Title: Got problem with HTL and Light
Post by: gevatter Lars on January 20, 2004, 08:51:00 am
I have got a strange problem with HTL...everytime I play with HTL the game starts normal and everything is smooth...but then all objects become more and more bright and the game becomes very very slow.
When I shot near an object the scene changes back to normal, but only for a short time..then it starts again.

Here are some pics

What can be the problem...could it be the models or is it the code that produces that effect?

Yes, I'd say try that, although I'm sure Bob's and my lighting code went in far before that, IIRC.

Use a newer build, I used to have this problem too.  The code wizards fixed it.

I agree... I've never seen a 12/15/2003 build before.  I've only seen 12/05/2003.

Later!

To post pics you could use this:
http://www.fattonys.com/images/

after the upload use the url shown there and replace the FILENAME with the name of the file you have uploaded and place the entire thing into the (// ) tags.

Something like this should be visible without spaces in the tags->

Well if there are some other people with the same problem then it seams that the scp team should work on that problem first...cause it is a quite troubleing problem.

Sounds like the number of lights is not getting set back to zero. Does this happen in OGL or D3D or both?

only in D3D, but I have a strange bug with OGL, ships will disappear and then reappear. I got pictures if you want.:)

Well I have tried different settings in the Luncher...now I have a real odd thing....

When I turn off the effect (nospec, noglow, no htl, etc) I have got wonderfull specmaps, glows and all these nice htl effects.
New problem is

a) it is slow like hell (when more then a few fighters are in the pic)
b) its crashing at randome, but sometimes it runs without problems

and all I have done was turning everything on that can be turned on in the luncher (even if it where Devtools) then started the game...waited till it crashed.
Turned off everything and started the game again.

Beside that I have got another thing that bothered me that much, but  I have got a GR/GB for every word in the menu...I have got no problem with that, but it looks strange.

I am using D3D and with OGL I got the problem that the ships engine trails and the ship itself are going different ways...means if the ships turns left the trails go right and after a short time both dissapear.

It will be slow because htl is off

Hm, how comes that older versions (i.e. unofficial 3.5.3) are very fast
even if they are 10 or more capships (no beams)  in a battle and
several fighters ? I still have around 30-40 fps, when using the old
*.exe, but turning off HT&L in the new versions, the game becomes a
dia-show (not to mention, that it will crash shortly after start). Could
this be a problem with the starfield-code ?( Can this be turned off also ?)

(If it not were for those cool engine-trails, I would not even change
to a new *.exe, cause I don't like the new light-effects at all, but
that is only my personal feeling :)  ).

Besides that, I haven't noticed the problem yet, that you mentioned
here, but It seems that sometimes my targeting-crosshair is not
visible, when the targeted objects is a few thousend klicks away.

BTW, Lars, I guess that's why your jumpnode in the mission above
is not shown either.
