Concept art pics, I don't think they do the series justice (the characters that is).
-
Seen them already.
What throws me off are the darn names. Bastards, can't they convert anything w/o americanizing it? I knew they would do that, those tards.
I mean, kate Rose, wtf? Is a name like Asuka so shocking for them little 'ricans?
Bloody idiots.
And WETA is disapointing me: what with the Eva01/Godzilla cross? :doubt:
-
yeah, that's stupid, the only people who are going to watch this are people who watched the origonal serese/movie, and there all going to be put off majorly by this.
(wonder if they'll try to answer and/or recreate those mind **** endings)
-
budget is huge, so I guess they aim for the general audience. still hope it'll be somewhat good.

The name change and stuff is to widden the audience, so: no.
In the same order of idea, you can bet the angels are gonna become aliens of some sort.
On a side note, it still doesn't have a director, so I hope it's gonna die.
-
You never know, I'm optimistic that they'll get someone to do a decent job for it - it has potential to be a really deep film.
-
Those concept pics looked awsome. I don't know what you guys are on about. The names I thought did put me off, but the drawings of the eva's, esp Eva-01 in that liquid filled chamber looked amazing.
-
I thought the Angels were aliens?
-
Don't mess with the legend.
I liked Evangelion (alltough only the first 15 or so episode... the ending sucked big time!)
I would personally kill the peron that would thry to make LOTR4 or VoE2 (wel..perhaps not the second one..that depends...but the first one DEFINATELY!)

No they're not.
But I meant the name anyway.
-
So what the hell are they?
-
uh, angels...

Mmh, don't quite remember to be honest. If we really knew what Adam is, that would be easier to tell but, basically, believe it or not, angels are humans.
-
They're the "other" humans. Humans were made like Adam, Angels were made like Lilith. Something like that anyway.
-
yeah, just watch the last few eppisodes and the movie again, it couldn't be clearer...
well actualy maybe it could, just a little...
-
I don't like how they made Unit 01 look like a slavering, hunch-backed beast. It's supposed to kind of be a surprise when we find out that the Eva's are actually organic inside.
-
Hmm, no, you see unit01's head in the second episode already ;)
-
it's actualy one of the better shots of it in the entier serese
-
Venom, the reason they're using American names is cause it's gonna be released in America, and many Americans are too "patriotic" or simply have trouble memorizing Japanese names (which can be quite hard at times). Plus, American names and giant robot fighting lends for a bigger audience.
EDIT: It reminds me of the situation with the Battlestar: Galactica "remake"
-
yeah, like Ray is easier to memorize than Rei :p
-
It's harder to spell :p
-
No, it's not. Ayanami(sp?) is hard to spell. If they were going to rename Asuka, why not make something vaguely german? IIRC, she grew up in Germany.
-
Umm...the original anime didn't name her something vaugely German either :p
They all were Japanese or Japanese-sounding names :D
-
First: I'm with Venom. I hope it doesn't get made.
Second: Morons. this is a live action flick. Those drawings of the characters are for the costumes, not the characters. The actors haven't cast, so the drawings are just place holders.
Third: If you saw anything more than oh, the first three eps of Evangelion, its made very clear that the Evas are at least partially organic. Its not even a surprise.
I'll leave the anti-Evangelion ranting off this post. I will say that I liked the concept art, like the giant gun rack.

Well yeah, she has an english name, not a german name :doubt:
Then again, the japanese have the bad habit of using foreign words coz they sound cool, but have absolutly no knowledge on the grammar ( the cookies goes to french, these days, you often see french in animes, but, unlike with english, japanese are very bad with french, which leads to pretty funny stuff like the text in the opening of Saikano or the latest anime from... herm... some unknown studio, with a french title (woot :p ) " Le portrait de petit cossette" (hargh) ).
Gotta admit Soryu Langley doesn't sound very german :p
-
well, love it or loathe it, it should be interesting to see how it goes..
(in the box office) after all, it's the final product that counts, don't it?..
-
yep. I also quite recently heard something about james cameron doing a battle angel alita movie, which also could be interesting, as teh gunnm/battle angel alita manga is really really good. the ova wasn't so bad either.
-
bah, I've heard about cameron as the director for Eva, too. You can hear about anything if you don't pay attention, on the net :p

The picture of little.... something?
(never was any good with French)

Personally, I'm all for what they're doing. With Japanese animation and brilliant concepts, and America's movie muscle, the two could be a very good partnership :)
I doubt this will be the last anime-to-screen port we'll ever see ;)

Cosette ( french name, you know, like in the book by Victor Hugo? don't know the english name, in french, it's "Les Misérables" ).
Gotta admit it looks cool, tho. Very gothic.
There, a pic:

Pb is that AMerica uses its muscles as brains too.

Ah, right. Should have known/guessed that :)
Book is known as "Les Misérables" in English, too BTW.

Oh, cool. WHile I'm at it, I have no idea what the story is, but it's supposed to be written there:
Someone cares to translate it for me? Pwetty pwease? Kamikaze?
-
Well I was looking about day ago something to this related
and I did find this site
http://eva.trivialbeing.net/index.php
-
I thought 'Kate' was a German name?
-
what would be good with this movie is if shinji dies in twenty terrible ways in the first five minutes.

It translates to something like this:
Nagatoshi Kurahashi, an art student, works part time at the antique store "Kourandou" and fantasizes about a fair-haired (Note: literally, it's "blonde" or "gold haired" but the former is boring and the latter is nonsense), blue-eyed girl depicted in an old piece of cut glass, enjoying secret meetings (Note: One might interpret this as "dates") with the otherworldy fantasm of a girl. However that was the beggining of a horrific tale of the two fated people bound by the grip of the "cursed container." (Note: "container" is a horribly boring word to use, but I can't think of any other replacement for "kibutsu". One could use "bottle" too, but that seems way off)

Isn't her full name supposed to be Asuka Soryu Langley Zeppelin? Zeppelin being her father's name, a very common one I might add
-
You got the name right just add Aska in front of it though... A lng name makes her feel superior...
Aska Asuka Soryu Langley Zeppelin (AKA) *****!
-
She's not a *****, she just suffers from the typical german-engineered over-inflated ego.
-
and her mom killing herself in front of her, and trying to kill her too, if I remember
-
....not to mention the fact that her father remarrying was a key factor in her mother's madness - along with an Eva experiment that virtually sucked her sould out of her.
It's same as with Shinji's mother except it happened later and the woman survived - so unlike Shinji Asuka had to experience the mental death of her mother first hand.
-
Thanks, kamikaze :)
Oh, now I can count in Japanese ( learnt yesterday in the subway, since I have a long way between home and job :D )
for exemple, Flaser postcount is kyû-hyaku-jû-yon ( 914 ). Well I hope, or else I have to start all over again :p

speaking of anime shows turned into Live Action. I've heard a rumour that Joe Menosky want's to make a Witch Hunter Robin Live Action

hmm... I hope it turns out more like the GTO live action than the sailor moon live action, then.
hmm... this makes me feel like watching GTO drama again... almost.
-
well if they make it and try to keep the concept intact then the LA series might even work out...
-
that's just a rumour, you know, these days, all the successful animes in the states are claimed to be due live soon. And half of them are claimed to being done by Cameron :p
Next one will be Scrapped Princess by Cameron, you'll see :p

nah, tarantino'll be doing that one.
but this then? www.battleangelalita.com
-
Mmh... the fact they own the website name is... yeah... Bah, Gunnm should suffer less from a localisation than Eva. I've seen a cool CGI sequence of motorball ( on the gunnm DVD edition I think it was ), was well done.
