THIS is the Galaxy-X!
-
Warbirds were not in this battle "Sacrifice of angels". Galaxy-x is not even in this timeframe. I REALLY REALLY want to kill the person who made the schematics Pneumonic81 followed for his Galaxy and Galaxy-X. I finally found the schematics he followed and it is DEAD WRONG. I've watched TNG enough to spot a horrendous model.
Don't get me wrong, Pneumonic did an excellent job modeling those ships. Its his source material that I question, NO, HATE. I'm pretty sure getting blueprints is not a problem, but finding the RIGHT one is a different story considering the number of them out there on the web. Hell, even the Galaxy-X added components are OFF a bit.
I will be in the process of modelling my own, based on Scotchy's more accurate Galaxy. I'm trying to find some canon blueprints for the Galaxy-X right now. Once I get the bulk of the Federation fleet out of the way, I'll work on their future ships. Right now all my effort is getting some fighter classes in the fleet. The Runabout is my current project.
-
I always thought that the Galaxy-X specific textures were rather ugly. And someone come up with a better name before it's released.....
-
was Galaxy x the ship form the last TNG, where captain blokey ended in some time paradox, um, affair ?
-
Yeah, "All Good Things". Picard got chucked around through time, Q shows up and there's some Uber-neat space combat near the end as well.
-
Heh. I'm guessing in the grand scene of things, not to mention the movies, Pickard's Galaxy x was quietly dropped in favour of the Soverign (?).
-
That was a big mistake. If I remember the last episode corectly, it took out a Klingon Negh'Var with one hit from the Phaser Cannon (the first shot tore trough the shields and the ship...the second two were not needed)
C2 from BCfiles has the best looking Galaxy-X model out there.
Allso, you can find the blueprints at www.staryards.com

Well when the Enterprise-D crashed into Viridian 3 in Generations that theory went pretty much out of the window...
-
Well...it's still not completely out of the question...
The federation stil has Galaxy Class ships that will need re-fitting in the future...and the Galaxy-X refit was so radical, that it is in fact a new class (something like the Klingon D-7 cruiser and the new class...)
Anyway, you CAN'T make the ship cannon, or the gameplay will suffer.
Who would want to pilot a ship that can blast a Borg Cube with ease...you'll have to de-grade that forward gun...But increase it's power output then
-
The front gun is massively overpowered - it was clearly for that climax scene and that alone... hard to say how it would fare against a cube (there'll always be technobabble to explain why it won't work or whatever). But the idea behind the ship was nice - Certainly a "cheap fix" upgrade for the Galaxy class line of ships.
-
And on the subject of galaxy class...
-
The Gal X refits probably WILL happen in the future, but they might look differentand have differnt weapons cause of a certain event called VOYAGER ENDGAME he he..
Thanks to Admiral Janeway some new weapon and armor systems will revolutionize ships from now on. This will affect future ship design and construction.
As the Soverign is now the flasgship don't be surprised to someday see the sov-X or even Sov-XX (I have that model it's overkill!)
-
The "Cheap Fix" solution to the Galaxy-X doesn't quite hold up either... from All Good Things we can tell that the Galaxy class was retired and only the Enterprise was saved for retrofit. And there were only ever a handful of Galaxy-class ships built in the first place, most of which were destroyed in DS9. As for Voyager, I fully expect it to be dropped from the equation as far as ST future tech goes, it was just too far-fetched. The least they can do is drop the crap from Endgame.
In truth though, I don't expect a new series or movie to come in and introduce any new canon for future ships. With the trend of Enterprise and the NextGen crew not doing any new movies, I don't know if Paramount will keep trying to keep the series alive.
-
If you missed it in Hard Light go here and watch the CONTINUING voyages of the 1701 Enterprise (IMHO it's better than Enterprise lol!) Plus support a worthy cause (optional)
http://www.5yearmission.com
They've inspired me to "Never Give up, Never Surrender!" Yeah wrong show but you know what I mean!
BTW before you are quick to take them down remember THEY ARE FANS! Like if we got together and made a FS2 movie. so be kind...
-
[q] a handful of Galaxy-class ships built in the first place, most of which were destroyed in DS9[/q]
Look at all the season 6/7 Dominion war battles in DS9. There are quite a few Galaxy and a lot survive. Also, they seem to be faster and more powerful than the 1701-D so its fair to conclude they've been upgraded (beyond the Generations bridge module upgrade)

The black chick in the red uniform looks reasonably hot. Otherwise sorry, I'm not impressed.

I doubt Paramount will give up their Trek audience. Its obvious their writers got lazy and went backwards for their next series. The direction Trek should have taken is inter-galactic, since they covered all quadrants, show-wise. With this new technology, I have no doubt that people would have hated a revisit of Voyager's trail of chaos in the delta quadrant or Odo's search for his mommy and daddy trails in the Gamma. Come to think of it, why didn't Voyager just head to the Gamma quadrant for a short cut back home? Silly hag man-lady captain.
ANYWAYZ, its time Trek broke out the TRANSWARP drive promised in Star Trek III. I think thats the next logical step, with complete and intentional disregard for Voyager's many UBER technological and transportational run ins (transwarp conduits, quantum slipstream, and Q + blondy elf girls' telekenesis). Take that technology, and start a "Trek" beyond the galactic rim.
Another possibility I had a thought of was a show based on the future dominance and corruption of the Federation, with much thanks to Section31. Every empire falls according to history, why not the federation. The central characters could pull off a maquis-like resistance to the now bloated federation.
Oh well, I guess my ideas are just that and will stay only in my head. BACK to converting more starships.
-
What about theA ndromeda Galaxy? Isn't that the closest one? However the Andromedans fled it for some reason (TOS)... They can kick Starfleet's butt so why would we go there IF the reason was a war?
-
Mr. Vyper, I think you are missing some texture files. The phaser banks on your Galaxy are missing. Either you removed them or the missing textures are rendering them invisible.
-
Trek is slowly bleeding to death......
Fortunately, projects like this tranfuse the blood quickly enough to keep it alive ;)
A new trek series really needs something new. The reason why DS9 was good because it gave in many new concepts and diversity, not to mention managed to keep that "Boldly Go where no-one has gone before" Flavour without the "we're going but we're too lost and too far as well!!" Flavour of Voyager.
Hmm.....maybe a series based on pirates that travel all over the Alpha (and maybe Beta or gamma) quadrants that meet all the other races would work better :/
-
I'm interested to know how you got the warp effects on the Galaxy X?
-
it's called photoshop
and the reason DS9 was so good was simply becase it had a story, charicters, and above all else, a huge ass ****ing interquadrant maga battle (based on World War 2, I always liked that)
-
That effect is from BridgeCommander, which is the engine that picture was captured in. It would be nice to have streak effects added to the next build of FSO. Someone make that request please, it would give ships a nice effect for speed when afterburners are hit.
-
how is it done?
if I knew how to do it I might be able to recreate it
-
Isn't motion blur something Directx-8 introduced into games, like Giants Citizen Kabuto and the current Need For Speed underground? I don't know anything about graphics coding, but I was under the impression that the Direct-X had something to do with some kind hardware assisted effect like motion blur.
-
The Klingon ships that the Enterprise fights in All Good Things.... were not Negh'vars. They were a vastly more powerful class called Voodreih (IIRC).
-

Actually the reason that DS9 was good was because basically it copied Babylon 5 which was even better.

They've buggered that up in the latest update so I'm not sure how it works.
Motion blur is probably a dx cap of some sort.

Copy the screen area, fuzzy the pixels (downscale, rescale) and then stretch it in the inverse direction to movement?
Or just store xx seconds of previous rendering (for lack of a better movement) and fade in, increasing opacity the closer it gets to the present frame time?

The Galaxy-class was upgreaded during the Dominion Wars...the Venture re-fit I belive it was called.
AN0N - I didn't know that. That means that the Galaxy-X is even more powerfull than I tought.
TO ALL- I hate Voyager. It's a slap in the face of ST. The only thing I liked about DS9 were the big battles.
