Title: Aren't we a bit overdue for a new build?
Post by: Starks on January 19, 2004, 11:19:34 pm
It's been over a month... A little update would be nice... Maybe a new VP or SCP build.

In short, No.

In previous months, since speed picked up in the SCP, there has been a new build every week or so and each coder had two or three builds specificly made to test one feature and nothing else.  It is easy to see how someone would fall behind, that is unless you are an uber-SCP-nut.  Such is my (and im willing to bet others) case, so the team took a break after making one 'best of' build.  I see this as a way to let everyone catch up and really experience what the SCP has to offer.

They're in a code Freeze bugfixing for 3.6, which will be the next major, and hopefully the closest to bugfree, release. Until then, patience young padawan :)

Well, considering I've only made one mission and one model since I joined HLP... I don't even know the basics of C programming.

Can't we at least get a new (unofficial) release with all the bug fixes you've made so far?

There have not been any significant changes since the last build. Actually, I think only one or two bugfixes have been committed. Hence, we're not going to release a build just to get the same bug reports as we did last round.

Just make a stable build at last. Spend more time testing it.
The only stable build I have ever seen was the build which was only working with horses all around.

:D :D :D

We're trying, but we also need a couple of dedicated testers who would put in some real hours doing it. Right now we're relying on the community to catch most of the bugs, and it's difficult because the bug reports are generally very vague and incomplete.

Do you mean bugzilla? I got scared away by 'bug numbers' and 'bug type' and complicated things like that. Otherwise the bug I wanted to report did not belong to any of the cathegories which were mentioned. So I gave up using it.

Bugzilla has been retired in favor of Mantis, which was announced a few weeks ago.  (See the stickied thread.) Mantis is much more user-friendly.

Tis indeed. Though maybe it needs fields for system specs - or are we meant to be typing out our specs when we report those nasty bugsies?

you can add your specs in your profile, so a coder can view them for each bug you report, without you retyping each time.  IIRC, AFAIK.

LLivingLarge is right! Where the hell is our new build!? I've been waiting like a mad dog for this to replace the current "joke" of a build. Hell, this build is so buggy and worthless, "Pong" is more stable. I want the new build, tomorrow by 3 PM, delivered to my doorstep by a sexy blond swedish swimsuit model. And while you're at it, have a juicy steak and ribs with a bottle of blue label Johnny Walker. (-end obvious sarcasm)

::splashes LLivingLarge with a bucket of cold water:: =)

Let the SCP dudes do what they do best. Patience is a virtue. If you want something to do in the mean time the thread http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,19985.0.html has enough previews to water your mouth.

I don't know about you people, but I hate cockroaches. Take all the time you need SCP, KILL those bugs and keep up the excellent work

I've actually yet to bump into any major bugs and the 12/05 build has been quite stable with me and my Trek armada. The screenshots I've been posting up lately should prove my point.

HOLY SMOKE! New build released!? OK,thats the last time I make a post without reading the ENTIRE thread!!!

::dries off LLivingLarge::

Kool!! Just finished downloading... hey!!! Wheres the blonde Swedish model?

I must be stupid, because I can't find this build anyplace...

It took me a while to find it too; Goober seems to have updated the link in redmenace's post in the latest versions thread.

Was that FRED2 bug with the hull repair cap fixed? I seem to be still getting that.

The 12_05_2003 was indeed a solid version that worked quite reliably. The only problem was that beam shield depletion thing, which is a big issue, but I only noticed it yesterday so that would still be in there. I wish I had spotted that one earlier; I happened to be testing missions that either had no enemy capital ships or had them but with swarms of fighters nearby, so it seemed like all the other weapons were what kept taking down my shields. :p

I don't really make any money of my own yet, but at least I can help by reporting bugs. :D

It's funny 'cos it's true. :)

In additional answer to overdueness of new build: no, we're not. ;)

That only wanted to be a quip with the two meanings of the word : 'stable'. :)
